In terms of value for money, it must be one of the best options in San Cristobal. I stayed for a week in the block across from the main hotel and the showers/common areas were always spotlessly clean, there was always hot water, and the WiFi was generally pretty reliable. Breakfast/coffee was included, which again, is great for the price of the room, and the kitchen had drinking water available. If you're a light sleeper you may struggle a bit as the road can be noisy, and the mattress was definitely on the firmer side. In addition, my room could probably have done with some curtains too. If you're planning on spending lots of time in a luxury room then this isn't the place for you, but if you want somewhere that's cheap and cheerful to sleep, with helpful owners/staff, and an eight minute walk to the centre, then you can't go too far wrong.…

A basic and very clean hotel. The owners are always around and I think that's good. Feels very safe. The flow in the shower is not strong but there is plenty of hot water. I stayed on the second floor in the main building. There is noise from the road to me that did not bother; anyway at night there is no traffic so quiet. Breakfast is basic but it is certainly nice to open the day like this. Highly recommend to those looking for cheap and clean accommodation.

We stayed here for 3 nights, including on New Year's Eve. The owners were extremely pleasant and helpful. The husband is from Canada and therefore speaks English - unlike most other people in San Cristóbal :-) We also really enjoyed the breakfast (eggs, toast with jam and butter, and coffee/tea). The rooms are a bit cold at night and could use some more cleaning. When we had a problem with our room, the staff immediately gave us another room and were very helpful. The location is great. Close to all the restaurants, but on a fairly quiet street.

Out of all the places we stayed during our 2-month trip, this was definitely the best! If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, you will not find anything better than this in San Cris. The owner is kind and goes out of his way to make sure that you are comfortable, and the staff are all very kind and professional. They have deals with tour agencies that give you very good prices, and the hotel has a cheap option to get you to the Tuxtla airport as well. As others have mentioned, it is a simple hotel, but it was clean, quiet, and has excellent breakfast. I will stay here every time I come to San Cristobal!

As advertised, simple, clean and great customer service. Fantastic option for traveling on a budget. Family of four had a great time in San Cristóbal based out of this hotel. Good, filling breakfast with great coffee. A quick 5-minute walk from tourist area. European hostal-like environment.

This a great option for the budget traveller. I found the owner very helpful. The staff did not speak much English but were more than willing to try and figure out any of my questions. They were all very pleasant. An excellent breakfast is provided and there are kitchen facilities if you are doing your own meals. For the cost and the breakfast it was more than adequate for my needs. Extra blankets were provided and I slept very comfortably considering how cold it was outside.

The owners are very helpful. Gave us good restaurant recommendations and speak English, French and Spanish. Its a good budget option, other people have complained that the bathrooms are small and its a noisy place. Well the bathrooms are small, but they are clean and functional, its good quality considering how cheap the place is. It can be noisy, but nothing more then the norm in Mexico. Everywhere tends to be noisy in the morning in Mexico, so complaining about the noise seems to be redundant in reviewing this particular location. All in all, its a great place. Recommended for people that don't want to stay in the thick of tourist core. Helpful hosts!

Facilities ok, and affordable. However, the staff made us feel that we were demanding too much for arriving at 10:30 p.m. We called twice in the afternoon to no avail. We also left a message to coordinate our arrival. We got no response, yet, when we made it to the hostel, the staff person was rude, complaining about how late it was and that she was already sleeping.

Le Gite del Sol is a good option for people that are travelling with a small budget. In comparison to other hostels, I've found it cheap. The price includes the breakfast (which is good, they offer you several options). It is not as centric as other hostels, but in a short walk you are at the main street. Also you can book tours through them that are good quality and cheaper than other companies. My room was clean and I was lucky because the other people were quiet. Maybe a living room to share time with other travellers would have been nice!
