We had four nights here for bird watching. We were delighted with our room as a superb view of the harbour. The flight over was "nail biting" but we trusted our pilot. I wished i hadn't eaten breakfast!! The food provided for dinner was average - no choice. All guests sat at one long table. It is a very friendly...

Fair Isle is such an unique island and the bird obs is clearly the best place to stay on the island (even if you're not there for bird watching or any other kind of ornithological activities), the staff is lovely, the rooms are really comfortable and the food is good and varied

Thank you for your review, we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We would always hope that those visitors who are not here specifically for the wildlife feel as welcome during their time on the isle as our birding guests.

I traveled to the observatory along with a group of fellow bird watchers. Getting to the Island can be a challenge with our flight being cancelled and we had to go via the Good Shepherd. The staff were friendly & helpful and kept me amply supplied by sick bags which were more than required! We were promptly met at the...

Thank you for your review, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay with us. As we have a wide range of guests with differing expectations across each season, it is very helpful to know how our guests see us, and which aspects of their stay they see as interesting, enjoyable, or perhaps needing some work.

My wife, teenage son and I booked for two nights but had to stay for three as the weather closed in and the plane couldn't land. This is quite a regular occurrence so be aware if making onward connections from Shetland. Our first impressions of the island were good but we had some misgivings about the way the accommodation is...

We are disappointed if any of our guests do not enjoy their stay on Fair Isle. The summer weather on Fair Isle is normally pleasant and dry, and it was unfortunate that your visit coincided with a spell of relatively poor weather. We do provide room keys to guests if they need them, but most of our guests do not...

We didn't stay at the observatory as we lodged elsewhere on Fair Isle but did use their facilities a couple of times. Lovely friendly atmosphere, it was great to be able to take a break from walking and have a sit down, chat to people, make a drink and eat our sandwiches. Bird watchers will find excellent, well organised facilities...

The lodge is well located so that you can easily walk either north or south without getting tired! If your feet have had enough the friendly and helpful staff will give you a lift either way. Our room was comfortable with ensuite facilities. The food was simple but well cooked. Lots of books and other information, with a visitor centre...

Thank you for the review Sheila, we really appreciate it when guests leave feedback. Personal experiences really help capture what a visit to Fair Isle is like, and of course everyone takes away something different with them.

Fair Isle is a jewel in the middle of nowhere between The Orkneys and The Shetland islands. It is worth a visit for its fabulous wildlife and also for its small but world famous knitwear industry. We recently (end of May 2016) spent three nights at The Fair Isle Bird Observatory. What a surprise! Far from some backpacking hostel which...

I spent a week at FIBO recently and loved it. The accommodation is very good, the food is good (and plentiful), the bar is well-stocked, there is an extensive library and the staff are excellent. FIBO is ideal for birders of any standard, and help is at hand from the very professional staff and from other knowledgeable birders among the...

I was on the last plane to land on Fair Isle for the next 4 days. The purpose built Bird Observatory is just that well designed and comfy with a fantastic reference library. The wardens were helpful and knowledgeable and it was fun to listen to the bird call in the evenings to see what birds had been seen. The...

I have never before stayed in hotel-type accommodation where I wasn't given a key to my room (though you could have one if you asked). Wonderful full board food. I was expecting rather dull Spartan rations but I couldn't have been more wrong. There is one communal table which is a great way to meet new people. We only had...
