Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed a week in Stable D’Or cottage. This is a great complex and a great base to explore Northumberland. The cottage itself had everything we needed and was well laid out. They had given extra thought to us having a young child and provided us with a stair gate and a travel cot. The swimming pool allowed us to have 5 slots which were also welcome with the little one. You booked a time and had it to yourself which is lovely. This is the 2nd time we have visited the complex always clean tidy and gorgeous grounds. Amazing walks from the front door and close to Alnwick and Bamborough. Both worth a visit. Thanks again, we have booked to come back and will return in February.

We’ve just had a beautiful stay at North Farm Cottages with 8 and 4 littles ones plus a dog! Very spacious and catered for us all very well. Great living space downstairs and lovely bedrooms too. Views are beautiful and it’s just a short walk to the nearest beach. Swimming pool is great and really easy to book too!

This was our second stay at Barn Owl. It's in a lovely peaceful location. Very convenient for the coast, the Broads and Norwich. The accommodation is welcoming and provides every comfort we could want.

We have now booked Grey Croft 4 years running. It is extremely comfortable & well-equipped with good attention to detail by the owners. There is a sea view from every window so you get the benefit of sunshine and light streaming in. Great location and easy walk to the beach and the village through a private path which is well maintained by the owners. It is very easy to hop on a bus as there is a courtesy stop outside. We have always really appreciated the excellent customer care from the owners when booking and appreciated the really prompt maintenance help on the rare occasion we have needed it. It is ideal for walkers and bird watchers, very peaceful and now one of our favourite holiday places. We love it!

Room Tip: The Dunstanburgh Castle inn in the nearby village is great & does takeaway food as an option.

Had a recent warm and comfortable stay in Stable D'or, North Farm. Area is quiet, pool was a huge bonus, clean and booking system seemed fair, the family enjoyed the ducks and the beach, though walk to beach does take at least 20 minutes. My only negative comment is that the fixture and fittings in the cottage were dated, bed linen etc not of the best quality and kitchen mugs were far too small !

Stayed at Low Croft cottage in January 2022, for 7 nights. What a wonderful stay we had. Me, the wife and dog with family popping in at times. The 3 bedrooms were very comfortable and the whole cottage is very well appointed. Every mod-con available with plenty plates and the like. Nice bedding, soft towels and lots of indoor space. There’s no private garden but there’s outdoor space a plenty. The cottage is great for dog owners. Easy access. Hard wood floors so easy to clean and access to great walks for the pooch. THe path to the beach is 15-20 minutes but a gentle stroll where well behaved dogs can be off the lead 90% of the way. A really great stay, the weather was awesome for January and the views were wonderful. Well worth a visit.

My 3 generations stayed at High Hemmel in July and I can honestly say it was faultless. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could want. If you want to be in the centre of a bustling city this is not for you but if you want a restful break amidst beautiful scenery I can't recommend it highly enough. My teenagers have already got me to book it again for next year!

This property is low standard, not part of the main complex. The beds and sofas need to be thrown away, didn’t get a good night sleep, at all, don’t sit on the sofa you could fall through. The property says there is WiFi. There is no WiFi at the Retreat! The best part of the holiday was the pool but you have to get 1 hour slots which isn’t a problem unless you are at the retreat since the 4 sessions out of 5 were at 8 pm until 9 pm. This was for the retreat only, the other properties had better times. When I asked the property manager to review the times, I was treated like badly with poor customer service. This is my experience as an honest customer so if you are a family consider what I have said because we could have been treated better. We stayed 1 night, and would not recommend

This part of Northumberland is a less well known version of Cornwall and all the better for it! Craster, Alnwick, Alnmouth, Howick Hall and a raft of spectacular, quiet beaches all within a short drive. We stayed in Grey Croft and had an excellent experience. The cottage was clean, well appointed and located just next to the kids play park. We used the pool most days which the family loved. A 20 minute walk to the beach through lovely countryside and dunes. Easy walking to local pubs, shop and restaurants. We will go back here and would recommend it to anyone.
