It has been 5 years since we last visited yet the first words from staff we recognised as we left the coach and went to reception was welcome home. That is how we felt welcomed. The staff couldn't do enough for you. The facilities in the hotel are great from room cleaning to a 24 eat drink self service area. Food temperature is checked regularly and restocking of food/ drink happens on a regular basis. No reservations required in any of the restaurant. You can check food and drink options via the Rui app or get paper ones. Food choice is plentiful and tasty. My sister in laws birthday was celebrated with a cake and song from the staff at breakfast and dinner.. The hotel also sent cake to her room and thanks to Santiago and Ĵacquim tow of the best Maitre D's she had a full bottle of prosecco on ice delivered with a chocolate basket of chocolate coated strawberries. The Coffee bar provides an excellent stop off after lunch and dinner. As always service is with a smile from wake up to head down whether maid/conciege/ wait staff or Maitre D or Management. They are there to help you enjoy your holiday and the certainly did.

Another great holiday at the Riu Palace Mexico. As usual the staff were the best part, very helpful and attentive. Great waiter service at night in the buffet restaurant by Giancarlo and Raul. Josaphina at breakfast was a delight and Mary at lunch time the same. The food was always very good and presented beautifully, the chefs must work really hard to maintain such a high standard.
Unfortunately I have one complaint. There were two changing cubicles at the pool and we used these daily to change into dry swimsuits after being in the sea. Normally if something is not right I take it up with the hotel at the time and therefore I spoke to reception on the third day to ask if the changing cubicles could be cleaned as one of them was very dirty. Reception said this would be recorded. We left 11 days later and the same cubicle was still dirty, it had not been cleaned in 2 weeks. Reception staff need to take guests complaints seriously and not ignore them as it is small things like this that are important to maintain standards.
Apart from this one thing we had a wonderful holiday and I look forward to visiting again next February.

I am ordinarily a traveler that likes to stay in 'real' host country hotels so this glitzy deluxe hotel stay is unusual for me. I was super impressed by the amazing hospitality and staff - hard-working, fun, polite, tolerant, helpful, superb service overall. The resort was immaculate, the food beautifully presented, top quality and full of variety. The detail was also noticeable (milk in proper milk container, tea served in a tea pot) and pretty decoration on the breakfast tables. The room was also immaculate and there was nothing the staff did not do to make our stay very pleasant. The beach was cleaned everyday with drinks served around the clock all day. There was one thing that upset me. The all you can eat and all you can drink offer was unlimited and this meant that at about 5pm onwards, the wheel chairs were brought out to take unconscious / blindly drunk clients back to their rooms. In the four days we stayed, I witnessed 3 incidents of this nature. I would advise the managers to allow the staff serving the drinks to have the right to say NO to serving more alcohol to some of their clients who have well passed their alcohol limit, especially at this time of Covid when responsibility of action is even more poignant.Otherwise, I was impressed with the management and enjoyed our visit.

We decided to spend 5 days at this hotel.

The food was pretty decent compared to the previous 5 star hotel we were at previously. I would say that the constant birds going by the buffett and trying to eat the food was a bit alarming for us.

The staff members are wonderful all around from the Chef's to the entertainment by the pool to the front desk.

Our issues (yes in my 30's) but i have knee issues so the up and down the stairs was alot. The resort is pretty long so if you are in room 1050...prepare to walk a bit to the front desk (where the restaurants are located)

The A/C doesn't really blow cold air but the fan makes up for it. Our tub had some green slime or whatever but we never used it.

Again the customer service was superb. The beach was beautiful.

Covid - The were checking temperatures and you had to wear a mask when entering restaurants but at times once in some people forget to put their mask back on when getting their food. I would suggest serving people instead of guest touching al the spoons and forks to get food

Dear Kim, Your loyalty is important to us! We love welcoming our Riu Class members and are grateful that you shared your recent experience at the Hotel Riu Palace Mexico. It is great to know that our team made such a positive impact. Yes, our staff will always go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. The birds issue is genuine but also expected in a tropical place like ours were according to Birdlife International, over 1,000 bird species live in Mexico, which is more than 10 per cent of the world´s bird population. We do our best to avoid their presence in our outdoor restaurant and we truly hope you can understand that it is very difficult to achieve this in open areas. You can be assured that we have taken notice of the described positive and negative points. As you might know, your feedback is essential to us and we truly take to heart any issue that may have a negative impact on a guest experience. Please allow us the opportunity of welcoming you back to our hotel in order to provide a more memorable experience. With our best wishes we remain, Hotel Riu Palace Mexico Online Reputation Manager

I’ve been to Mexico seven times, always staying at an all inclusive resort. After an extremely rough and stressful April, I decided to book a solo trip and chose this resort for some R&R based on the reviews. I was looking forward to 24 hour room service and breakfast in bed, however there is NO ROOM SERVICE due to Covid? Is it not safer to eat alone? room service was one of the major deciding factors in choosing a hotel, so I was disappointed to say the least.

Hotel is practically empty. Several restaurants and bars are closed on different days. The food and drinks were not enjoyable. The drinks were made with sugary, fake mixes. The food selection was limited if you don’t eat seafood or pork. Under items were often empty and not re-filled quickly enough. Wait staff is friendly, but front desk staff was not able to assist me with most of my requests.

I arrived early and was able to check into my room early, which was great. My room was outdated. My TV is very fuzzy and has lines through it. The safe battery was dead. My refrigerator was warm, but it got cold as the day progressed so they must’ve just turned it on. My charger kept falling out of every single outlet in the room. I guess they are old and loose. There’s no blanket or covering on the bed. The room was on the ground floor and smelled like mold, as was a complaint I read about in other reviews. You would think with so much vacancy they would put me in a better room.

I booked a energy healing massage. What I received was a hard, rough and fast rub for $160. I specifically told the woman not to touch my head, as I did not want oil in my hair that I just had styled. She proceeded to oil my entire face and head.

I have stayed next-door at the Wyndham Viva Maya, which is less expensive, but has better rooms, amenities, better food by far and better entertainment. I decided to try this place based on better reviews. I’m definitely disappointed and would never stay here again. So much for R&R!

Dear Aly, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. Entertainment:
We enjoyed the fun activities including yoga, water aerobics, games, silent disco, night shows, foam party, mexican night and Neon party at Riu Tequilla.

I'd like to give an excellent feedback to the following:

Pablo who hosted the dart game, bingo and the kitchen tour. He provided a very informative and enjoyable kitchen tour.

Ana and Joe for an excellent yoga and water aerobics sessions.

Kanesha and Arely and Rafa for being so entertaining when we joined the silent disco. They were also accommodating and very friendly to us during our stay. We felt like we're at home because of their presence.

Rafa for being a great host and to Alejandra, Ali, other entertainment staff whom I didn't get their names (Sorry about that).

Food:
I loved the buffet at Don Julian and Guacamole. I enjoyed the BBQs at Pepe's Grill. I loved the Gala night at Don Julian which they served lobsters. I've never had that many lobsters in my life in one meal!

Servers/Waiters:
I'd like to mention the following servers: Mary at Don Julian and Guacamole, Angel, Amriel, Daniel, Francisco, Leonardo, Luis, and other waiters whom I didn't get their names. Special mention to the cook at Pepe's Grill - the BBQs were perfectly cooked.

Room cleaners/room bar stocker:
Yessica and Crisanto who provided an excellent cleaning services to our room (Room 1109) and the fellow who always made sure our room fridge are stocked with water and soda.

To Riu Palace Mexico: take good care of your staff as they are all a gem and asset to your resort. They work so hard to make your guests happy and have a great vacation. Even though they are tired, they still put a smile on their faces to make us feel welcome. They are one of the reasons why we will come back to RPM.

Also, please update your public washrooms and keep it more clean. We've been to other resorts and their washrooms are very updated, well maintained and the cleanliness is top notch. Some of your facilities needs to be maintained too and give a good cleaning - an example is the whirpool/jacuzzi area behind the Renova Spa, I looked up at the celing and the panel for light is rusted.

Overall, we had a fantastic time at RPM and hope to see some changes to the public washrooms when we come back.

The Riu Palace is an upscale all-inclusive in the Playacar area of Playa del Carmen. We also stayed at the Riu Tequila across the street and this hotel is much nice in many regards, but also more expensive. The hotel is right on the beach, which is very nice. The beach here is very wide with an area shaded by palm trees, which is where they put the beach loungers. There are plenty of loungers, so it was easy to find place. There are servers coming by regularly to serve drinks and take drink order. You can also get a spot by the pool, but the beach area is so nice and the pool area is more crowded. You can borrow a kayak for free if you want to get some exercise out on the water and they also have small sail boats. If you know how to sail, you just borrow the boat, otherwise you can pay for someone to take you out or for a lesson.

Staying at the Palace gets you restaurant privileges (except for breakfast) at any of the other Riu resorts in Playacar. However, we were only there for 5 days and we were able to eat at a different restaurant each night. If you look at the restaurants at the other hotels, you will see that they generally have the same restaurants, just with a different name. For example, Miyagi is the Japanese restaurant at this hotel, and Yashima is the Japanese restaurant at the other Palace hotel (menus are almost identical). I suppose that if you want to see the main evening entertainment at another hotel, eating there might be a good idea. You can’t make reservations, so if they get busy, you may get put on a list and get a beeper. Overall, the dinners were uniformly very good and the service was also very good. Since we were there during COVID, the greeters at each restaurant and buffet were ready with hand sanitizer at all times. Staff were masked at all times, and guests were asked to mask up in restaurants, or at the bar (even outside).

Alcohol is freely-flowing, with liquor dispensers in the room, plus beer and soft drinks. If you run out, it will be restocked with a phone call. Drinks at the pool bar are quite good and the pool snack bar allows you to get a “lunch” without leaving the pool area. They have an umbrella in the room in case there is a possibility of rain, but we were lucky to not require it during our stay. This hotel doesn’t have room service, but they do have a 24-hour lounge if you need food or drinks overnight.

In summary, we highly recommend Riu Palace Mexico. The beach is great, food and drinks are excellent, and the service is also excellent.

We have just returned from a wonderful week here. The hotel is worthy of its 5 star rating and I have to disagree with the negative review recently posted. We only saw exceptional attention to health and hygiene in all areas of this hotel. Hand gels were provided at every restaurant. Although sadly some guests felt this didn't apply to them and did not use them. Children in particular. The lunchtime buffet met all health and safety requirements with regard to temperature control and stations were carefully monitored by the wonderfully attentive staff. The house keeping was also of a very high standard and we always came back to a very clean room. Every single member of staff we spoke to was polite and could not do enough for you. In particular I would like to mention Abraham who was such an attentive waiter who met us each morning with a smile and made our stay extra special. We will be returning.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 weeks in November 2019 for 2 weeks and lived up to all expectations. The hotel has a real luxury feel to it, rooms were lovely with gorgeous views over the immaculate gardens, whirlpool bath and comfy beds. Food is available 24/7 with so much choice from the buffet restaurant to other themed restaurants, our personal favourites were the Mexican, steakhouse and Italian. The only downfall and something to note for other travellers is the hotel has a fairly strict policy on dress code for men when entering certain restraunts, men have to be wearing long trousers. Unfortunately my boyfriend had only packed shorts for this holiday as he didn’t think he would have to wear long pants in 30 degree heat! So we were refused entry at certain restaurants in the hotel. Despite this we still loved the hotel, amazing pool area with views on to its own private beach we’re just incredible. All the staff catered to everyone’s needs and nothing was too much trouble, excellent service throughout. I would highly recommend this hotel and would love to return one day! Thank you.

Dear Amy, Thank you very much for your comment and the highest rating! We are delighted that our hospitality, accommodation and gastronomy have exceeded your expectations. Our Palace brand hotels represent our more sophisticated collection of hotels and as you described correctly, we have a Dress Code for dinner which prescribes that no sleeveless T-shirts and short pants may be worn, but casual chic or elegant clothes and appropriate footwear. During lunch, we kindly ask our guests not to wear wet clothes in the restaurants or bathing gear. We are sorry for any inconvenience. It has been an honor to serve you and we look forward to the next opportunity to pamper you. With kind regards Hotel Riu Palace Mexico Online Reputation Manager

There are plenty of good things about this well run hotel. It is spotlessly clean and the service is consistently of a very high standard. The food options are the best I have encountered on an all inclusive and I would think someone would have to be extremely fussy if they found nothing to enjoy. The reception staff are excellent and always courteous and the hotel is well located if you feel like a stroll along a nice tree lined route into playa del carmen. The rooms are spacious but definitely dated and having much of the bathroom attached to the bedroom didn’t much help with ventilation. Most nights we slept with the patio door open and and the netted screen door closed only to let air circulate. I never saw a single crawly creature the whole time I was there. The beach was lovely but difficult to get in and out of the water sometimes if the waves were high and there is a bit of a sand shelf to navigate. Trip to the loo from the beach is a bit of a trek back up a couple of short flights of stairs, across the pool area and round the back of a restaurant.
However, the reason I would not return here is due to the noise. All four pools are centred around a bar and they are each within yards of each other. There is either the constant thump of music or public address announcements from the friendly and energetic animations team. Our room was also near reception and equally noisy due to the location of the evening entertainment but that didn’t bother us so much as it finished at 11 and that wasn’t a big issue for us.
I am well travelled and have stayed in several hotels of this class before. When we saw that the Riu Palace had four pools we assumed (wrongly) that there would be an adult quiet pool. I’m not against kids and noise at all (been there, done that) but when we go on holiday it is to get away from the daily grind, chill out and slip into a nice cool, quiet pool when we feel like it, read a book and have peace for a while. I’ve never worn my air pods so much.
If noise doesn’t bother you then I would say this is a great hotel. If you’re after peace and quiet, maybe not.
