Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Here is a list of my campsite criteria:

• Spaced out pitches
• Grass pitches (not mud/stones)
• Fires allowed
• Beautiful views
• Clean loos
• Warm showers (plenty of hooks, a stool)
• Helpful owners
• Freezer
• Phone charger
• Cars left in car park
• No road noise

I've camped at dozens of sites over the past couple of decades, some of them have come close to meeting my criteria but they always fall down on one or two points. Finally, I have found one that ticks every single box!

Each, very large, pitch has a picnic table, a straw bale sofa and a really good fire pit with grill (not a washing machine drum that fails to deliver any heat), there are fairy lights dotted around that give a magical quality to the site at night, pots of colourful geraniums brighten up the loos, there are even hot water bottles to borrow – who could ask for more?

Well done Julia, you’ve put so much effort into making this new campsite so absolutely perfect, we can’t wait to visit again!

PS – we had lunch at the Fox Inn in Finchingfield – I can highly recommend it; great food and excellent service (you’ll need to book), we had coffee and cake at the Greedy Duck – huge range of tasty treats to choose from. The Wonky Wheel art gallery is also worth a visit – the art is of a high quality and there are plenty of gift ideas too.

I was looking for a natural camping spot in easy reach of North London without having to drive for hours & hit the jackpot here! Only 1hr 15mins drive from Hampstead area & you really feel like you’re in the heart of the Essex countryside.

The local village is picture postcard perfect with its large green, thatched cottages & duck pond, with 2 decent pubs & excellent tea rooms.

The site is set in lovely countryside, the pitches are generously spread out with picnic tables & fire pits. Every attention to detail has been lovingly created by the owner who was extremely helpful throughout our stay.

Being a seasoned Festival goer, it really appealed to me as you feel like you are at your own mini festival.....the kids loved hanging out under the stars in front of the fire.

Highly recommended as an easy escape from London & nature fix!!

We will be returning soon with friends...

Could not recommend this place enough.
I sent an email to rebook for next year!
I’m not a camper at all but this was set up so it was made easy- from the giant wheelbarrows to carry your stuff in to your private toilet, HOT showers, nicest owners who happy to help with anything and honestly amazing chocolate brownies and ice cream in the on site cafe.
Perfect stay

We had an absolutely lovely stay at Finchingfield Campsite. Julia was able to fit us in last minute (we rang on the day) and organise out pitch for us. The facilities are great, each pitch having their own composting toilets (which were always clean and not smelly) was a big plus. The showers again were lovely and warm. We really liked being able to have and use a fire pit, which we did all our cooking on. The campsite itself is just magical with millions of wildflowers and acres of lavender surrounding you.
Julia was a fantastic host and our 4yo definitely enjoyed meeting the chickens, ducks and geese! We will definitely be returning!

Stayed here with friends over the weekend. Pitches are big and spread out, have own picnic tables and fire pits. Showers are warm and there’s a shed with a fridge where you can keep things cold and charge phones etc. Short walk into the village, to the pub on the green for a beer. Friendly and helpful owner Julia, will come again

We recently stayed for one night glamping in the Lavender tent and it was a wonderful experience. The tent set up was fabulous and there really wasn’t one thing that hadn’t been thought out. Large wheel burrows provided to transport items to and from car. The setting is stunning as is the campsite, on-site facilities were immaculate, gorgeous glamping tent cafe onsite selling lovely homemade food and ice cream, this place is faultless and so worth a visit! Set in a rural location with plenty on the doorstep. Star gazing late at night is a must!

First time camping experience for my son so i wanted something more organised than a wild camp, but not something that felt like a holiday park, and this fit the bill perfectly. It has everything you could want, clean toilets and showers, A fridge and freezer, washing up facilities, even hot water bottles and spare blankets for those really cold nights, but all kept at arms length. The owner, Julia, was very nice and helpful. We will be booking again next year.

We stopped here for a long weekend and was not disappointed. We had a lovely relaxing stay. The pitch was well-sized and some distance from the neighbours. Each pitch has its own composting toilet that was well maintained and perfectly serviceable. The showered were simple but perfect for some off-grid camping. The site itself is beautiful with loads of space dedicated to ‘wilding’ and as such bursting with wildlife. A few pleasant hours spent lazing in the calmness of the lavender field and the on site cafe was perfect for that little sweet or savour treat. Julia and her team were the icing on the cake. They made our stay feel L just that more special. Thanks team!

Had another amazing week at Finchingfield camping, the site is beautiful, peaceful and just perfect for a time of rest and relaxation, Julia and the team are so accommodating for any assistance needed and to welcome you to the tea & cake bell tent. Waking up with the gorgeous smell of the lavender fields is a bonus, You have your own squeaky clean composting toilet, picnic bench, fire pit. We have already booked again for next year!

All I can say is WOW! What a wonderful experience we had at Finchingfield camping! The pitch was perfect everywhere was spotlessly clean, Julia was so helpful from start to finish! We had some cake and drinks from the cute little cafe which was very tasty and served by Malakai with a welcoming smile! We enjoyed the perfect sunset from our pitch and the whole atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing! We loved having fresh duck eggs in the morning made on our very own little fire pit! We will certainly be back!
