Been coming down to tulum for years now and done it a few ways. I keep coming back to posada Luna del Sur because it really has everything you need in the perfect location. Nestled in tulum pueblo you are close to the nightlife, great authentic food and the beautiful vibrant local community. Such a magical spot.

I will be back in the spring! Why not? Breakfasts are great! 24hr security, wifi, parking amazing management and ownership to cater to all your needs. I will only come back to stay here!

Thank you posada Luna del Sur! Really a home away from home!

This hotel is definitely a gem on the outer edge of Tulum. We say outer edge cause we didn't travel any farther South than Posada Luna del Sur. We didn't need to. The hotel is convenient to experiencing the culture that a real Mayan city has to offer. The rooms are clean, and have a tropical flair to them. The balcony is great too. We felt very safe staying here.

When we arrived on Feb 17, Janet greeted us personally and gave us a map of Tulum and told us where to find a good spot on the beach and which cenotes to see, as well as good advice on restaurants in the town. There are fabulous restaurants along the main road, and some of the best margarita's i've ever had at Don Cafeto's.

Unfortunately I arrived without my luggage, however Janet immediately offered us her home telephone to call the airlines. She made every attempt to make sure that I got it back and left several messages for the airlines. Turns out it traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City and finally Cancun before I got it over one day later.

If you're looking for Mayan culture in a town away from the Little USA of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, definitely visit Tulum and stay at the Posada Luna del Sur.

Thanks again Janet! We look forward to visiting Tulum again!

Posada Luna Del Sur is an oasis in the town of Tulum. This beautiful, clean and well-maintained hotel is the best option in town. Janet, the owner, is friendly and extremely helpful with suggestions for restaurants and activities, and she is available for anything else you might need. She makes you feel like a guest in her home, not a client, and this enhances the experience greatly. This hotel offers amenities that you will not find in other places in Tulum like air conditioning, a refrigerator and cable TV. While other hotels in the area were doubling or tripling their prices for the New Years busy season, Janet only raised her nightly price from $45 to $60. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. We will definitely return to Posada Luna del Sur.

Our stay at "Posada Luna del Sur" was very agreeable.
This wonderful little hotel is really "A home away from home".
Everything is clean, confortable and it is a very secure place.
You will find all what you need in the room and functional.
Last but not least, Janet is a great hostess and ready
to give all practical informations like the best place to go
on the "playa", where to take the bus if you are not using
a car, the best restaurant for breakfast or "para cenar", etc.
It is, for sure, the place I will stay on my next visit to Tulum.

We stayed with Janet in February of this year. If you are looking for a spotless, well equipped, comfortable room at a great price it is the place to stay. Walk to town and all of the restaurants in 2 minutes, the beaches are about 10 minutes away by car. We will go back.

We loved it here. Janet, the proprieter was one of the most accomodating hosts we've ever encountered. We requested 4 nights a couple of months ahead of time. When our plans changed, she had to do some maneuvering, but was able to get us a room for a different week. We missed our flight coming in, and wanted to change our reservation from 4 nights to three nights. She had no problem with this. The room (and shower!) were spacious and we enjoyed sitting in the peaceful garden. Janet responded to our requests right away, and seeing her at Don Cafeto's restaurant was like bumping into a friend in town. We felt so welcomed, next time in Tulum we will definitely be staying here.

What a great find. The hotel is a small owner operated oasis in the town of Tulum. Janet (the owner) was instrumental to our trips success. Her suggestions & local knowlegde enabled us to explore many tourist & non-tourist attractions. Be sure to ask her about local places to eat.
The accomidations are inviting, quite, clean, comfortable & have the feel of returning home after exploring or laying on the beach each day.
If you are an explorer & desire to leave to beatiful beaches we recommend that you rent a car. Do so on line before you go as it is much cheaper than upon arrival(Advantage Car Rental were also excellent).
Go & enjoy.

I just spent six days in Tulum and kept a room at Posada Luna del Sur and an inexpensive, "rustic" cabana on the beach. Slept at Luna del Sur on the hot nights and showered in its softer water as the cabana lacked electricity and used hard cenote water. The Posada Luna del Sur rooms are quite large and spotlessly clean. Janet helped me find the open laundry and the better restaurants in Tulum.

Janet's place is a stone's throw from Tulum's main strip but in a quiet spot away from any noise. We had a lovely room, nicely decorated, with kitchen and fridge. Far better value for money than any of the beach front properties! Staying in town also gives you the option to eat in many of the great value restaurants (beach restaurants are much more expensive and you haven't as much choice). Janet will recommend plenty of places to you but we had some great meals and a laugh at Don Karote at the bottom end of the strip.
My only suggestion to Janet would be to put some basic kitchen equipment in the room so that people could self cater if they wanted to. We would have liked to have occassionally had breakfast in the room but without a kettle, cups, cutlery or plates it was a bit difficult! Glasses and a bottle opener would have been useful too!
Overall though, very nice place to stay. The TV and fridge were great and the room was always spotless when we returned. Janet is very helpful, speaks good English and keeps the place secure. Highly recommended.

My girlfriend and I visited Mexico and Tulum for the very first time in late August 2005. At first, we wanted to try staying in one of the low-key cabanas but we were a bit worried as to how hot it would get. As it was our first visit to Mexico we didn’t know if the heat and humidity would be too much for us at night. So, we made the following plan, we booked two nights at Posada Luna Del Sur, then two nights at La Conchita (and then, actually, we left a 5th night unbooked to play it by ear).

Well, Posada Luna Del Sur was a real gem. As a matter of fact we ended up going back to Luna Del Sur for our 5th night! The hotel is located at the end of the main road in Tulum, just a 5-minute walk to the bus depot of Tulum. Janet, the hotel owner, is very friendly and will give you plenty of information if you are not familiar with the area. We stayed in room #5 (on the ground floor) for our first two nights, and in room #6 (on the first floor -- or, second floor if you are an American) for our last night. Both rooms were very spacious and bright and with comfortable king size beds, and clean. They have an air-conditioner and two ceiling fans (one above the bed) so you can control the airflow. (The air-conditioner is located high up so it is either on or off (you can’t really control its knobs.)

In order to get around we had rented a car for a couple of days but for the other days we would walk over to the taxi stand and grab a taxi to get to the beach (around US$3.50 for the beach at Paraiso, for example).

Crisante, the maid at Luna Del Sur, is very-very sweet and she does a great job cleaning every day.

At night, the hotel is nice and quiet.

Overall, Luna Del Sur is a fantastic deal.
