Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Media Luna Hostel in Cartagena where we had the best party ever on Wednesday night. Next day the hostel offered us to go to the hostel at Baru. We were told by others the price was really reasonable compared to other trips on boat. A couple that missed the boat had to go Playa Blanca on a taxi boat and then from playa blanca to baru and were charged $40 dollars just from playa blanca to baru. The boat ride from cartagena to Baru with the hostels boat was only $12dollars each way and the stay for me and my partner in a private room was a great price. We had a private beach all to ourselves and no vendors hasseling. The food was local, delicious and plenty! The staff was amazing from the captain of boat who was very responsible to the hostess. Very very nice staff. The rooms were simple and clean and very cool. We slept up stairs. We snorkled and saw star fish. We did paddle board and kayak for no extra charge. The food was delicious and if we asked for something special and were willing to pay extra for it they gladly cooked for us! We partied and had drinks and cocktails on hand all weekend and had the best time ever with our friends! Best hostel ever!

I loved the receptionists / yoga instructor. I enjoyed the free yoga class and free use of kayaks, paddle boards, and snorkeling. I really did not like the food prices especially for the amount of food you actually get. Breakfast was $10,000 pesos and lunch and dinner was $30,000 pesos each. The hostel costs about $57,000 pesos with taxes. What kind of business modo is to price food at 52% of your nightly rate. And if you are going to spike prices like that I would expect a least something more than just a small piece of chicken with some potatoes.

Myself and my girlfriend shared a bottom floor room at the Media Luna Hostel.
As we were on the bottom floor the room was a little basic but on the beech you want to be outside anyway.
The shower located at the back of the house is fantastic and uses a cool leaver system.
Food at Media Luna was phenomenal! We were very easy going and just asked for local fish and by God the food prepared was unreal.
The beach itself is a little small and the tide is in so the water never gets deep which is ideal for just sitting and cooling down in the heat.
The WiFi is actually really good if you to be on your phone but there are plenty of hammocks to just relax and read your books.
Also plenty of dogs that love a good pet!

My girlfriend Anna and I went to Media Luna hostel for 2nights to chill. We’ve experienced the very good service by this hostel. The place is very beautiful and you feel very free and really relaxed after a couple of nights! Is about one hour by boat from Cartagena.
The rooms are basic, sharing a bathroom at the backside, with your upper neighbors.
Basic but clean and everything necessary!
Nice fan for the warm nights!
The choice for lunch and dinner aren’t very divers, because they have to bring it to the island. But chef Robert prepared it very good! Also the drinks and food are less expensive then in Cartagena! You can use the kayaks, paddle boards and water shoes for free!
Special thanks to Daisy, the crew and Juan & Friends for making us feel very welcome and taking very good care if us!

We stayed a full seven nights at Media Luna Baru and it was great! We didn't want to leave. The service is great, the rooms are clean, the sea is warm, the beach is private and the food is so tasty! We recommend this a lot! Best beach near Cartagena for sure!

We spent a week here relaxing on the beach, snorkelling, reading, eating and drinking and enjoyed every second. The beach is secluded and though the water can get a bit clouded in windy weather, it is still great! It is so warm and some corals and fish to see when snorkelling. We also did a one day trip to Isla Rosario and had the best snorkelling experience, including seeing Pablo Escobar's sunken plane and summer residence .

The room were really great for us. Clean and quiet, since the rooms are located in small houses, where the room is the whole floor - we had a room on the second floor with a balcony. Even on Saturday night, when there was a party, we weren't bothered by the noise. There is mosquito nets for each bed and a fan. Most nights there weren't many mosquitos though.

The shower and toilet were clean and good. You have to leave your room, but it didn't bother us. Since the place was not full most of our stay, we had it to ourselves (you share with one other room).

The food is really tasty, although the size of the portions was a bit small for us - when we asked for more rice we got it without charge though. You can bring your own food, if you are on a budget. We brought our own beers and rum and was provided fridge space and glasses of ice. Do try the agua de panela! We are addicted!

All in all the service is really great. Especially Daisy, who took so good care of us! Thank you so much! She truly made the stay the best it could be!

PS. We thought the animals here really made it a better experience: hermit crabs, regular crabs, iguanas, lizards (all quite small, don't worry ;-) ) and of course the fish when snorkelling.

My partner and I visited Media Luna and stayed for 2 nights. We stayed in the dorm room which was basic but nice.
The food prepared is AMAZING! breakfast changed over the two mornings but always came with eggs, fruit, bread/arepas.
The lunches and dinners were so fresh, healthy and delicious!
The hostel has a great vibe for relaxing and enjoying a few beers over a game of volleyball or enjoying the sunset.
Wifi here is surprisingly good for an island.

Our stay at media luna Baru started with all the staff waiting for us on the beach upon arrival by boat. Blass, our host, immediately remembered our names and made us feel more than welcome. Blass' smile and service make you feel as if in a five Starr resort although it is only a hostel with basic facilities. The other staff members were just as helpful and contributed to the experience as well.

Visitors should know that:
the hostel is not in a village or town, so there are no shops around!
To get there go to the media luna hostel in Cartagena to arrange your transport by boat.
The food is basic and not cheap, tasty tough!

Feedback for the hostel:
Improve the food. More variety would be nice.
Respond to my email about my lost pocket knive.
Adjust the music to the guests and time of the day.

But again, Great place!
