Super chill hostel for solo travelers or groups close to downtown. Has everything you need: bike rental, lockers, luggage storage, kitchen, privacy curtains - and delicious home cooked breakfast every morning. Laid back, friendly atmosphere.

Really chill place with nice tropical hippie vibe. Very well located. Close to colectivo base and central road. Our room for 4 people was with an air conditioner, so it was very comfortable. Kitchen is spacious and has all utilities. Owners are beautiful people. Breakfast prepared by Teresa are delicious, coffee was really good. In hostel are two beautiful cats and two dogs. cutest creatures ever!:) the only thing we didn’t have hot water. but the rest was spotless :)

I’ll make this brief. If you are a racist and on a budget then this is the place for you.

If your not - keep reading. On my checkout day I was seated at the kitchen table preparing to leave and about an hour later, still within the 11:00 checkout timeframe, I said Adios! to the owner and headed to the bus station.

I was maybe 3 steps from the hostel when the owner came out, started yelling and accused me of stealing $400 pesos from her bag. What!? She said that I was the only one in the kitchen and told me to give back the money that I stole from her. I calmly assured her that I didn’t take any money from her and also had proof of payment for my entire stay.

After she finished yelling and finally called one of her volunteers to translate she went back to the kitchen - only to realize SHE HAD THE MONEY ALL ALONG.

My entire time here she was unwelcoming. I checked out when I did because I suspected she was racist, but full proof came today.

I understand and write Spanish better than I speak Spanish and many times she referred to me in derogatory terms along with one of her other volunteers - often starting with “El Negra” and followed by a slew of derogatory references.

I even listened as one of her volunteers had a full on conversation with his friends where he referred to me as “Ok - but she’s black” ... as if I need an opinion from someone that works at Tulum's premiere trash motel.

The owner is cheap and every aspect of this pace shows it from the breakfast to the broken fans in the dorms.

DO NOT STAY HERE - ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR.

There’s not even signage outside, like a speak-easy.

Great for backpackers and under-30’s. Spontaneous parties.

Really, really nice team really making every effort to help out where they can, but a bit too relaxed perhaps for some people.

It’s a cute and calm hostel with a some nice staff. They are accommodating and willing to help. The 8bed dorm was a bit tiny but was ok, the ensuite toilet a bit hot, but there are other toilets. There is no air-con but we had private fans. The biggest plus is the breakfast prepared with love. It’s a quiet place what we liked. It’s a few blocks from the main street. They have also bikes to rent. Would recommend it for quiet seekers.

It's run by a mexican family and you actually get to meet people there because it's little and cozy. Overall, it has an amazing vibe and one of the best breakfasts I had in a hostel. I got sick in Tulum so I had to stay there for one month. Maybe it was because the high season, but it felt more like a Party Inn than a Chill Inn. So I would highly recommend it to backpackers really eager to make new friends and have fun (I met beautiful human beings here), but not so much to travelers looking for silence and really peaceful stay. But again, maybe it was the High Season :) still, they respect sleep hours and cut the music before midnight.

Response from Abas L, Owner at Chill Inn Hostal

Thanks a lot for staying with us and taking the time to post a review. It was great having you around and I am glad you recovered well. The hostel is usually very relaxed and 'chilled'. At certain times and certainly in high season more people want to party so that is the way it is however as you said we keep the noise down from 11pm. Hope to see you again soon.

In this homely hostel backpackers will find anything they need for a stopover in the beautiful Tulum. But what really makes the difference with many other accomadion is the staff of amazing people that will makes you feel like part of a family, and at the end of every day spent there you will end up thinking "...ok, I'll Stay here just one more night!"

Given this hostel only has a capacity of around 30 it still manages to feel very busy and full of activity. Has a great communal area where everyone tends to congregate and guests are happy to arrange group trips together. There is a lack of aircon and general lighting in the room which sometimes makes life a bit hard and at times the room did feel a bit cramped but was comfy enough. The best thing about the place was the staff though, gave so much advice about things to do whilst in Tulum and recommendations for anything you asked. They helped mark out points of interest on the map, how to hire bikes and helped on how to do the next leg of our trip - fantastic!

Best hostel in Tulum for sure. Stayed there 3 nights, I wish I could have stayed longer... Nice welcoming staff, always ready to help you, free bicycles for rent and awesome breakfast. 10 mins away from bus station and 30 from the beach.

although there are fans, i remember waking up grasping for air in the middle of the night because i was sleeping in the middle lower bed (no openings except at your feet. Felt like a coffin, and the small fan wasnt enough. Luckily other beds were available so i switched beds right away.
