Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Chosen as near a seminar my husband went to. A warm welcome and atmosphere. Under new management and looks as though it has recently been refurbished. Beds really comfortable and rooms tasteful and well equipped. Our room (No 5) overlooked the road but was really quiet. Excellent continental breakfast including fresh fruit salad and granola and excellent coffee. Staff and management really friendly and accommodating.

The Crown Inn is situated in the heart of a very pretty area called Benson. It’s easy to get around without a car as the bus routes to Wallingford, Reading and Oxford are easily accessible within walking distance on flat pavements. A local shop and pharmacy is in the same road and a few metres up the road. The Inn itself was built in the 1800s and is very established in the area attracting its fair share of local patrons of its well stocked and spacious pub. The inn has a sense of history with slightly crooked walls and uneven floors - the cause of some amusement for me. The property is owned by the Hook Norton Brewery and on arrival in your room, you receive a complimentary bottle of beer on the first night along with the regular daily refreshes of water, bodum coffee, tea and biscuits. The rooms are comfortable, clean and somewhat quirky - each is decorated differently and comes equipped with TV, fan, hairdryer and small bathroom. Toiletries provided are liquid soap, shampoo and body lotion. One thing though, there is no bar fridge in the room - just ask the staff for milk if you need it for your room for the tea/coffee station. Breakfast is available as a Continental and/or Hot breakfast with a variety of choices including vegetarian. Very tasty with great personal service. Check what your room rate includes. The small but well executed menu for lunch and dinner is a popular choice for guests and patrons alike. The manager, Gus (he’s a Kiwi - but don’t hold it against him 😉!) is personable and social and the perfect host. He and his team go the great lengths to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one. We had some great chats about the World Cup rugby 😊 Give them a try next time you’re in the area and be surprised and delighted by the warmth and attention that you receive. If you’re looking for something authentic, good value for money and where you can return to again and again, this is your place!

A very average and overpriced Sunday lunch. Limited menu with only beef and pork available at below average quality. Third visit now and seemingly much more complacent since the refurbishment...when it was truly excellent.

Bedroom absolutely lovely. All new & very tastefully decorated. Clean & tidy, everything you could possibly need. Breakfast perfectly adequate, although the continental breakfast bar was somewhat lacking…! No plates, very little butter, no marmalade & just ordinary white loaf for the toast…! All these things were rectified after a quick word with the server, but when paying £138 for B&B, you’d expect this to be that bit better. The coffee however was just the BEST…! So much so that I had two…! All in all ….good, but expensive.

Booked a table for a Sunday, back in June as we were spending the Bank Holiday weekend in the area. When we arrived at the arranged time of 19:00 , we were told that the kitchen was closed for a deep clean. Amazingly we received a text and email the day before to confirm we would be there, which we replied to.

Stayed for 3 nights in August, 2nd stay so was looking forward to another nice stay. We were shocked that the bed was not made up all weekend over the 3 nights, can’t ever remember staying anywhere that they do not do this, UK or abroad. The bin in the bathroom was not emptied 1st 2 days. We made sure the sign “Please service our room” was hung on the outside of door on 2nd morning. When we arrived back late evening, the bed not made again. Towels changed after 2nd night but the used towels left in a pile on the floor of the bathroom! Now to breakfast, had to wait 40 minutes every morning for a full English breakfast. On the 3rd morning the manager was having a go at the chef in the kitchen for everyone to hear. The breakfast on the 3rd morning was awful - fried eggs were burnt and in a mess, sent them back and another egg out on top which was also more like scrambled eggs! Sausages were cheap and tasteless, no hash brown or tomato on one, beans all mashed up. My partner couldn’t eat it so sent it back again. Could only have a drop of orange juice as they ran out. Manager promised to send an email for a free night’s stay in the future as an apology but still waiting. All in all, a big disappointment
