Ahau Tulum by Ahau Collection is often praised for its stunning rooms with ocean views, although a few guests have noted cleanliness and space as drawbacks. While the hotel's value is occasionally questioned due to the high cost of services and food, cleanliness standards, including well-maintained rooms and beaches, generally impress visitors. The amenities, such as on-site dining, yoga, and beach services, along with the attentive staff, contribute to a luxurious experience. Despite some noise complaints, the lively atmosphere and ideal location near the beach and local attractions remain highlights for many travelers.

Incredible trip again! We came to Ahau for the first time in October of 2022. We loved it so much we booked again on the first trip to come back. You get a past guest discount if you come back. We just finished our February 2023 trip and it was absolutely incredible! We love Ahau so very much, and all the staff that works there Tanet at the front desk is amazing and so very helpful. The restaurant and bar staff is amazing. Berna and Benjamin are awesome! We booked a massage this time and it was absolutely incredible! Julieta was our massage therapist and she is hands down the best EVER! Can’t wait to come back again!

We stayed at 2 dif hotels during our trip to Tulum and we wished we Could start over and have stayed at the Ahau the whole time. From the moment you arrive they kindly greet you. Someone will show you all the way to the check in area. They warmly greet you and introduce themselves. Checking in is comfortable and detailed while you’re sitting and having your welcome beverage. After check in is complete they will walk you to where you’re staying while telling you what’s what and where is where. Then they take you into the room and show tour the room with you explaining everything. They give you a WhatsApp number to contact them at anytime for any reason. What’s best about the WhatsApp communication is you can tell them when you wake up and would like your complimentary coffee and bakery items brought right to your room! We stayed on the top level of a Bali Hut (room 20). Yes, it is small.. but it’s the cheapest option. (are you there to hang out in the room or relax at the beach and explore?) The shower, toilet, and sink area is probably bigger than the area to sleep. The bed is comfortable and the mosquito net works well. There is ample room for luggage between the toilet and bed area. It’s actually quite a nice space for the luggage to stay out of the way. Service is sincere and impeccable, above and beyond without feeling like it’s just for a tip. In fact, they don’t even wait or pretend to fumble until you tip so have it ready at hand if you are planning to (which you should for any service someone does for you). The beach was clean. The seats, cabanas with shade were comfortable and clean. Every seat has a table near to rest your beach items, food or drink. A waiter will serve you right to your seat so don’t have to move and can relax and work on your tan. Check out was smooth and detailed as well. Also, offered a discount if we ever decide to return (we definitely will!).

We stayed in one of the beach front rooms with our two toddlers and were blown away from the second we stepped on the property. The room was flawless and so close to the beach that we did not even use the beach chairs most days. We were more than comfortable in the space and appreciated the indoor and outdoor showers as well as the large deck which made it easy for in-room dining and shaded beachfront naps for the children. The restaurant was excellent with the incredibly prompt beach bartenders. As for the beach, it was spectacular with (thankfully) no seaweed, unbelievable sunrises, and we were fortunate enough to witness dozens of baby sea turtles hatching at the base of our deck one evening. We loved Ahau’s staff, dedication to the environment and sustainability (no plastic, thoughtful stainless steel/paper toiletry packaging, etc.), as well as the perfect location and property and would eagerly return in a heartbeat!

We spent 4 nights of our 8 night stay in Tulum at this property. The location of this property and view from the ocean view palapa was absolutely stunning. The room includes a full screen that spans the entire width of the sliding doors so we were able to sleep each evening with the doors open with no fear of mosquitoes or other biting insects. Hearing the ocean all night was amazing. The beach was in excellent condition and beautiful.

The bed slept very comfortably.

The room photographs well and I expected rustic, but the most appropriate word I could use to describe it would be grimy. Numerous stains all over the walls and I tried to avoid looking closely at anything especially corners, crevices, or the shower as a whole. There was no hot water for the sink and on at least 2 days of our stay the water pressure was so low it was a trickle. Fortunately there is very hot water in the shower at least. The toilet only flushed upon occasion.

I was aware of this in advance but will mention it in case others are not, the AC cannot be turned on prior to 7pm. Again this was not an issue for us but an FYI for others.

We chose to have breakfast at the resort on one occasion only because breakfast was served cold and service was indifferent. Tacos and drinks on the beach were relatively good.

A primary motivation for booking this property was access to the beach and the beach/ocean was spectacular. If that is your sole criteria this is an excellent choice.

Hola! We are glad to know that you enjoyed the room and bed during your stay and we apologize because the water pressure was not what you expected as it should be much better as you mentioned, we already checked this room and the issue was solved as well as the hot water in the sink, however, it would be better to know this during your stay as we can work on fix the situation on site and right away, the air conditioner is turned on at 7:00 pm because energy saving purposes but if any guest asks about been turned on at any other time we turned on and we did not have a request from you during your stay. We thank you for the important annotations that you mentioned in your review because this helps us to improve and work to be better every day, we hope you can offer us a second chance to stay with us in another visit as we will do anything to improve your experience for sure! Nely our server was amazing. She made the experience so worth it. A definite win in my books. It was $50 a person that included a bed and shade and towels. The cost went towards food and drinks. She was very attentive. There was no seaweed as they have a crew raking it up. Music at the bar. Restroom was clean and food was amazing.

Ahau has a really cool outdoor set up. The main building is really beautiful with a sculptural wall, antique rugs and lounging couches. The restaurant and service are fantastic. Beach area has a really cool vibe and they keep up with clearing the sargassum each day. Sit in Reyes section at the beach and he will take care of everything you need! The only negative is the rooms are not on par with the rooms at other hotels in this price point. They are more similar to the ocean front rooms we’ve stayed at Tulum hotels for $300/night. The rooms are smaller than they look in the picture ( not even enough room/storage for 2 people to unpack) and the ac is only on during limited hours and never really gets that cold. Probably fine in December, but a bummer in July. The rooms are fine, but since we splurged and paid $700/night, I was kinda disappointed when I walked in. Also, not really Ahau’s fault but electronic dance music was playing til 3-5 in the morning from the next door beach clubs, so if you don’t like EMD and want a quiet retreat, this may not be the place for you. Overall we still had an enjoyable stay. The staff is really friendly, great food and the main areas are beautiful!

We have come back again for the 4th year in a row. We simply love Ahau. The rooms, the food, the land, the yoga, and above all the the people and hospitality. Our sincerest thanks to front desk Fernanda, Javier & Leo, to the yoga teachers, Eli, Gloria & Abril, to the hard-working, kind and caring servers, Alejandro, Jacob (Johnny), Luis, David (and so many more who I see their face but can't remember names) to our hosts and hostesses, Edith, Mattaes, Juan Carlos. To Sonny & Virginia at Raw Love. It truly feels like home here. I also want to thank all the cooks and bartenders for their food and drink creations. I think the food & cocktails are getting even better. The generous fruit plates, delicious juices and smoothies, addicting ceviches, tacos, salsa verde and pancakes. We typically order fresh coconuts each morning to the room and even when I forgot to message them the night before, they brought them anyway. All the servers were wonderful about customizing my orders for dietary restrictions. All together you create magic, you create home!!! It is a peaceful and caring stay that I have never experienced in all of my travels. Our sincerest thanks to everyone seen and unseen that makes this happen.

I came here for a wedding and booked our room back in 2020. Unfortunately, you know how the story goes and had to re-book for 2021 and again in May 2022. Since then, their prices and room configurations have changed since then (understandable), although it was a bit annoying that they didn't refund our $$$ but instead, kept it as credit.
We decided to go with their recommendation for a shuttle and I DO NOT recommend it! The shuttle was not long late, the driver was SO lost, stopped twice to ask for directions, and cost $140. Go with another shuttle service or just hire a taxi! I had to show my Google maps to the driver, it was BAD.
Upon check in, we had to wait almost an hour. Javier (?) was very nice but we didn't understand why it took 30 mins to check each couple in. It seemed like they were understaffed as each employee kept interrupting him and asking questions. Also, they're supposed to add you on WhatsApp and of course, no one did that until we asked them to the next day. If you want coffee (it is delicious), you simply text them on WhatsApp and someone will deliver it to your room.
We also got sick along the trip and we are not sure if it's the food or water (do they use filtered water for ice cubes?). I understand many hotels are understaffed but we paid good money and I expect a certain level of service.

We first visited Ahau last year when we went to their Raw Love Cafe and decided to stay there next time we visited Tulum.
We were so glad that we stayed at Ahau and we will definitely be back. We stayed in an Junior Suite Ocean Front upper level. It was so lovely and looked right out over the beach, with a decent sized balcony and hammock. At first we booked via the website and was advised we had been assigned 2 queen beds which was not ideal for our anniversary trip- so note to book via phone if you have a special request as email communication was not very timely.
Next time we might get a lower level ocean front suite so you have easier access to just walk out into the ocean when you please, but the balcony on the upper levels are so nice!
My favorite part other than having the Raw Love Cafe just steps away were the animals on the property. Nacho and Bandita were always around for snuggles if you are missing your pets at home.
I took Eli’s yoga class one morning and it was absolute heaven doing yoga with the ocean view in front. The class involved Meditation, breath work, flows and some singing bowls and aromatherapy at the end. One of my favorite yoga experiences, thank you Eli!
I wish there were a few more Vegan options at the lobby restaurant so that we didn’t have to leave every night for dinner, but there were places walking distance away for vegan dinner options.
We also had massages onsite, Stephanie and Julia did an amazing job!
Thanks so much for a lovely experience I can’t wait to get back.

Have been frequenting the beach here a while.. whilst there are many resorts, the staff at ahau makes special attention so that you feel you are home. Entering the property, the security is very friendly, then you meet Edith (who i think never has a day off) and her friendly face helps you whether you’re just having. Lunch or need a bed on the beach! Beach staff attentive and the minimum spend is very reasonable!

Would recommend this to all my friends (and i do) enjoy yourself at ahau’ and make sure to try the shrimp tacos!!

Not sure if the Jr Suite is different from the "palapa" although the website does call it a palapa. I think it's just describing the thatch roofs which unless you are on the bottom of a two story setup, all the rooms have the vaulted rooms. I know our room (Jr. Suite) had a King and was pretty close to the entrance where the maintenance area was. We didn't experience anything negative because of that though. Hope this helps.

Hi, there are room ACs in all of the rooms. They shut them down if you leave them on when you leave the room, other that that you control the AC as you wish. Yes, there were outlets in the room. I don't remember how many but we definitely had them. Bathrooms are not shared plus there are additional bathrooms by the lobby. Hope this helped. Have fun!
