My fiancee and I stayed one night as we are looking around for potential wedding venues in 2022. This hotel is an absolute gem! The grounds are incredibly picturesque the rooms right through to the bar area have had a modern renovation and are incredibly comfortable. The restaurant served fantastic food high quality with filling quantity (my fiancee had to leave half of her main course being too full and we shared a pannacotta dessert)

The afternoon tea service is fresh with a wide variety of small sandwiches and cakes - definite value for money for people who enjoy a quaint afternoon tea

We stayed in the white lady suite - very luxurious so comfortable and priced in line with the greater Manchester area.

Due to COVID there were few guests though safety precautions were thoroughly observed and Marcin was an absolute delight. Attentive chatty and passionate about the hotel and it's history he was able to regale us with details about the ownership and running of the hotel over the decades. He really made us feel welcome adding such value to our stay.

For a peaceful night away I would absolutely recommend statham lodge it is a real local treat.

I was surprised by just how nice this place was. I paid about £80 and had a lovely room, spacious and with a nice P shaped bath and a pleasant view over the gardens. Staff were nice and the place has a calm feel which I liked. It’s as if you’re away from it all when actually, Manchester really isn’t that far away and the M6 and M56 are both easily reachable.

There’s no doubt that this hotel is a bit old fashioned. I didn’t mind that because I thought it was old fashioned in a good way. But some people will turn their nose up. It all depends what you want. I just liked the atmosphere here. It was even slightly quirky, I’d say. I’m pretty sure it’s independently run and not part of a chain. It has that kind of feel.

I disagree with the previous reviewer who said that the decor was old and the room out of date. My room was fine and in fact the bathroom looked quite new. Although the decor is traditional, there were no frayed carpets or obvious decorative issues. The place is being kept up perfectly well and the gardens are beautiful.

It certainly makes a great wedding venue with the attractive grounds, and I believe it’s very popular for that. I saw a room set up ready for a wedding breakfast, and it looked spectacular.

Nearly everyone coming here will use the large car park provided but it is possible to catch a bus from Altrincham tram stop which goes right past the hotel on its way to Warrington.

The downside is the traffic noise from the nearby M6 and the lack of air conditioning. In summer, that can make the room stuffy. But I would recommend this place. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

From the outside this hotel looks very appealing. It has some plus points: room well soundproofed - there was a wedding the night we stayed and we couldn’t hear anything in our room, plenty of parking, comfy bed and the staff were in the main very friendly.
However, the level of cleanliness in the room left a lot to be desired, particularly when in the middle of a pandemic and most establishments are doing their utmost to keep everyone safe with additional cleaning. The cushion on the bed had foundation make up on it from a previous occupant. The bathroom door frame had finger marks on one side and what looked like a spilt drink on the other side. I had to wipe the visible dirt from the 3 light switches and the bedside table, which had a glass top and stains could be seen where hot drinks must have been spilt and run underneath. The wardrobe door was also generally grubby.
Tea/coffee facilities were scant and only included enough milk for one cup each.
I don’t feel that the nightly charge is justified at almost double the cost of what a well known basic chain brand can offer.

When you don’t eat the food you are served because it’s not hot and then get told that it’s on me as I didn’t run around the hotel trying to find the only server that’s poor customer service. Certainly if I had been asked after my food was served if everything was ok I would have said it wasn’t but I wasn’t asked. More training must be done as who orders to not eat it and get charged full price?

Arrived to discover wedding party in progress. Big noisy celebration naturally. The problem was there was only one bar and that was the only place to dine. So there was only two options stand in the bar with the wedding guests and endure the noise or take our drinks back to our room. We went to our room. We then had to wait until 8pm until the party moved away from the bar so we could get a seat and order dinner.

The hotel really should have another area where non wedding guests could sit and eat or they shouldn’t take bookings from non wedding guests. We really felt like we were in the way yet we’d paid too!

Room good, bathroom very nice, nice decor, beautiful grounds and staff efficient but it didn’t help that our room was right above where the smokers gathered so noisy until about midnight.

My tip for you - if you want to book a room ask if there is a wedding taking place. If there is don’t book!

The hotel looks very nice and indeed it is, but it was not my first choice being a little further from Irlam than I wanted to be. Nevertheless I consider that I was very fortunate in choosing this hotel. My wife and I were in the area having been to a family reunion in Yorkshire for the weekend and I had a business visit to Irlam early on Monday morning before we headed home to Scotland.
We arrived on a very cold Sunday evening, we were the only guests that night nevertheless the hotel was warm. As we were the only guests dinner was served in the lounge bar. We chose Broccoli and Stilton soup followed by fish and chips though there were plenty of things to choose from . The quality of the food was excellent and the portions were so large that one plate of fish and chips would have been enough for the two of us. Breakfast the following morning was equally good though neither of us was particularly hungry. Our room was on the ground floor (good for people with mobility issues) and the heating was on "frost protection setting " which was still quite warm, when we went in. On turning up the radiator it quickly warmed up to a comfortable temperature. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The bathroom fittings are a bit old but everything worked and was also very clean. The view from the beadroom window and from the lounge bar is out over large lawns with plenty of seats for some "quiet time" with a book in summer. During the course of the 12 -18 hours we were at the hotel it was very clear to me that whoever hires the staff for this hotel clearly knows what he/she is doing. We met 5 members of staff, the receptionist on arrival, the bar waitress at dinner, the chef at breakfast, another receptionist in the morning and another member of staff who served us lunch before our departure. All had good people skills and made us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble. It's now very easy to understand why the hotel is a popular venue for conferences and events. Would we stay there again? Certainly without any hesitation!

We decided to re-visit Statham Lodge Hotel for our wedding anniversary as we got married here 10 years ago, and we weren't disappointed.
it is still as beautiful and we just wanted to say a big thank you to Rosie on reception who's charm and friendliness made our stay, we decided to dine in as it was steak night instead of going into the village. The bar staff were attentive throughout our meal and the food was lovely. Our room was spacious and clean and best of all quiet. Breakfast staff were chatty but friendly and the breakfast was clean and cooked well, unfortunately as we were checking out reception looked closed as nobody was there to say thank you and we wanted to leave a tip and say thank you.

Statham Lodge was very clean and all staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very good. The bar area is spacious and comfortable and served a very good curry! The hotel is perfectly situated within a short walking distance of the canal and lovely Lymm village, so the car could be left behind in the large car park at the hotel making this the perfect location for a relaxing break. Having said this, we stayed when the hotel was not particularly busy i.e no weddings or functions, so a very peaceful stay - would definitely stay again at the same time of year.

Went yesterday for afternoon tea, which was a gift from friends for our 30th wedding anniversary. We were really looking do it, as had heard some great comments. Where we were seated was lovely and all the unmatching china was great. Staff were excellent, very helpful and courteous. I ordered a diet coke and my husband had a pot of tea.
The sandwiches were not great - not the most tasty but that was possibly because i had a lot of the end pieces and when i opened them, the filling only covered a quarter of the space, so I was basically eating plain bread.
The scones were lovely and you got lots of jam and clotted cream, which was great. The cakes were the best of the three afternoon teas we have had so far and they would have got 5 stars. I ordered another small diet coke.
However, when we left we checked at the bar to see if we needed to pay for the second coke we were charged for both. A £50 afternoon tea didn't even include a drink for someone who doesn't drink tea and coffee. Unfortunately this and the sandwiches caused us to rate this as 3rd out of the three afternoon teas we have had, (we got 5!).

Answer from Chris D
Warrington, United Kingdom
Hi Julia, Statham Lodge was a grand country house in 12 acres of grounds, it was purchased by the Walker family in 1960 and was run as a casino until the 1970's when it became a hotel due to changes in the gaming laws. It is now a very successful business run by the same family. We cater for over 100 weddings a year this year winning Cheshire wedding venue of the year. I hope that helps and many hanks for your question kind regards Chris (GM)
