Accommodation bedroom is quite small with a double bed with access on one side. Linen and towels provided were clean and good quality however the bathroom needs a little attention as does the bedroom which has a musty smell and a sky light ( which was on open) that has no blinds so room light very early. Lots of cobwebs high up Our biggest issue ( which spoilt our stay) we’re the selfish couple who decided to have a 4am party for two ! They played loud music over and over same song with their bed activities also unpleasant when you are kept awake The cork popping at 5 am what the icing on the cake for us Such a shame when the pub and food was so wonderful the night before and the owners are so lovely

Response from Emma Lewis, Owner at The Plume of Feathers
Responded 2 weeks ago
Hi Melanie, Apologies for the delay in responding - technical difficulties getting on here. It was so lovely to meet & host you both, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us except for your neighbours - I have since added two sets of ear-plugs for guests since your stay, too late for you I know but hopefully future guests will benefit. Thank you again for your lovely review & taking the time to write it. All the best, Emma & Gaz

Great room, lovely and warm in a beautiful village location. Room had everything we needed, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities. Bathroom was ok, warm shower with toiletries provided, a tad dated, but it worked and was warm, so no complaints.

Stayed for less than one night. Room was tiny, and freezing. Heating wasn’t working correctly and a bucket was placed for any water dripping from a sky light. Avoid at all costs, you would be warmer and more comfortable sleeping in your car.

On arrival the pub we learned was not serving food which was a shame as guests staying there and we only wanted a sandwich. Disappointingly we went down the road to the Hampshire Arms where the friendly staff there provided us with a lovely sandwich and pint of cider. The room was in a stable barn conversion and is not recommended for disabled people. There are steps inside to the level where the bed is positioned. The bathroom is small but has everything you need except the horrendous Triton electric shower (I hate these, why do they put these in rooms, you can get a better cat lick). There's also a secret door to the carpark in the bathroom which is for children, although adults can squeeze under too and is a quicker way to the car park. Very odd. The bathroom looks like it has seen better days and could do with some DIY. I was thinking of taking photos but couldn't be bothered. You know the normal thing, black mould in the tiling grout, and that dreadful plastic stuff that bends and you put around the shower tray to stop leaking but it looked awful. There's a skylight above the bed that is tiny but it lets a surprising amount of light into the room but that's it as far as windows are concerned. There were cobwebs over the window opening. The bed was not that comfortable, a cheap mattress that moves like a waterbed. Here again we booked with Booking.com and I think it's a disaster using them these days as you nearly always get the smallest room going and this was the case this time. The owner is supposed to be Neil Morrisey. Neil, you need to do some maintenance and look after your guests who are staying in the guest rooms because, really, you couldn't put yourself out to make us a sandwich after a very long drive. No bottled water in the room. No biscuits.

This has to be the worst accommodation that I have ever stayed in. Booked through Booking.com which does not describe the rooms in any detail or I certainly wouldn’t have booked. Payment was required up front and if I hadn’t paid would have walked away. I chose this place due to poor reviews of chain establishments in the area, ( at least you know what you’re getting) and availability ( and now I know why) We had been staying in an air B and B for a family wedding but needed to move nearer to Fleet for one night for my grandsons first birthday. This was so disappointing. The room is in a converted stable block but it looked like a garage from outside, sandwiched between the car park and beer garden/smoking area. From the photos, I thought I would be in the main building. The room was very very small, with a double bed up against the wall and headboard meaning one occupant had to vacate the bed from the bottom. The bed was quite firm. The room was clean but had many cobwebs in the vaulted ceiling to look at. There was one tiny skylight ( it had a blind) but this required standing on the headboard to reach it. It was the hottest day of the year unfortunately, and noise could be heard from the yard and singing ( I think football was on) Noise from? the cellar fan was on all night. We did not feel welcome, responses rather smug and sarcastic. There was no fan available ( there must have been other hot days/ nights over the years) and the person seemed to think this was amusing and smirked as he cheerfully told me they did not have one and walked away. No empathy here. I’m not keen on enclosed spaces and the room was stifling even with the velux open. It was not possible to have the door open due to customers outside. As a result no sleep and exhausted in the morning. I’m sure that purchasing some cheap fans would be a nice offering and maybe result in a more bearable experience. We ate our evening meal again very disappointed. Nothing wrong with food quality but it was extremely bland. I see from responses to other reviews that the landlord has a take or leave it attitude. It’s obviously a pub for the locals and if you’re not one of those you’re not welcome.

I used to live in the area and visited the pub from time to time and found it fine. So I thought I'd stay here when I had some local business. The rooms are in a converted stable block. They are very very small. The bed is hard and the ventilation a small skylight. This would have been tolerable but the entrance carpet was grubby, the shower mouldy, rot in the floor around it, and the hot water in the basin barely lukewarm. Noise from the beer garden is a potential problem too. Fortunately it was a cold evening I stayed. I wish I'd read the landlord's sarcastic response to other reviews before booking, suggesting they should have gone to a pricey hotel. For the information of other potential visitors, local budget hotels offer superior accommodation at half the price, and for an extra £20 you can stay are an upmarket hotel not far away. Unless the Plume have made big changes since I stayed, I'd advise those options.

Superb 16th century pub with a great spacious garden that has heaters for cold rainy days. Wonderful food choices and great beer on tap. Super friendly staff and accommodating especially during covid times.

Our small walking group of 2 couples had a lunch after our 2 hour walk. We were seated in an outside cabin with a heater for each table. The area had four well spaced tables. Food, beer and staff were very good and we had no complaints. Good value for money food, just what we needed after a walk in the cold weather

We have been for Sunday lunch the last 3 weekends, as we have just moved to the Village. I have to say the food and service is great, good fresh home cooked food, you would be hard pressed to find a better lunch in my opinion !!! Keep up the good work. Kim & Lois.

First impressions of the Pub- quirky, cute, friendly at first and looking forward to dining here:- however the food and service robbed me of this thought. The fillet steak was so fatty and what a waste at £18 a dish. I merely mentioned this to the waitress and her attitude was “nothing we can do about that”. I wasn’t expecting for a refund Just making the chef aware the Steak was extremely fatty and I had maybe four good mouthfuls. This Rude waitress made it apparent that my complaint was not wanted and made us feel on edge and wanting to leave almost immediately, however My husband and child wanted to finish their meals as it was Christmas Eve and we are holidaying here in Crondall. Deserts came out and were thrown in front of us, she really made it known we were no longer welcome here, my husband went on to finish his desert but hadn't even put his spoon down and the rude waitress leant in across him and scooped his plate away from him while having a full blown conversation with another waitress who just stood their most of the evening not doing a lot! I complained to a manager about the way in which I felt penalised for merely mentioning the quality of the service and food and her attitude was very much the same of that to the rude waitress. No interested still charged us full going rate. I explained I would not be leaving a good review she wasn’t bothered either way. So disappointing having booked this in advance and reading the good reviews we thought we were on to a winner. But unless your a local it’s very clicky and the service didn’t match to that of our expectations. No doubt the owner will be on here to defend this review and make some unnecessary comment to the steak I ordered ... but that sir doesn’t warrant your rude and inexperienced staff! What I will say is That we drove out and we went to the White Horse in Shere and my God what a difference what an amazing warm friendly superb pub I couldn’t recommend it enough.. such a shame I could say the same about the plume of feathers as I dislike leaving bad reviews, but after you took my money and shown no empathy towards a customer and their feelings shame on you!
