Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Restaurants are scarce in this part of the world and luckily several B & B s serve dinner as well as breakfast. When we were here our host served a very nice dinner.
Our room was excellent and the beds were outstanding.
Our host has had an interesting life and he likes to tell about it and about his views of the world which can be a bit tiring after a while.

Another of my yearly trips to Kinloch and the high standards I have come to expect remain. This really is a B&B of the highest quality and I have no hesitation in recommending it, either as a fisherman as in my case, or as a great place to stay why ever you find yourself in the Outer Hebrides. The 5lb 4oz brown trout didn't do any harm to this years stay either!

Wegg had had a cancellation which worked in our favour as we only needed a one night stopover en route to Harris. This place is a gem, one of the few houses on the island surrounded by trees, which sets it apart from the rest. Wegg's home is very comfortable and full of interest and charm which reflects the well travelled, welcoming and agreeable host he is. Wegg's cooking and service was very good indeed and it was enjoyable to sit around the table chatting with him and his other guests. Maxi got along well with our dog...so all our party were contented. The view from the windows over the Loch towards the Three Peaks was dramatic and tempting.....if only we had had the time to walk them. We'll just have to come back then won't we!

We stopped at Kinloch to enquire about the possibility of accommodation for 2012,
we were greeted by Wegg. He asked us where we were staying, when we told him we received a torrent of verbal abuse. I believe the reason was because we were staying else where on the island and Wegg had issues with its owner, not our problem, however he thinks it is. So if it is your fisrt visit to the island you should be ok however if you have been on the island before and not stayed with Wegg
watch out you have been warned.
i told him I would report him to the tourist board he told me he had severed all ties with that establishment, i wonder why.

Response from weggk, Owner at Kinloch
Responded 29 Jun 2011
I promised myself that I would never reply to this sort of review but in this instance must make an exception. Mr. G. who must remain anonymous, made an initial enquiry into availability and costs at Kinloch in July 2010, for the period May 2011 - I sent him this information but received no reply. Almost a year later in May 2011 Mr G. dressed in his fishing waders, arrived on my doorstep, uninvited and without any prior notice. I think he was ostensibly here to "inspect" my premises to decide if he and his friends wanted to stay at Kinloch in 2012. Mr G. advised me that he was staying with one of my major competitors - and I now believe had stayed there in previous years. I asked him why he wished to move to Kinloch but was not given an answer. I then advised Mr G. that I would not be taking a booking from him for 2012. Mr G. has never booked to stay at Kinloch, has never stayed at Kinloch and has never even set foot inside the house. I disliked Mr G. about as much as he disliked me - why he would even want to stay at Kinloch, or feel compelled to write this review is beyond me. I stand by the other reviews on this site, which as far as I am aware are all written by people who have actually stayed with me and have had experience of my hospitality food, beds and Maxi the chocolate labrador. You must draw your own conclusions.

We booked on the net and the accomodation and meals were as described.
Perhaps this place is better suited to the fishing enthusiast as both the host and the other guest, when we were there, were very keen anglers.
If we came again to Uist we would probably book one of the local guest houses

Response from Kinloch_Lodge, General Manager at Kinloch
I think this review has ended up on the wrong page given that Uist is in Scotland and we're in New Zealand. Have reported it to Tripadvisor, sorry you didn't have a great time where you stayed.

We spent three nights in a huge upstairs double room with a luxurious bathroom in this ultra-comfortable homely B&B in a splendid location with marvellous views. Wegg looked after us very well and regaled us with his anecdotes and opinions on just about everything. The food was relatively simple and sometimes repetitive (sausages for breakfast and dinner, Co-op trifle two night running) and was probably a tad over-priced for what it was. However, we thoroughly enjoyed walking Maxi into the spectacular sunsets after supper and Wegg was most helpful, guiding us to the best sites on South Uist and even returning our mislaid binoculars after we had left. Thank you Wegg for some happy memories.

My wife and I spent four nights at Kinloch in the middle of a tour of the Hebrides and were glad we hadn't used it as a quick stopover. The house is easy to find whilst retaining the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. Our room was large and extremely comfortable with lovely views over Loch Druidibeag to the mountains (Thacla, Beinn Choradail and Beinn Mhor).
Wegg turned out to be an excellent and charming host and conversations with him could range far and wide (and late). We were assured of an excellent and filling breakfast, self-assembly packed lunches and a top quality evening meal (always welcome after a long day on the hills). Wegg's dog Maxi is also charming and well-mannered, refusing to enter the dining room when guests are eating.
Wegg is a keen fisherman and does much to accommodate other like-minded souls. However, if fishing isn't your thing, you will still be made very welcome and there should be plenty to engage you in the area if you appreciate nature, dramatic landscapes and local history.
You are definitely advised to spend more than a night here.

This is the second year I have been to stay with Wegg at Kinloch B+B and it was just as good this year as last. Wegg did everything he could to make our stay great and the food is wonderful. The fishing is amazing - it is not often you can catch a 5lb brown trout in 3ft of water as I did during my stay plus the flowers on the machair and the birds on the island are fantastic. Had a great time.

Very good: comfortable, hospitable and good home cooked food. Very helpful about what to see and made us feel like house guests.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Wegg, the host, is a character with many stories and a fun way of expressing himself and his opinions. We talked about many different subjects during dinners. Wegg is an excellent cook who can put a meal on the table in a delightful, tasty way. I highly suggest having him prepare the evening meals.
