Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have stayed at the Sunset properties in Cancun; this was our first time in PDC. This is a smaller property, which we love. Very nice, quiet resort. The beach was very nice, somewhat limited beach and pool chairs (early bird gets the worm!). The location of this property is closer to the end before the ferry pier which I loved; it's kind of tucked away from the much larger and busier resorts further down. We were AI; the food we thought was excellent. The lunch menu has a very good variety; dinner menus changed daily. Breakfast was pretty typical of resort buffet, but very good and presentation of all meals were excellent. One bar near the beach, sometimes leaving a longer wait, but the staff works their butts off. Our room was great, very clean and spacious. We somehow ended up with a 2 BR; (only my husband and I) and this would have been a dream with our family. We were on the 3rd floor, so lots of stairs so if mobility issues be aware. We had probably the best mattress I've had anywhere in Mexico! There was entertainment one evening during our week in the lobby which was very good, but would love to see more! We are not night life people so we were fine, and there seems to be plenty to offer off property close by. We missed having any background music during dinner (not live just music). All of the staff were great! Overall seemed to be an older/adult population of guests; however upon our last day more families with young children were coming in. Definitely not a 18-20 something spring break property! Which is good for us!

Beautiful small resort that provides a personal experience for many. Rooms are not very sound proof … which hindered our sleep most nights. Food was average. Staff was terrific. A great stay with an incredible view from most rooms.

Overall another great experience. Food, with exception of amazing breakfast buffet, is not great. It’s very bland, which is surprising. The servers are great and always do their very best to serve not so great dinner meals. Out seven dinners, we probably had one dinner that was good, not great. We meet new guests down here every year and have a great time hanging out and trying new restaurants in town. The location is fantastic, so close to the water. Not matter what room we get, we always have a great view of the ocean. The long term staff is always great and remembers us every time we come.

I love staying at Fisherman’s! Excellent location, beach front hotel ! Friendly staff! Marcial will welcome you at entrance with a big smile! Michelle will go over and beyond to make sure your accommodations will meet your expectations and needs, Olivia and other staff in house keeping is always friendly and work hard to make sure after a day at the pool you come back to your suite to a clean and tidy room with an adorable towel animal on your bed. The activity girls always keep you active with fun activities. I can’t say anything bad about this fabulous hotel!

Fisherman’s is not a huge resort which gives it a private feel. The facilities are impeccable. The food excellent. Staff friendly. It’s also just a 10 minute walk to Playa del Carmen shopping and restaurants.

Sunset Fisherman is a beautiful resort with amazing views. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We had an issue with check in staff that Michelle took care of immediately when she became aware of the issue. We were there when the weather was in the low 80s so the pool was pretty chilly. My biggest disappointment was the jacuzzi is TOO cold. They need to at least slightly warm the water. We’ve visited Sunset for over 15 years and looked forward to spending time in the “cool “ hot tub. We only were in it for 10 minutes on our two week visit this year. No one else was using it either. Big shout out to some of the exceptional staff - Dani and Suzie doing all sorts of fun resort activities. Marcel at the entrance who goes above and beyond for each and every guest. Valerie at the desk is amazing. She’s quite professional and helpful. One other notable thing is that we got a lot more complimentary perks before the increased prices on food and drinks and the expensive resort fees.

Their front desk at check in is a huge frustration. Most of the people act like they have never checked anyone in before. We had a snafu with our reservation, their mistake not ours, ( they did rectify the next day) but the person at their front would make no effort to see what the issue was. It could have been fixed by making a call but they couldn't be bothered. Also their outdoor jacuzzi heater broke , the water is freezing & have no intention of fixing it. As a result no one uses. For the last 15 yrs it was our favorite thing to sit in.

Other than relaxing in the sun, our favorite part of the day was eating at La Terraza and El Pescator. Our lunches and dinners from Chef Lucio were fantastic. The waiters: Rigoberto, Guillermo, Genaro, and Raul were friendly and attentive. We would absolutely go back!!

We wanted to thank all the wait and hotel staff for making our one week staff delightful. Everyone was helpful, attentive and even on occasions anticipating our needs but Gulliermo who we got to know well stood out. Some areas that can be improved that would like to point out: extra thick pillow should be an option which using as a 'dutch wife' a little challenging. The resort although cozy tends to be a little crowded especially when during a sunny day.
