I was informed at 12:17 am that the loud, raucous noise that was filling the hostel was because it was a ‘party hostel.’ I’ve stayed in hostels my entire life. Had i known I would not get any sleep before having to get up at 4:30 for sn early flight, I would never have stayed there.
I was solo traveling through Oaxaca and stayed several nights at Oaxaca hostel. It's an excellent place to meet other travelers, to find new friends, and to sign up for tours exploring the whole region. It's a simple place with loud parties at night, not the right spot for someone looking for peace and quiet but hopefully anyone booking here realizes that! The activities every night are fun, people are friendly, and I loved the morning yoga and the walking tour. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to connect with others and enjoy the nightlife of Oaxaca City!
Stayed there with my girlfried in a double room and truly enjoyed it - true backpackers ambience. Very clean, nice commutual areas and the beds were comfy. would recommend. Rooftop terrace is awesome and it's easy to connect with fellow travellers. Front desk staff is helpful and can arrange anything you look for. Only shortcoming is that other travellers were not wearing masks and didn't follow the CoViD-19 regulations, staff was not reminding them or enforcing the rules.
My favorite part about Casa Angel was the quality of the different travelers who passed through. I spent 15 days here and loved every bit of it, always a new batch of world travelers and quite a diverse bunch as well. The location is excellent, right by some fo the best food and cafes in town, and a short walking distance from the areas I found to be my favorite in Oaxaca so the location really was perfect. The staff did a great job of helping out whenever I had any needs and the spaces were cleaned regularly. The terrace upstairs is a great place to meet new people and hang out till late into the evening! The only thing to be aware of is this area is VERY NOISY at night, lots of dogs barking and noise from outside, and occasionally the guests at the hostel are pretty noisy as well although the hostel tries to do what they can to kee the interior noise down. I absolutely recommend Casa Angel!…
Casa Ángel is an excellent budget-friendly lodging choice when in Oaxaca. The place is clean, and a team of young people is responsible for managing the hostel. They check you in with speed, and daily announce new arrivals on a large chalkboard, a nice touch. I was assigned private room #18, very spacious, nice bathroom, and private balcony, reasonable quiet at night. There is a ceiling fan for hotter nights. A generous breakfast is served, with eggs cooked the way you want. All guests are expected to wash their own plates and silverware. The hostel is an easy 5-minute walk to the Santo Domingo church, and then a stroll down the pedestrian Alcalá street to the zócalo.
The room was basic but clean. We didn’t use the little outside bit attached to the room. The terrace is nice. The staff were helpful. Breakfast was good - really liked the pancakes on Sunday. It was a short walk to San Domingo.
Thanks for the staff of Casa Angel for their flexibility and lovely advices. Ever, the receptionist does a walking tour with his partner of the city which is great to get a feel of the place. The hostel offers plenty of activities which is worth trying. The yoga was great too. The only thing is to avoid the day tour offered by another company. That was really crap. Big tourist trap with a guide who is not really a good one at all.
Loved the Hostel but the dance teacher on Thursday nights was a jerk. He didn't respect the students and wasn't looking for an enjoyable class. Please replace your teacher, he was very aggressive and confrontational. He wasn't even accepting of students that were practicing in a non conforming way. He was very strict and not willing to entertain beginners.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Angel Youth Hostel for 4 nights in a shared dorm and loved it. The beds were clean, the terrace was amazing, the staff were very helpful and the walking tour was fantastic! Definitely recommend.
We stayed here for three nights. The staff were awesome in helping us out with day trips, foods and tips. They also organize a walking tour around Oaxaca which is really cool. You’ll visit the mercados and get to taste a lot of the typical Oaxaca specialities. Also relaxing on the rooftop at the end of the day was superb! Thanks!!
