We booked a one night stay with dinner after our ferry back to Skye was delayed. The bedroom and bathroom had clearly been recently renovated and both were spotless. We were particularly impressed with the COVID measures put in place by the hotel. Despite what must be a stressful time for everyone working at the hotel, the service we received was extremely friendly, while also highly professional. As we were going to be leaving extremely early in the morning we did not expect breakfast, but the receptionist assured us that a packed breakfast/lunch would be provided as part of our room rate, and this was indeed the case - two very good packed lunches were ready for us in reception as we left. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and while the decor might be considered somewhat dated, the food and service were both excellent and very good value for money too. We had locally caught and very fresh seafood and a decent bottle of wine and very perfectly satisfied. After a good night's sleep we left early and would be happy to return.

Only stayed one night having arrived on delayed ferry just in time for dinner. Food was good, well cooked and service was very good. Rooms appeared to have been very recently renovated, or in very good condition, and because of location noise was never going to be an issue. We had pre-ordered a fairly early breakfast which in general was very good, only complaint was my wife ordered a poached egg, which duly arrived on a huge plate with no toast or anything, toast arrived 15mins later, she's still commenting on this. Other than that when sun came out it transformed the location and set a good standard for accommodation on the rest of our cycling trip across the Isles.

This family-run traditional hotel is on the main road in Daliburgh. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The bedroom was pleasant with a good bed, but the furniture does need updating, especially in the bar/restaurant. And the bath in the room was definitely needing to be replaced - ceramic surface, with large green copper stain below the hot tap, and rust on the plughole. Décor in the hotel is a bit tired too. The sofas and armchairs in the lounge are comfortable.

The view out of the front of the hotel is not very attractive, but that's unavoidable, nothing directly to do with the hotel.

The food is reasonable and reasonably priced.

We visited this hotel for one night on a rate of £146 per night.

This hotel is an absolute dive and you should avoid if you can. I am honestly shocked at how these people can charge money to stay at this hotel. The only reason hotels like this survive is because there is no competition and limited choice nearby.

It is a shame that the standard of hospitality is so poor in a beautiful part of the world. Hotels like this give such a bad impression of Scotland.

The hotel itself is exceptionally old fashioned and drastically needs refurbished. The health and safety standards are questionable. The hotel rooms do not lock automatically (from the outside) when you close them. You need to lock yourself in the room, which I think is probably a fire safety breach.

The food and hygiene at dinner and breakfast was abysmal. I'm pretty sure we were cooked a ready meal (chicken curry) from the local Coop. The hygiene at breakfast was really awful. This would be bad at the best of times, but even more so in a global pandemic. The waitress picked up toast with her hands after it dropped on the table and proceeded to serve it. The chef or cook walked out the kitchen with no whites on and handed us a boiled egg after my cooked breakfast was served 10 minutes earlier. I was also served a burnt burger bun, which was supposed to be a 'toasted roll'.

This is Scottish hospitality at its worst and a disgrace to the Outer Hebrides.

Fiona Looking over your reviews of your holiday in our Beautiful Island chain, there seems to be a pattern of disappoint throughout. Perhaps you were one of this years visitors who felt robbed of their non cultural, purpose built resort holidays abroad and did not appreciate the way of the Islands. “Old Fashioned” in your eyes is time honoured in mine. Original stone walls are better to be displayed than plastered over and painted grey. I am concerned regarding your points on Health and Safety and Fire Safety. It’s just as well you covered this on trip advisor as I was unaware of any rules or regulations that a hotel had to follow. Regarding your complaint about the Chef/Cook not wearing whites, that was me, the owner, who served out your 3minute boiled egg to follow your full grilled breakfast, (replacement egg, as first had cracked) as the young waitress did not want to go back to serve you, due to your manner. Perhaps in your quest to find “ Scottish hospitality at its best”; you do some research, have a bit of understanding and approach staff with a smile, as behind our masks we naturally have a welcome smile.

What a shame that as the Islands recover from covid shut down this large hotel is staffed by unfriendly teenagers and is unable to accommodate more than 6 people for Lunch!
We arrived before they opened for lunch service and joined the two waiting cyclists sitting in the porch area at the front door. We were informed by them that lunch began at 12.30 and so we waited… my husband went to use the facilities where a member of staff enquired the reason for his being in the hotel… he stated he was here for lunch. Another family of two adults and two juniors arrived and also joined us waiting outdoors. 12.30 arrived and the staff member arrived at the front door asking for the two cyclists. She turned to the family of four offered them a table and then asked us what we were there for… bearing in mind this is the same staff member that challenged my husband inside the building… she then proceeded to inform us there was no space for us to have lunch…. But to come back in an hour!
Needless to say we ate elsewhere.

I am so sorry we were unable to accommodate you for lunch when you wanted it. Perhaps if you had read the big black notice board by the front door or entered the hotel and enquired you could have been informed of available spaces for lunch rather than asking 2 cyclists who had booked and were waiting for us to complete our Covid enhanced cleaning routine before opening our doors to the public. Your husband possibly forgot to mention lunch to our 28year old (teenage looking) friendly bar server as he was in need of using our wash room facilities. To leave such a review without entering the building looks more like sabotage to the company than an honest review.

I was travelling the Outer Hebrides in August with my partner & our dog. Our ferry was cancelled last minute due to a technical fault (we were told literally as we were about to board the ferry) and we had no accommodation to go back to nor did we know of any that was pet friendly that we could book last minute.

A friend (who is originally from Eriskay) suggested the Borrodale Hotel as they knew it was pet friendly. We called ahead (while waiting for CalMac to return our tickets) and the person on the front desk was so friendly, understanding, and helpful. They secured us one of their last rooms for the night, booked us in for dinner that night, and breakfast the next morning. I was completely stressed out and panicking but the staff at the Borrodale really put me at ease.

That evening we ate dinner in the bar with our dog and the service from the staff there was just as helpful as the front desk staff. Due to Covid restrictions it was table service and, although the pub was busy, the staff were very attentive. Our dinner came quickly and tasted excellent! Honestly top notch!

The room was spacious and very comfortable. The beds and pillows were so soft, we had excellent wi-fi, plenty of storage space and a freeview TV.
The only thing I would say here is there was maybe a too much furniture (mostly chairs) in a room of it’s size (a twin room) however we were definitely not complaining - it was just something to note.
The en-suite shower/bath was easy to use and quite powerful too.

I honestly can’t express how grateful I am to the staff of the Borrodale Hotel. They have definitely improved my outlook on the Outer Hebrides and have made it so I am likely to return. Their customer service succeeded where CalMac’s failed.

Thank you, Borrodale!

The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating and I think they do the best job with the resources that are available to them. The rooms, like the hotel are tired and dated. The furniture looks as though it has been picked up from the local charity shop and there is only a small hanging area for your clothes, no wardrobe because the room is so small. The bathroom is relatively neat and the very best thing about it is that the water is hot and the shower works adequately. The loo seat however was broken. The food in the evening was passable but when we asked for the sweet menu after our first course we were told the kitchen was shut and that was that! In the morning breakfast was absolutely disgusting. The dishes that contained the prunes were stained and the presentation was poor. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anybody because it’s expensive for what it is. In fact if I have learned anything this holiday, it is that B&B is the way forward. You’ll get more for your money and you won’t be reliant on a company that care if you stay at their hotel or not.

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of June, we received a nice warm welcome and the procedures operating for Covid were clearly explained. It was good to see an establishment following guidance. We ate in the hotel for breakfast and dinner, the service we received was excellent and with a limited choice for a vegetarian, alternatives we provided. The food was delicious. The hotel is being gradually being refurbished inside and out, the outside has been mordernised and painted grey and white. The room we had was very clean and we enjoyed the corner jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was a pre order as it the case under Covid in many establishments, I liked this as your food was served quickly on arrival for breakfast. There was no housekeeping service during our stay again a measure under Covid, however towels, additional tea/coffee were available along with bins to drop off used towels. Again I think I prefer this option of just collecting towels when you need them and not being disturbed by housekeeping. You can walk or cycle in the area and Eriskay is just a short drive away which has a beautiful beach.

Almost an excellent.

Location near perfect- at the major road junction in South Uist, and about 1 mile from the Hebridean Way walking route.

Large clean room with a comfortable bed.

Friendly and helpful staff, and very good food at dinner, though perhaps we should have elected to eat in the bar- the dining room is pleasant enough but just a little short of ambience.

Breakfast was very good- complete an order form the night before, so very efficient and timely. It is served in a conservatory area to the side of the hotel, so not the same room as dinner.

While your room is not made up each day, a supply of tea, milk and biscuits, and other room sundries is kept on the stairs to help yourself to.

Visited the hotel for a dink the previous evening and was impressed by hospitality of bar staff. Nothing to much bother. We booked for a meal following night and we were not disappointed. Staff friendly and helpful. Meal was excellent. Although staying in lochboisdale at a different location staff wanted to make sure we had enjoyed our stay in South uist. Would stay there if returning
