We arrived by car, when we entered the first gate the first guard called in that we arrived. We got to the second gate and the second guard called in that we arrived. When we arrived on the property no one was there we had to wait a very long time for the golf cart to pick us up and take us to reception. At reception they told us our room was not ready that the driver would take us to the beach and pick us up when the room was ready this was 1:00. At the beach the driver told us he would return in 30 minutes. Its now 3:30 and still no driver, we had to go to the bar and ask what happened. At reception we were asked if we wanted to go the La Islita the little island near by. We said yes. The driver told us he would pick us up at 3:45 from our room. He never showed. We walked to reception and were told it was too late to go to the other island. Next day at 8am our doorbell rang! it was housekeeping!! wanting to clean our room! We were sleeping! The following day we got up early just in case they arrived, we went on a boat tour and returned at 5:30 and still no housekeeping. My husband was about to go in the shower when the doorbell rang and yup, it was housekeeping! We were out all day, yet they come just when we get back.
Beautiful place but staff needs some serious retraining. I would also recommend to expand the dinner menu to some smaller meals. We took the ceviche cooking class and were full but wanted to have a bottle of wine with some nibbles. The bar was so windy that our glasses got knocked over so we went to the restaurant downstairs. Very few items on menu for appetizers. We also noticed that the water feature fountain that runs along the restaurant was broken, we asked the waitress she said it had been broken for a while. Not what you would expect from a place like this. Girl at front desk is nice but not friendly, does not get back to you when you have questions.

We arrived by taxi from our hotel in Cartagena, just as Corona 19 virus was starting to affect Colombia, and the Las Islas was fast emptying of foreigners. Cindy Taylor was a big and friendly help at the reception. We found our villa was very tight for 3 adults (we paid $200 per night for the third person), also even though an extra bed was put in, everything else was only for 2 people (toiletries, outdoor deck chairs etc). We saw the treehouse next door was vacant, and we negotiated a good deal for the additional space, and thus got to sample both types of accommodations. I ( the mom) had villa #19 sitting right on a small "private" beach, which turned out not so private when a couple insisted to reserve "our" chairs for 2 days in a row by plunking their stuff in the early morning. We learned that effectively the entire beach is public and with the current world situation we could get over this, and we did. The treehouse where my adult daughters stayed was fun, but in the high winds one night it swayed considerably, doors flew open and the front-door iPad entrance alarm kept ringing. Not for the faint hearted, or if you hate stairs. Not quite sure why a villa with its large private pool and beachfront is normally the same price as the treehouse with only a whirlpool and no beachfront, but maybe I am wrong. Loved the Japanese toilets, Hermès toiletries, delicious beach lunches (mmm thin crust pizza with goat cheese and pears), buffet breakfasts with local specialities, the sound of the waves all night long, the wilderness around us with the noisy guacharacas (birds) screeching in the mornings in the trees. We did quite a bit of room service which was very efficient. Our recommendations for improvement would be not charging for mini bar drinks, I always find that tedious in expensive hotels. Very nice and helpful Emil on the beach, gracias for my Spanish lessons.

I am been in the hotel 2 or 3 times the hotel have improved since opening, the hosts and help are amazing and the location is impressive, as I call it, the little secret paradise in the Caribbean. I love the secluded location and accessibility by boat or car, boat is easier and faster than car. So far the rooms, I prefer bungalow #8 or 12, are kept as new but in our latest stay start to see opportunities to improve maintenance of the pool. The food is another area where I suggested to the management team to make some changes from a mostly French or European menu to include something more diverse to let people know the wide variate of Colombian cuisine. We are planning to go back soon and hope to see this start rise higher to bring the tourism industry to Baru and help his people!!

Top marks for the architecture, design and gorgeous location. And for much of the thoughtfulness, eg tubes of sun tan cream by the beach. But some of the basics were sub par. A wonderfully designed room but with an uncomfortable bed and poor quality bedding - eg just one pillow and it filled with chunks of foam. Being British, I think Premier Inn and it does better beds and bedding than this. Sadly no coffee machine either, just when you might want an early morning coffee to look at the view. I’m sure management response will be that you order your free coffee from room service. Who knows how long that would take to arrive? They tell you to call for the little golf carts when you want to go anywhere, but when you do, you get told it would be much quicker to walk, which is correct. Not many golf carts and I guess all guests want them at the same time. When it’s dark. It is very very dark so I was thankful for my phone torch when coming back on a lightless bike. But each hut having its own bikes is a very nice touch. And then the most bizarre thing was that to get a drink over dinner involved climbing several flights of stairs to the bar. Never before have I encountered a restaurant where the omnipresent waiters dont want to serve you alcohol but do want to remove your plate before you’ve finished eating. Tip to management - more training is needed!

Overall: We booked the Las Islas with so much excitement after travelling around Colombia for the first half of our trip, we did were excited to spend our last three days in Baru and particularly Las Islas Resort Hotel. The grounds are beautiful and such a wonderful experience to be in as they have for the most part really preserved the natural habitat. The entire resort is gated and well secured so safety is not an issue. The cabins are a real treat as you are embedded among natural beauty and the hut design is cool.
We had a beach front cabin with a private pool (The pool was not clean and the steps were very slimy, these pools did not have really any good working filters and should be monitored better by hotel). The room itself has all the amenities with a very well appointed bathroom and sleeping area. Each cabin has a hammock and we were lucky enough to have two separate sitting ears located on each side of our cabin. We had a mini bar, ice maker, coffee maker (ours did not work). fresh fruit and both beach towels, towels and robes. Don't leave any half eaten fruit in your cabin as it will immediately attract ants (but seeing we were in the middle of nature we were aware of this and did not bother us). You will get nightly turn down service (again not consisted we had it two of the three nights). We also had two bicycles outside our cabin (again maintenance, greasing the brakes and filling the tires with air would be helpful). Although the place is pretty cared for it is starting to show wear and tear and is in need of places being refreshed, fixed and repaired. Beaches: They have two beaches one that is on the resort and the other that is a private beach you take a boat to get to. Both beaches offer food and beverages and they were just ok. I'm not sure if this is just the area but the beachers are not very clean and more efforts can be made to prepare them before guests arrive. Food was ok, nothing amazing or to die for delicious, it was ok. For the cost of the food at this resort I would expect a top chef preparing the meals, perhaps coming out to great his guest etc. Unfortunately, none of that and even when someone seemed like they were in charge they had a difficult time reiterating what we wanted or needed. For example, sitting at the beach bar and ordering two rounds of martini's the first round was great - the second round the waiter spilled the entire glass all over me. He was very apologetic, but no management came and acknowledged what had happened or compensated for anything. Advice: Get paper copies of all your receipts, at this resort you do not pay for anything until you leave, everything gets charged to your room. We had a huge issue with this and unfortunately staff are not attentive enough so you may get charged for things you did not even have. Ask them for a copy of all receipts (as they keep them). Look and make sure what you ordered and what they charged, as if something is there on check out and you don't agree with your paying it regardless.

These bad reviewers are hilarious and so deceiving. If you’re expecting the Four Seasons, stay at a Four Seasons!! This is a beautiful eco hotel in the heart of the jungle, employing local residents who only got bridge access & TVs less than a decade ago. They sell handicrafts made by hand from the women who live in the island. They are restoring the local coral reefs, have donated & are teaching school kids to play instruments, and even grow a lot of their own produce on site! They also won’t cut down the vegetation unless absolutely necessary (so you’ll have to duck on some paths) — and they have bikes at each bungalow.

To directly address some of the other negative comments:
- The chairs are plastic… they’re US$250 Philippe Stark chairs (and they’re padded)
- The pools are dirty, cold & moldy… the pools are filled with water from the Caribbean ocean. Again: it’s an eco hotel

The staff is beyond lovely, the food is incredibly delicious, and the drinks are strong 👍🏼 The hotel primarily gets tourists from Colombia & Mexico, with the occasional European or American.

And for any LGBTQ+ couples — this hotel is incredibly gay friendly!!! We’ve only been here 3 days and have counted 6 other LGBTQ+ couples. Not once have we been treated differently (and that’s saying a lot when it comes to world travel for gay couples).

Highly recommend!!!!! Can’t wait to come back (already planning our next trip!!)

Beautiful location, wonderful, attentive staff, every detail has been thought of and more. We were in Bungalow #19 for 4 nights. It's the perfect spot if you prefer sea level with private beach access. Highly recommend the snorkeling, mangrove, and bioluminescence tours. We also spent many hours just relaxing on the beach under the mangrove trees with a wonderful breeze. Food is fantastic. Staff enjoy working for the hotel. Most come from the local village of Baru, and report the benefits of the hotel to the community. Absolutely delightful and peaceful getaway. One tip: the boat ride from Cartegena (the best way to reach the hotel) lasts 45 - 60 min and can be quite rough. Take preventative medicine beforehand if you have any propensity for motion sickness.

Overall I think we had a really nice time here in our treetop bungalow. The view was fantastic and we loved lounging there.

Bugs within the Bungalow:
If you want your girlfriend or wife to feel comfortable and you are not a master bug hunter, I would not recommend.
We had a decent amount of bugs chilling out in our room. While they did prioritize their location to our bathroom, many did show up in the main bedroom.
The hotel has a bug net that wraps around the whole bed which stops most bugs, but we did find a few cockroaches or some kind of massive beetle in our bed.

Drinks:
The drinks were fairly bland for me, but my girlfriend loved the strawberry margaritas.

Food:
The menu was also a bit bland and didn’t feel authentic. The food we did order was very good though, just wanted more variety.

Activities:
The activities were great but the communication was so poor prior to arrival that we missed our activity on day one and we were only there for two days. They didn’t respond to many of our questions until the morning we arrived and so we didn’t have time to prepare.
The requirements for the Activities were too vague and so we didn’t wear the appropriate attire and Missed day one activity.

Beach:
The beach chair selection was great. We are able to sit and didn’t feel crowded. Once you get passed the main sand bank in the beach it was all seaweed on the ground so it was not fun being in the water. It didn’t seem to bother other guests.

Transportation:
The Resort is large so it’s difficult to walk from one place to another so they offer bikes and they offer golf cart rides.
We didn’t feel like riding bikes as we were drinking a lot of cocktails and the paths have a TON of low hanging branches. Pretty much anywhere we wanted to go we would call up and get someone to pick us up on a golf cart and no one seemed to mind.
Also once we got used to the resort we are able to walk to more locations.

Transportation to Baru:
We took the boat from Cartagena to Baru and it was great. We took Ubers to and from the pier with no issues.

Oh emmmm geee! This place is great! Traveled by car from Cartagena.
Loved the COVID protocols, either get a rapid test there or produce a negative test so that you can spend your time there without mask.
I really love traveling to places where the people love where they live, and love where they are working. And all staff appeared to be happy and mention that they are treated well there and this makes me happy.

I have no complaints about my stay here, except for the temperature of the water in the shower. I wanted hot water, and my bungalow didn't have that, but that is a minor inconvenience that I did not even address with the property.

Please if you stay here take advantage of all the activities and such they offer. Please travel to the other islands (isletas), go see the bioluminescent tour, please please please make sure you check out the telescope and see the moon and stars....totally worth it. The young lady that works at that awesome telescope is so knowledgeable! Do the yoga or gong, go to the spa, do the cooking or cocktail class! All of it is great and I highly recommend.

Cindy at the front desk is so friendly.
Maria Martinez was so helpful in our time of need
Sebastian and Daniel and the other transportation guys were so accommodating
Teddy is the best with the bioluminescent tour and tour to isleta
The staff at the restaurants were great, Yulina, Kider, and Aide
And Maureen at the spa is the best!

Out in Colombia travel agency booked our travel to all the places we explored in Colombia and they coordinated alot of these hotel extras for us.

Loved our tree top bungalow! I am a big girl, and I did not care about trekking up the stairs

Great staff (except reception) and beautiful property. Unfortunately, the COVID protocols
were dangerously missing. Vast majority of guests were walking around unmasked. In the gym, which only had 6 treadmills/cardio machines, there were 15 people crowded on top of each other with no masks in a closed
space. Some coughing like we were in normal
times. This isn’t just bad, it is in direct violation of government mandated protocols. They could be shut down yet when I expressed concerns to the front desk, they just gave me one of those “FU” smiles. What was even more disheartening, is several staff
members that overheard my complaint, told me privately that they were worried for
their own health. Shameful of the administration

Dear theodorek247, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. It is with great concern that I read your review as the situations you describe go against our own biosafety protocols as well as the gouvetnment's. The use of masks in all public spaces is mandatory fo all guests, employees and visitors of Las Islas. Also, the respect of capacity limits in the hotel is mandatory and closely supervised by all our staff. All of the guests that arrive to Las Islas have to take a fast blood covid test upon arrival and only those whose results are negative are allowed to enter the property. The hotel is also welcoming more and more vaccinated guests. Sometimes guests fell free to not use their masks as they're vaccinated or have negative results, however we are very attentive to these situations and encourage all guests to use maks and comply with all our biosefety protocols. I will personally open an investigation to find out what occured during your stay and the situations that you describe on your review as it is a very serious report. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss this matter further Yours sincerely, Roberto Negrete General Manager

Hello, we took a taxi from Cartagena straight to the hotel. I believe they charged us 400K (which is about 85 US). We were four people. The hotel we were staying at in Cartagena arranged it. The hotel is much more expensive as we did use their transportation on our way back (not because the guy we had asked couldn't come back - we just wanted a larger vehicle for comfort. The return was more like 80US dollars per person. Good luck and have fun a wonderful place to visit just be vigilant with how they charge and what they charge.

The one we stayed had two separate bungalows - to get from one to the other, you have to go down the stairs and then up again - so no way to rush over to your kids in case of emergency (unless you have one adult each sleeping with one kid each). That's probably why they recommend against it.
