A slightly quirky place with 'rules' barring men wearing hats and dogs that bark (that are enforced) but if you can get past that it does the basics of food and drink very well. Plenty of choices on a blackboard, good quality, generous portions and quick service. Three different Arkell's ales on tap, well kept. Decor is a little tired...

Every couple of years we travel down to Bath for New Year. This pub is a very good meeting point as we all come from different locations in Kent and Hertford. It is a very welcoming pub and this year was no exception. We had been travelling slowly in freezing fog and by the time we arrived our car was...

Chieveley is lucky to have the Red Lion. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner with accomodation on site if needed and a good sized carpark, the standards are high for a village pub. The Landlord and staff are nice and friendly and always have a ready smile. Plenty of choices on the blackboards from sandwiches to a...

This is a good place to stay if you need overnight accommodation with close access to Heathrow airport, which is less than an hour away. It is easily accessible from the motorway, less so if you arrive on the A-34 where you're plunged into a bewildering maze of lanes. But the Olde Red Lion is far more than just a...

We stayed here for one night on way home from a bad sailing on the Santander to Portsmouth Ferry. The owner was charming and helpful, the room (Lochalsh) was very clean and very comfortable. We had a lovely meal unfortunetly I could not do justice to it as I was still feeling a bit sick. We slept for about 12...

We read the review in "Just off the Motorway" and called in for Sunday lunch. Helpful landlord helped us park our oversized campervan. Good food and service reasonably priced. Don't expect haute cuisine, just good gastro-pub food. The highlight for me was the gent's toilet. The landlord has framed all the bad trip advisor reviews for you to read above...

We stayed for one night following a trip to Newbury races. The pub is located in a lovely setting and the accommodation is separate from the main pub and so the rooms are quiet. There are tables available in the garden and plenty of parking. The staff were very friendly and we ate a nice evening meal from a wide...

Only stayed one night, but wish it had been more, what a lovely pub! The B & B rooms have been converted very sympathetically, and with great attention to detail. There are flowers everywhere in and around the pub - beautiful. Great breakfast over at the pub, brilliant service and lovely coffee. Don't hesitate to book there, though not cheap,...

Typical pub grub over priced. My husband had a lamb dish and it was ok, but big price. I'm vegetarian and not a fussy one, I had the vegetarian burger, burger was the size of a tea plate no too big for the bun, full of mushy beans and veg, why do some chefs presume we only eat that??? It...
