We didn’t do it but it is easy to do on your own. 20 minute walk along the beach will take you to the jetty where fast boats are taking passengers to the island on a regular basis. Other guests we spoke to said it was cheep and easy to use ferry’s and buses. We intend to return and do it next trip. Please let me know how you get on. Exciting.

My wife and I took our grandson (9 y/o at that time), with us to the Riu Palace Las Americas. This was 4 years ago. We asked at the reception desk if we could visit the Rius in Cancun. They told us that we could. Take your towel cards with you, if you want to use their pools. Just be sure that you get your cards back before leaving there. We had stayed at the Riu Cancun about 3 years earlier and wanted the grandson to see Cancun also. You can visit any of the Rius in Cancun, since you are staying at a Riu Palace. This as I said was about 4 years ago. It should be the same now, hopefully. You can also have lunch at the other Riu Hotels. We rode on the bus with the locals to Cancun. You can catch the bus at the terminal on 5th Ave. in Playa del Carmen. We felt safe riding on the bus with them. We had stayed in Cancun 12 times over the years, so we were familiar with what to do when we got to the Cancun bus terminal.
