Detailed Reviews
If you are looking to spend time away in beautiful and relaxing surroundings this is DEFINITELY the place to stay.
Alasdair and Deirdre are absolutely incredible hosts and Alasdair is incredibly knowlegable about the area and can easily provide suggestions for routes and recommendations about where to eat out. From the word go they were spot on with making us feel welcome and provided extensive directions as to how to get there (Satnavs will end up making you lost, so its best to follow the directions they provide)
We stayed in the Self Catering Lodge which more than met our needs. The bedrooms are tastefully furnished, have all the facilities you need and more and the bathrooms are incredible!.
The games room was also great for spending some time with the family and we certainly enjoyed playing billiards and darts.
The Grounds are absolutely spectacular and you are able to freely walk around them, there is also easy walking distance down to the "village" of Kilmuir, which has a very picturesque coastline and a "book swap" telephone box!.
We cannot speak any more highly of The Old Drynie and we would totally recommend this without hesitation to any families or couples who would love a break in beautiful peaceful surroundings. Thanks Alasdair and Deirdre for making our stay such an amazing one!

We have stayed in vacation rentals in many places, but this was a rare find. The accommodations were modern and very comfortable. The grounds around it are something you might expect to pay to enter: Immaculate lawns and gardens punctuated by towering pines framing a panoramic view of Moray Firth. But the property’s most valuable asset is it’s owners, Alasdair and Deirdre who live on the grounds. They were remarkable hosts; attentive, gracious and keen to share their deep knowledge and love of the Highlands. Each day Alasdair would happily brief us on how to get the most from our chosen activity. The Scottish tourism authority couldn’t ask for better ambassadors.

A group of six of us stayed here for three nights and the group asked me why we didn't stay longer. The property is set in a beautiful area and well worth the drive off the beaten path. We stayed in the Garden Annex and couldn't have been more comfortable. Guests have access to a game room with darts and billiards which was very fun. The hosts were very welcoming and gracious and offered very helpful and detailed advice on things to do and see in the area. Fantastic stay would highly recommend.

I cannot say enough lovely things about our experience at the Old Drynie House! The selection and quality of breakfast was outstanding. The house is beautiful yet comfortable. The property is quiet and well-kept with a lovely view of the firth. We stayed in the double room which was very comfortable, and the bathroom includes a large jetted tub for relaxing at the end of a long day of sightseeing. The room's amenities were so thoughtful! They included a flatiron, hair dryer, coffee maker, variety of snacks and a box of toiletries in case a guest had forgotten something. It was also very nice to have a fridge in the room! However, the thing that truly made our stay special were the owners, Diedre and Alasdair. They take the time to get to know their guests, and they have a passion to make sure that each guest gets the most out of their stay in the area. Alasdair made us a map showing us numerous points of interest around Loche Ness which we would have missed otherwise. Our stay in Inverness was made richer by the time and care of these two lovely people, and I can't recommend the Old Drynie House enough!

Hearty welcome on reception. Tea and cookies while sorting out our reservation.
Beautiful rooms with immaculate charm, linen and whatever wished for...
The best of Scottish breakfast, with beautiful dinnerware, starched linen table cloth - fit for a queen! Everything at Old Drynie speaks of elegance and class..
Alisdair discussed everydays itinerary with us, which we found very helpful.

Scotland has always been on our bucket list. We are so happy to have been there and anchor ourselves at the Drynie House. Alasdair and Deidre are wonderful hosts. They could not do enough making the stay so pleasant and homey. Accommodation, breakfast, and daily itineraries provided by Alasdair were fantastic. As first time visitors to such a beautiful country it could not be better than staying at the Drynie House. We highly recommend this beautiful home to stay, anchor yourselves and enjoy the adventures and experience of Scotland’s sceneries and abundant history.

I stayed here with my family for just one night unfortunately. I wouldve stayed for a lot more. There is so much to explore and its all so beautiful and you certainly cant do it all in just one night. This place has such a cozy homey feel and it just feels like home. Its a lot more than just a bed and breakfast, its a safe place, the house is filled with an overwhelming feeling of comfort and happiness and laughter i wouldnt be able to describe it all in this review. The food is delicious, the hosts are incredible the place is absolutely gorgeous and its just the best experience ever. It is so much more than just a bed and breakfast. Outside is a huge garden to explore and activities to do with your family and flowers and its just perfection. I cant reccomend this place enough.

Hello Deirdre and Alasdair,
My family and I had a wonderful time at your establishment. Of all our stays, Old Drynie house had the most welcoming experience. It felt cozy and like a home away from home. We wish we had the opportunity to spend more days (instead of back and forth), but will remember next time to plan more in advance.
I appreciated the time Alasdair spent helping recommend places to visit.

We were very excited, first of all, to stay at this accommodation to the the high rating in Trip Advisor.. On the day of our stay there, the owner notified us that there was no dinner and we had to get our own. As we were lost trying to find the house, we stopped at the North Kessock Hotel for dinner and as we asked for directions we stayed for dinner. we called the owner and he was quite upset that we didn't go directly to his house as he was going out to dinner with his wife. We were disappointed but accepted that we would stay and have dinner before going to their hotel. The owner wanted us to make a break during our dinner and pick up the keys and to interview us before we could stay at the House. We already ordered our dinner and politely refuse to go directly to the House. The owner got very upset and shouted, "Why can't you pick up the key now as it is only 15 minutes away by car!!" We wanted to ask him to bring the key, but he refused. We decided that this plan wouldn't work as we didn't want to stay with an owner who was very upset. So we just canceled our stay, the owner cursed and hung up. We only communicated by by voice messages and text. The waitress at the North Kessock Hotel was very understanding and helped us, and I must say that we had a very, very good dinner at this hotel.

The first time I visited this property was with my husband and a friend as we were traveling across Scotland from Aberdeen to Ullapool. We decided to stop in Inverness to have a look around and our friend really wanted to have the B&B experience. While I am usually much more of a boutique hotel type of girl, I thought it would be fun to check out something else. We were not disappointed!
Upon calling to make our reservation, Dierdre asked if we had any special requests, and I explained that my husband was on a big kick for smoked haddock for breakfast. She acquired our fish for breakfast and everyone started out our road trip in an amazing mood because it was cooked to perfection and we had a fantastic breakfast. We also really loved our room with big bathroom and comfortable bed. Dierdre was very accommodating and when we checked in, we stayed and talked with her and Alasdair in their living room like old friends. We got some great dinner tips for the evening and headed out for a fun night in Inverness, which was easy to reach from their house.
We enjoyed our experience so much, that when my mom visited Scotland last fall, I had to take her back to stay at the Old Dyrnie House. We traveled all around Scotland and she said that this was her favorite part of the trip. She loved the hospitality and talking with Alasdair for hours about golfing in the area. We had another fantastic breakfast and spent the rest of our trip driving about Scotland discussing when we were going to come back for a golf outing.
This B&B is fantastic, with the little extra taste of luxury that makes me want to keep returning. The setting, location, service, extra touches, fabulous breakfast and amazing hosts makes this an amazing place to stay and I highly recommend to anyone!
