Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Trying to sort a funeral and upset our Nan who was just trying to sort a venue. No need for it. Avoid at all costs, plenty of nicer friendlier places. Will be telling everyone to avoid! That Dan is one horrible human.

We had our wedding here in Sept 2019 and it was the most perfect day!! I've read a few bad reviews on here and i cant see that we are talking about the same venue! All our guests said what an amazing wedding and party we had! No problems at all. Daniel and his team were always there whenever we needed them. We have since been back for our anniversary and enjoyed every minute. If you are getting married, please come and check it out. Its truly a beautiful place :-)

Came to stay overnight to attend a wedding. Room of an acceptable standard and the occasion was a success as we were a large happy group of friends and family. The MAJOR problem being the owner of the establishment, a gentleman named Daniel. A person more unsuited to running a hospitality business I cannot imagine. Awkward, cantankerous, making unfounded accusations against various members of our party and totally unsuitable to running a wedding venue. You have been warned.

Hotel signage is either nonexistent or confusing and there is no reception area. We were shown to a garden room in the annexe which was very tired looking, walls poorly painted, furniture was basic and lacked character. The only opening to the outside was the door which meant, because we could not leave it open, the room became extremely stuffy overnight. The wall heater in the room was not working and had been replaced by a heavy freestanding one that had to be dragged across the room to be plugged in. The heated towel rail and extractor fan in the bathroom were also not working which meant our towels remained damp. The noise from the showers being used in the neighbouring room was terrible, as if there is no soundproofing at all between rooms. Returning back to the hotel on our third day, the refreshments had not been topped up, the bed had not been properly made and no cleaning had been done that we could see. At breakfast, we found on more than one occasion the cutlery was dirty. We expected more from a four star country house / boutique hotel. These problems had such a cumulative effect that we decided to cut short our stay by a day and informed staff present at the time of our issues. We emailed the manager, Daniel Hannan twice but received no response.

Room Tip: The garden rooms (which are all you can book on Booking.com) are not up to a four star standard....

Just returned from a weekend at this place. It was not a pleasant experience for us. No signs to show you where to go to reception. Girl who let us in very unfriendly. Room 201 was awful bed so low you struggle to get out, hot tap only a trickle of water, had to boil a kettle to have a shave. Toilet wouldn’t flush most of the time. No white bread for toast is the morning plus had to scrape the black of as it was burnt, asked for some more butter to be given a couple of bits from a previous visitor as they had all crumbs on. This place is not worth the money, and I’m not a complainer just don’t want anyone else to experience this.

Please DO NOT insult my intelligence by claiming COVID! My wife and I booked 5 rooms between us on October 17th 2020 and requested 1 of the rooms for our stay in August 2021 to have wheelchair friendly access as their listing on Booking.com said they had them. We received a reply yesterday 18th April 2020 – 6 MONTHS ON, stating they have NO wheelchair friendly access rooms available. Dreadful service so all 5 rooms are now cancelled. No doubt the customer service management will start to try and argue with this review as they seem to do with ALL negative reviews. They should channel their energies into providing better customer service and the owners should start will recruiting better employees!

We’ve just had a lovely few days at this fantastic and interesting hotel - a beautiful house and grounds in a stunning location. We had a lovely spacious room with patio doors leading onto a beautiful courtyard. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was really comfortable. The food is amazing! very plentiful and beautifully cooked by Triin. There is a good choice and we were even encouraged to ask for whatever we wanted if not on the menu. Daniel and his staff go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. They are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It really was a great experience. Thank you.

We booked last minute to stay at Sturmer Hall, and we are SO glad we did! We had a beautiful room and courtyard, both Trin and Daniel were extremely welcoming, and we can’t thank them enough for all they did for us during our visit. We will be back, and we can’t wait! It’s a little piece of Heaven at Sturmer Hall 😍

We booked this hotel for my partners parents Christmas visit for next year through Expedia. The hotel rejected the booking as they were fully booked, which was not an issue as we could book with another hotel. We were quite surprised that we were subsequently charged the full price for the booking. Following contact with Expedia to request a refund, my partners father got a rude phone call from the management complaining that we had complained, which we had not done. I am disgusted at the poor handling of the booking as we as the unhelpful and the rude attitude of the management when we tried to rectify this.

Response from annerosie22, Guest Relations Manager at Sturmer Hall
Responded 6 Feb 2020
Dear Amber E, You are factually incorrect and you know that full well. The reality is you did NOT make a booking as you suggest. The name of the person making the booking you attempted to take over was not you personally, and the OTA you claimed to have made the booking with was not prepared to discuss the matter with you, (as you had no direct business with them). The matter could not therefore be dealt with by us, due to data protection regulations. Your threat to abuse us via social media was clear: You demanded we pay you money or you would seek to to damage us via social media. You have carried it out that threat, we can see that, but let it be known you did NOT pay us one penny. You have not lost one penny and your complaint is ill founded.
