Opened in 2007, Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is located in a pretty, rural, location in open countryside, between the village of Sucina and the mountains of Sierra de Carrascoy - an area which has been designated a regional natural park - in the Region of Murcia, in Spain. Yet it is just twenty minutes from the beach and airport. The buildings keep the charm of the area alive, such as the manor house, now fully restored as a clubhouse and town centre. The apartments look out over the Nicklaus designed golf course and retain the colonial style of the Riquelme family constructions. The family-friendly resort has wide, open spaces designed to give a sense of space, peace, and tranquillity, and to provide an experience of nature in all its glory. The resort is ideal to enjoy a walk or bike ride around and to admire the wildflowers, olive and orange trees, large lakes, and local scenery. The resort is an escape from the tourist trail (and the noisy bars), located in a serene setting, surrounded by olive groves, and magnificent views of the golf course. Imagine waking up after an undisturbed night's sleep on a super-comfortable mattress, and taking breakfast, on your terrace or balcony, facing the well-maintained gardens, listening only to the birdlife. The resort covers 1,353.041 m², and consists of 1864 privately owned apartments (all with free Wi-Fi), in 78 blocks, scattered around an 18 hole golf course, designed by Nicklaus Design - one of the golf courses, which make up the "GNK Golf Trail" in the region. The resort centre is based around the old Hacienda - a painstakingly restored, late-19th Century, colonial-style country house - previously belonging to the Riquelme family, which gives its name to the resort. The hacienda buildings have been meticulously restored to their former glory, to provide an authentic Spanish clubhouse, simply oozing with character, charm, and ambiance, which further enhances the experience that is Hacienda Riquelme. The rest of the resort centre follows the same architectural style and contains a café, restaurant, bar, golf shop, and supermarket. The old dovecote has been converted into a café, right on the golf course itself. The apartments were designed by Antonio Aleman Architects and supported by careful attention to landscape, developed by EDSA - the leading design company in America for tourist complexes. Hacienda Riquelme has 24-hour security patrols, entry control, and CCTV coverage, giving total peace of mind. As well as the beautifully maintained golf course, there are two tennis courts, two paddle tennis courts, an outside gym, six children’s play areas, and 19 swimming pools, serving all 78 apartment blocks. Largely still a very traditional Spanish area; the Costa Cálida is known as the "warm coast" - enjoying year-round sunshine and very little rain. The Region of Murcia has an excellent climate, with over 320 days sunshine per year, and warm winters, and is the ideal venue for year-round golf. But it is not just about the golf, many owners have bought apartments here because they love the sun, the views of the gardens and the golf course, and the 19 swimming pools. The village of Sucina is just a few minutes from the resort by car, which offers the basic services and facilities needed for everyday living. There are shops, banks, a post office, supermarkets, banks, opticians, a pharmacy and restaurants, including Spanish, Italian and Indian. The seaside town of Los Alcázares, with sandy beaches, shallow sea, and restaurants is about a 20-minute drive away. Balsicas railway station is 15 minutes away, with its high-speed train links to Murcia, Cartagena, Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, etc. The resort has benefited from the building of Murcia's RM-1 motorway. This makes the resort much more accessible and allows residents and holidaymakers quick access to Sucina, the beach and airports. The resort is serviced by two regional airports - Corvera (RMU) a 20-minute drive away, and Alicante (ALC) about a 60-minute drive away. Both airports are easily reached via low-cost airlines from most UK airports. Car hire is available at the airports; there are plenty of taxis, or you can arrange private hire transfers,

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location for golf and swimming (unheated) with plenty of choice for food in resort restaurant or in local town - the Indian restaurant is a great find in Succina. The apartments are all well appointed with plenty to chose from

Lovely, clean and relaxing holiday complex. Could not fault it, the apartment we stayed in was perfect, on site supermarket well stocked and surprisingly reasonably priced. Only complaint is the ridiculous rules around the swimming pool. Good that there are guards to check in the pools and that there is nobody misbehaving - drink or being anti social, but unreasonable to stop childre and other holiday makers from having balls and inflatables in the pool. As long as they are supervised, the guards can monitor this or employ lifeguards who are probably best qualified, some activities should be allowed.

We rented an apartment May 2022, whilst viewing properties on Hacienda Riquelme to purchase for our retirement. We were unsure about living on a golf course, hence staying to get a feel for the place. I have to say, everyone we met was more than welcoming and friendly, even on the night of our arrival when we popped in to ElCason ( the on-site restaurant). The resort is beautiful and well maintained and all the staff are polite and pleasant. There is a 18 hole golf course, a on-site Spar ( reasonably priced) and 24/7 security which is reassuring. I came for 2 weeks in February on my own and felt very safe. The village of Sucina, about 2 km away, is delightful. There are numerous restaurants/bars and again everyone is friendly. We had read reviews about there being a fly issue in the village, but I can honestly say we have not experienced this. We bought an apartment after our visit and came 4-5 times at different times of the year and now live here permanently and have still not noticed a problem with flies that is any worse than anywhere else in Spain. The coast is a mere 20 mins away, Murcia city only 30-35, plus lots of main towns and villages within a short drive. We love our new life here and would highly recommend it. If you come expecting the nightlife of Benidorm then you will be disappointed, but if you want to feel safe, have peace and tranquillity with an abundance of stunning nature surrounding you, then there is nowhere better. Come along and see for yourself

I recently visited Sucina . Overall it was a positive visit. The village itself has some nice restaurants and two supermarkets. The only negative was that the lady in the farmacia was very rude shouting we needed a mask … no need to shout and no need to be rude Senora! The village restaurants etc are set up for the ex pat market to give them a good trade. We did take the train from Balsicas into Cartagena which was really easy and we had a wonderful day. A must visit! Ideally hire a car if you can as there is very little if not no public transport. A great location to visit other places in the Murcia region. The train from Balsicas can take you to Madrid which I believe takes four hours and to Barcelona approx six hours. The weather was brilliant and we will return. Enjoy!

Wow what a stunning place so tranquil and beautiful. Stayed in an apartment here for 5 days and fell in love with it. It’s about a 20/25 min drive from corvera airport. The whole place felt very safe and secure with security on the gates on the way in and out. There is many pools around the resort and we used the one closest to our apartment it was spotlessly clean and very quiet we had it to ourselves some days. There is a restaurant/bar on site and also a spar shop for all the essentials. Two of our party played golf and said it was a great course. The local village Sucina is about 5min drive away which has a good selection of restaurants/bars and cafes plus a supermarket. Would love to return again one day.

This is a very nice resort, well maintained and the apartment I stayed in is lovely. If you're looking for a quiet (very quiet) getaway then this is ideal and you can explore the region. The apartments here are all owned privately but it's less than 20% occupied and I've walked all around it. I'm not sure why but the golf course is closed (time of posting September 18-20 2021). It has a little supermarket and a mediocre bar/restaurant. If you can cope with the boredom, you could buy a beautiful apartment here for very little money

We all sincerely hope that you will be coming back very soon to enjoy our beautiful, and picturesque, resort all over again. Your comments relating to the resort's on-site restaurant, which is an entirely separate entity, and the accommodation provider has no jurisdiction over the services provided there. The restaurant has its own dedicated TripAdvisor site, so the reviewer's comments are appropriate on that site: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1509165-d8374353-Reviews-El_Cason-Sucina.html The golf course was closed due to covid but has since re-opened on 01.10.21. I am not sure about your statement about "boredom." We have an Information Office on the resort that will provide you with plenty of information about what to do whilst you are on the resort (like our numerous sports facilities) and what the local area has to provide, including the ancient cities of Murcia and Cartagena, and the many beaches on the Costa Cálida. But one man's "boredom" is another man's "tranquility and peacefulness." Kindest regards John B Owner on Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort

This resort is so tranquil and clean its un true. We went to Murcia with the intention of buying a property at one of the golf resorts. To be honest we thought we had made our decision prior to getting on the plane and it was not HR. We looked at la Torre, Mar Menor, El Valle and of course Hacienda Riquelme. Obviously we bought our holiday home at HR not only due to the high standard that the resort is maintained but also the people we met during our viewing tour. Sitting outside the Hacienda chatting to some of the residents played a massive part in our decision making. Not one person did we meet that did not give HR a 10 out of 10. Decision made. We are now in the process of purchasing our home and becoming part of this special community.
