Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful hotel with great service. A lovely roaring fire and a comfy couch in front of it. Nothing nicer after a beautiful meal. Then upstairs to our room. A great venue on a dark November night. We'll definitely be back.

The hotel is just as the marketing images show, no surprises. Dog friendly with access directly to the outside space via patio doors (I always take lots of covers to protect carpet). The bed was comfy and bathroom woowzers, I had to have a bath it looked so gorgeous, great shower too. Food was delicious at dinner and breakfast, all staff were pleasant and friendly.

Decided to have a wee break and wanted to split the journey down South and found this place. From the moment we stepped through the door we were made feel very welcome. Our room was ready so got checked in straight away. Rooms are large and spacious, bright and the decor is very nice. Great size bathroom and the toiletries are Rituals which are really nice.. Evening meal was outstanding and breakfast freshly made and hot. Thanks to Jack (manager) and Lucy for the great service we had. Highly recommend this hotel.

I don’t hesitate to recommend the Fleece at Ruleholme following our wedding there. The day was perfect, Jade Lamb has been excellent from start to finish, helping us to plan the perfect day, making recommendations and suggestions to help. Always pleasant, polite, friendly and professional. The food was fantastic with all our guests happy with their meals. The rooms were really outstanding. All the staff from receptionists, waiters, kitchen team etc were extremely pleasant, efficient and caring to me and all our guests. A fantastic wedding day thanks to Laura and the team.

Today was our first visit. Pleasantly surprised! The building was modern and tastefully decorated with a rustic twist..lovely.. It being Sunday we opted for a traditional Sunday roast. My 90 year old Dad tucked into his roast lamb with relish..and nearly cleared his plate..and found room for dessert. My son's asked for extra potatoes..and really enjoyed their roast pork which was tender and tasteful. There was a good selection of vegetables too which we enjoy. I had roast lamb too and was full. It was lovely. Finished off with sticky toffee pudding ..fully recommended!! Service was good. We asked for a break after our mains...to make room for the sweet..not a problem. There were families with young children..everyone was well catered for. You have the choice of a 2 or 3 plate set menu..we opted for main and sweet ..and were all full. Thoroughly enjoyed it..Will definitely call again.

Just returned from this venue after a very poor show. My wife and I were booked for dinner at 7.30, when we arrived we were told there was no beef Wellington or sirloin, this left fish and chips or a burger, not exactly the kind if dining we had in mind. We decided to leave, which didn't seem to bother the staff too much. I cannot understand why in this country staff in restaurants don't feel the need to give good service. Perhaps it is because they employ Saturday girls, rather than experienced staff. Ultimately this creates 2 problems, no role.models to show how things should be done and temporary staff. A vicious circle of inappropriate service. Due to this experience we will not return, once bitten etc, returning to a well known favourite in the centre of Carlisle for next week's dining.

Myself and a friend visited for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous ! The food was delicious and well presented. We opted for the leek and onion veloutè which was smooth and creamy and was a nice start to the meal. We then had the roast beef dinner which was excellent ! The beef was cooked perfectly and served pink , nice fresh greens , mash and roast potatoes and some carrot and parsnip and a huge home made Yorkshire pudding . There was cauliflower cheese served on the side which was also super tasty ! The service was excellent and nothing was to much trouble , we asked for extra Yorkshires and gravy and this was provided without hesitation and the staff were very friendly and polite. The prices are very reasonable and we would have had a dessert to but we were to full :) I look forward to visiting again and would recommend others to a visit for Sunday lunch.

Our second visit and planning our 3rd. Everything and everyone at this hotel is outstanding. The staff are friendly, well trained and everything one would expect and hope for. I am GF and have a shellfish allergy. Every care was given by, Chef, front of house and waiting staff to ensure I had complete peace of mind. Our bedroom was so, so, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bed is fabulously comfortable, so much so, we were given the supplier and are going to buy one. I am notoriously 'picky ' and truthfully, I couldn't find any fault anywhere

I bought a steak night voucher for my wife for her birthday in June 23, with the voucher you could get a starter, steak and desert each plus half a bottle of wine. We booked to go for the steak night in August 23, the steak night was still advertised on the website at this point, however on arrival we were told steak night was no longer available. This was very annoying but not the end of the world. The food itself was still very good. My wife had steak and I had the beef burger. My wife was very impressed with the steak and it was cooked very well (medium rare). For desert I sticky toffee which was very tasty with some nice ice cream. It had a bit of crunch on the top which I really liked. My wife had the chocolate fondant which was also very good. The service was excellent but I was a little disappointed that they had ran out of Corby Blonde which I really like and the brewery is 10 minutes away from the Fleece. Overall a decent experience. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Had we been going to order off the menu there would have been no complaints, just very frustrating with the whole steak night carry on.

Lovely building, lovely room. service in restaurant was slow and seemed unorganised. Not a fan at all of the pictures on the walls! Seem a very odd choice in a beautiful area, almost creepy. Great stop for Hadrians wall.
