Tired, hungry, rain-soaked, dishevelled, jet-lagged, and NOT in a holiday mood, I arrived at Dos Playas. Within minutes, everything changed! First, I met Gustavo, a charming, handsome, young man who treated me as if I were royalty. He quickly checked me in then personally took me to my room. Gustavo carried my heavy suitcase up three steep flights of stairs to my large, comfortable room featuring a huge marble washroom and a pleasant balcony. Next, Gustavo escorted me to Las Iguanas. Talk about first class service! Soon I was seated at a nice table with a flute of sparkling wine and a big plate of delicious food. Rolando served me and encouraged me to sample more and more of the International and Mexican dishes. Thus began a week of comfort and luxury at this charming, small resort.
All the restaurants are good with many food choices: Cielito Lindo is an a la carte restaurant overlooking the beach; a snack bar is next to Cielito Lindo and delicious fast food is made to order. Las Iguanas is a buffet restaurant with different nightly themes and several stations for made-to-order food. Close to Las Iguanas, there is a sushi place with exceptionally good, freshly made Japanese food. This place doubles as the Thai restaurant in the evening. Finally, there is a wood-fired oven and an extensive pizza menu.
Servers, bartenders, chefs, and cooks are friendly and helpful. They learn guests’ names and preferences. They soon greeted me by name and with a perfect cappuccino or a flute of chilled champagne. The waiters are well trained: they carry plates in the buffet, anticipate needs for extra napkins or cutlery, and hold chairs for ladies. This is truly five-star service. I was also impressed by their energy, language skills, and good humour. Karen Lopez often had me laughing out of my chair and she claimed that her heart broke if I sat in another server’s area. Guadaloupe displayed Olde Worlde charm and a prodigious memory for guests’ preferences. I was amused by how adroitly he soothed a bickering couple who were tipsy and getting loud. Abner similarly dealt with genial but rowdy young men and Luis ensured that women were treated with respect. William was so funny with his “Welcome to Mexico” greeting with every drink and his feigned sadness when I once ordered vodka instead of tequila. Jorge served me expertly and I loved hearing about his beautiful little son, Santiago Mauricio. On my departure day, waiters hugged me and asked me to come back soon. So much warmth and kindness!
The landscaping on this property is delightful with extensive lawns, flowering shrubs, citrus trees, bamboo, palm trees, wandering peacocks, and an aviary with small, exotic birds. The hard-working gardeners all smile and greet guests at every encounter. There are tennis courts and five freshwater pools. It was a pleasure to meet Benito every morning as he cleaned around the main pool. Benito made me feel like royalty, too, even though I prefer swimming in the sea. The beach was wonderful! Silky white sand as soft as talcum powder edged the turquoise sea. For sunbathers, there were well-maintained beds. Andres is the jolly King of Towels for pool & beach; he dispenses wisdom, Spanish lessons, and jokes with every towel. Andres is a long-term employee at Dos Playas, and he knows everything about the resort.
The bright, air-conditioned gym has free weights, exercise bikes, an elliptical machine, Swedish balls, mats, and a tv, but my favourite activities were yoga on the lawn, Zumba on the pool deck, aqua-aerobics, and volleyball in the pool. The Animation Team works tirelessly to entertain and exercise the guests. Dresde, Elliot, Alexandra, Giovanni, Miguel, and Esteban are such fun! (If you do yoga with Giovanni, you might also get a fabulous back massage.)
The nightly entertainment is amazing, with five-star quality and variety. The Mexican Fiesta is colourful and fun; the Maya show is scary and impressive; the Musica Latina show includes dancing; the Mariachi show has terrific music; and the African Acrobats demonstrate incredible feats of strength and balance. The Comic show with the Animation Team is a highlight: Alexandra and Giovanni do an amusing Barbie & Ken routine, Alexandra performs an amazing acrobatic dance, sexy Dresde sings a torch song, Esteban (Senor Rosado) is a crowd-pleaser with risqué songs, and Elliot is a showstopper who sings like Bublé and moves like Jagger.
During my stay, the happy clientele comprised Central and South Americans, some Europeans, a few Canadians (mainly Francophones), and one American: an elegant, courteous young man from Houston, Texas. Ages ranged from toddlers to old folks. I met many amiable guests and I never heard complaints.
Many guests commented on the superb sanitation. The cleaners are diligent, and the housekeepers are outstanding. Pretty Angelika kept my room in perfect order and her lovely smile was a joy to see.
I highly recommend this resort. As a solo traveller, I was always comfortable and safe. When I called Reception, someone answered immediately and swiftly assisted me. The Reception team does fine work. Yeing, the manager, is polite, efficient, and leads by example. Adrian, Miranda, and Oscar are ready to help with transportation, excursions, etc. Josue takes excellent care of luggage. Daniel (distractingly handsome 😊), Rodrigo, Jorge, and Gustavo are the all-star team on the Front Desk. Everyone who works here seems genuinely caring. Of course, my favourite is Gustavo. From the moment I arrived, he went out of his way to ensure my enjoyment. When I was leaving, he surprised me again with a card decorated with a desiccated seahorse and a sweet personal message. I will return to Dos Playas!

If you are looking for a short getaway that includes foods and drinks and a relax ambiance, here you can find it.
Staff was extremely kind and helpful, very educated people that know about service. Chef Marco Luna and waitress Marlei did specialty dinner delicious and personal. Raul Campos, Brenda and Iván Ortega did everything to keep good food and drinks to us promptly. Ms. Fanny was kind and solve all our questions.
Rooms are renewed inside, very modern and clean.

Garbage outside restaurant Iguanas and Chinese food place, there were trash cans, but It seems that they are not empty every once in awhile.
Also there should be plastic barriers to prevent buffet food to be contaminated by people that breathes over the food (even when mask were mandatory in the premises, some guest are just selfish and careless).
Beach in that area is short, but it still very beautiful if you only want to get a short swim, not to deep as they are boats around.

So after reading previous reviews I was unsure what to expect. Firstly we we’re the only British couple there, mostly the couples/families are from Central/South American countries or from Russia. For us Brits we understand the Russian aspect and this follows through here. Yes they can be rude and don’t mix well, but again nothing new to Brits on Holiday. It is driven towards Russian and Latino holiday makers, but we didn’t mind at all. We found people to speak to and made friends. Hello Columbia 😂 ! If you ever go you will understand.
This hotel has almost two hotel’s in one a livelier and a quieter side. Do try to experience both and the same goes for food. The main hotel has the buffet, sushi bar and snack bar. The other side has a Mexican food to order style restaurant. All was good and fresh. The snack bar cooks seemed a little less interested and didn’t seem to want to help, but that was what we experienced.
The staff on the whole are amazing from the activities to just being friendly. The all inclusive is just that and yes the drinks were a little weak, but getting smashed wasn’t why we went. If you want it a little stronger have a tequila shot with your drink as it was strong!. The reception area was really nice, but this didn’t transition to the hotel rooms. I could go on but to say it’s a really good 3 star hotel from Greece as an example. Again can’t fault the staff who make the holiday, I would name staff but it was all the staff. On tipping yes it’s an American thing, but just remember the staff don’t get paid much and all tips are shared. We tipped 20 pesos about 5 times a day for room staff and bar/food staff. This is less than £5 per day and they really appreciate it and provide a higher service like bringing drinks to you at the pool or beach rather than going to the bar. It’s what we did, but you don’t have to. If you want to go it’s not the most amazing hotel, but it is a really good value for money hotel.

A brief disclaimer about this review: The reservation was made the same day as our visit so there is some leniency for a smooth reception and check-in. However, the overall experience was unacceptable, especially considering the concern for sanitation.

For the price range we were not expecting a Hilton type experience, but luxury is something one pays for, common decency should be free.

We were on the property about four hours total. We arrived before the 3pm check-in so were allowed to visit the pool and eat at the restaurants. Nothing we experienced was outstandingly positive or negative. The staff seemed attentive, the grounds were fairly maintained with the exception of an algae filled koi pond near the sushi "restaurant." The chef ran out of rice so we waited 45 minutes for two sushi rolls.

Close to 4pm we went back to reception to check in. We waited a short time and were showed to our room. When we arrived, a staff member was still "cleaning" the room. The young lady was flustered, had only a spray bottle, some rags and minimal cleaning supplies. After a few minutes she hurriedly left the room. We entered and found a litany of items uncleaned. Considering the situation we decided to cut our losses and promptly asked to speak with management and cancel our reservation.

The supervisor was pleasant and professional. She refunded the all-inclusive fee that we had paid directly to the hotel. She directed us to contact the booking agency for a refund of the reservation cost. There has been back and forth for over a week now, and the agency has finally closed the refund request without issuing a refund. They cited an inability to reach an agreement with Dos Playas and refused the request for refund. We feel scammed and would strongly discourage anyone from staying at this location.

Location of hotel is great. Right next to the beach with great views. About a $30 taxi ride from airport.

Hotel is older and could use some renovation however Staff is great and helpful and everyone is very courteous.

Food plan was good... about $20 USD per day pp and included BL&D along with drinks and alcohol . Restaurant had a good buffet selection of food everyday and there is also a pizza bar by the pool that makes nice hot pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs. It is included in the meal plan.
Drinks such as water, soft drinks or beer are not served in a can or bottle. They are poured from a liter bottle or from a tap.

There is a gift shop in the lobby that sells bottles of water, snacks and some souvenirs. Reasonable prices.

Hotel is located next door to a convenient store.. OXOX and restaurants in Tortuga Playa. Other than that, I believe you’d have to taxi it to the touristy part of Cancun.

Hotel grounds are well kept and there was fun music playing out by the large pool. There is a walk up bar there and Pls make sure to tip your bartender.

Air conditioning worked great in our room and there was good hot water in the shower. We went to Cancun strictly for diving so we didn’t we didn’t need much. Dive shop was located right down the steps from the small pool and this hotel was convenient.

Bed was comfortable however we were surprised that there was no mattress pad on either bed. There are two sheets and a good clean comforter. We did see an ugly stain on one of our mattresses.

Floors to room were very clean. No wash cloths were provided in the restroom so you’ll have to ask for them at the front desk. There are a few amenities... some shampoo n soap but no conditioner. Hot water worked good.

Overall, we paid a great rate for our room through a second party and would revisit this hotel in the future. Thank you for the kind hospitality.

As soon as we checked in the staff was nice, but we noticed a lot of people requesting a room change. We had a worker tell us to request a different room ASAP! We should’ve listened because within a couple days in our room we started getting bites all over our body.
Food: the food options weren’t too expansive, but we managed. Sometimes we’d have to stand and wait until someone was done eating so we could sit and eat. We made a reservation for one of their restaurants one day and arrived at 7:30 and all the lights were off. We asked an employee and they told us all reservations were canceled but no one told us or reached out about rescheduling.
Covid: Workers would make sure you had your mask on about 5 times out of 10. On my last day there I tested positive for covid. I have no idea If I contracted it there or not but when I found out I had no idea what I was going to do. I could no longer travel and was hoping the hotel would be helpful. Boy was I WRONG. They would not let me stay at the hotel because “we don’t have the budget to isolate people”. I was okay with that and was going to elsewhere but check in wasn't until 3. They wouldn’t let me wait outside, keep my luggage in their luggage room, or even use their transportation services. Mind you I am in a different country and can’t really call for help from anyone I know. They were extremely rude and cold and just kicked me out because I had covid.

We booked our trip last minute, so everything was done in a rush. As soon as we arrived (very early in the morning) Manuel at reception was wonderful. He allowed us to check in early and was so knowledgeable about the hotel, services and surrounding area.

All the staff greeted us warmly, remembered our names and provided great service.

We ate at the Mexican restaurant in the evening and were not disappointed. Our waiter, Axel, went beyond what he had to do. He spoke with chef Marco, and they organised a special vegetarian dish for me and my friend. The food was so good, we ended up asking for more! This was no problem to the staff, Brenda, Axel, Marco and Benjamin continued to ply us with fantastic wine and food until we could hardly move.

The staff here are so warm and sincere, I would definitely recommend for a great vacation- whether you want to scuba dive, party or simply relax in the sunshine- this place is for you, and it’s more budget friendly than many of the resorts in Cancun.

I wish I had taken the negative reviews more seriously. It was so bad we left after one night despite having paid for 2. I’ve cumulatively travelled for a couple years of my life and have never done that. Like other reviewers have said, the manager had no interest or concern with our dissatisfaction but did chase us to the street insisting our all inclusive bracelets be cut off, which left me with an even worse impression as we had paid to be there another night. The water park was closed/deflated with varying and difficult to obtain rationale. The beds are saggy and we didn’t have a balcony to escape the stuffiness. The water fountains had garbage piled in them. Public areas are dirty and in poor repair. Our bag was rifled through on the beach while we were in the water. We had trouble getting food at some places as certain staff seemed inclined to serve other Mexicans ahead of us; no matter how long we stood there it was like they couldn’t see us. The construction right now is loud. On the plus side our 12 year old loved the nighttime pool party and the peacocks were neat. In short, it’s way overpriced. We moved to the GR Solaris for $10 more a night each, and it was literally 10x nicer.

My daughter-in-law and I loved this hotel because it was all inclusive at a very reasonable price, and we felt safe there. There were 2 primary restaurants to choose from. We favored Cielito Lindo which was a little bit of a walk, however the staff here made us feel like family. Arturo and Jesus are our new favorite people in Cancun. There were multiple pools and plenty of lounge chairs around the pools and on the beach and other levels. There are 3 buildings, #1 is closest to the road and would not be my choice. Bldg. #2 has views of the grounds and pool, or tennis courts, and Bldg #3 offers land or ocean views. We opted to upgrade to a seaview room in Bldg. 3. The room was immaculate and the walk in shower had plenty of hot water. I would not recommend this place for anyone who has a mobility issue as it is not handicap friendly. Each building is 3-4 floors and there are no elevators. I think this place is a little hidden gem that those who visit will always choose to come back to. The menu at Cielito Lindo does not change otherwise we would eat there every night. The buffet offered at Iguanas Restaurant right in the center of the property changes daily and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want to travel to Isla Mujeres, which I highly recommend, the ferry is a 2 minute walk from your hotel. I would definitely go back here again.

As mentioned location is great and staff lovely but the downsides are food and the property is dated.

The beach is nice, one of the pools is nice but a little cold.

Food was not good at all, poor quality, poor choices. And sometimes restaurants clsoe at night but there is no indication of where to go eat that evening.

Rooms have poor sound proofing. And it would be nice to have in a room for 2 people, 2 hand towels and 2 large towels (one for hair and one for body)
