Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here for a family wedding back in August and have been meaning to write a review ever since! The house is beautiful, sitting in the village centre and opposite what must be one of the best pubs in Ireland. The rooms are clean and charming and the whole place has an old worldly, romantic feel. Christina is a fabulous host. She made us very welcome in her home and she cooks an incredible breakfast! We will always thoroughly recommend Ardmore and look forward to our next visit! Des & Pannapat Sammon

Very pretty old house on the edge of the attractive village of Kinnitty, convenient for walking in the hills and exploring the midlands. We enjoyed the location and attractive decor, but found our room rather small for the price and while our host kindly offered us tea, it would have been nice to have tea-making facilities in our room.

I stayed only for one night but it was such a lovely place. My room was comfy, clean and pretty. Bathroom was super clean and the water pressure in the shower was really good. I was received with tea and scones, and the next day I had a full Irish breakfast at the time it was convenient for me before leaving. Chris was a wonderful and kind host. The house is on a main road just some meters away from the 2 Pubs in the town, a small café and a small store. Very easy to reach by foot if you arrive with the Bus from Portlaoise or even with car. 25 minutes walking from door to door from Kinnitty Castle. I would stay there again!

Thank you so much Anna for taking the time to tell me how much you enjoyed your stay here. It was a pleasure to host you. The new bus route from Portlaoise has really made it easier for independent travellers to get here. Hope to see you again. Chris

Excellent service. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. In particular, she fixed us up with sandwich pack when a ferry cancellation meant leaving at 4..30 AM. The room was spacious and rustically furnished. The full Irish breakfast kept us going throughout the day!

No way is this a four star premises. Very uncomfortable worn out cheap mattress which the host tried to camoflauge with a mattress topper. Really small towels. Disgraceful breakfast. Tiny glass of orange juice. I ordered mushrooms on toast and got FOUR mushrooms!! I didn't order the full Irish so four mushrooms were not acceptable.. With his rashers and sausages, for his full Irish breakfast, my husband got ONE egg, ONE mushroom, two QUARTERS of a tomato, ONE QUARTER of a potato waffle, despite these items being described in the plural. Unfortunately, I did not take photos of the breakfasts. Very unpleasant, unfriendly hostess. Cash only is accepted at this premises. Wonder why!! Skimpy, skimpy place.

Dear Philomena I understand someone making a complaint about something they were not happy but really I find this most upsetting. This review has been written in such a way as to make it as negative as possible. Star Rating The Irish Tourist Board sets the criteria for the star rating and my property is checked regularly to see I maintain this. It is a 4 star bed and breakfast. Beds. All the beds in my home are of very good quality. None worn like you suggested. I have feather and down Bedeck mattress toppers and electric blankets on all my beds to add luxury to my beds and not for the negative reason you suggested. If I had a number of complaints about a particular bed then of course I would change it. I’m sure you will understand but if it’s just 1 or 2 people out of the many guests I have staying then much and all as I would like to satisfy everyone’s needs I cannot adhere to everyone’s bed preference . Bath Towels Towels are the normal bath size towels 1.3m x.66m similar to most accommodations except perhaps 5 star hotels. I leave facecloths in the hope that guests will use them to remove make up!! My Breakfast. I have a breakfast menu. Which I presented at your table. Your husband had a full Irish. You arrived last for breakfast and requested mushrooms on toast which is not an item listed on my menu. My Irish breakfast consisted of 2 Tullamore back rashers, 2 Clonakilty sausages, I black 1 white Clonakilty pudding. 2 mini potato waffles, half a tomato cut in two and a 1 mushroom. To accompany that there is my own homemade Irish Soda bread, white bread for toasting a choice of Orange Apple or Cranberry juice 100ml glass size. I pointed out that on the side board a choice of cereals and fruit which comprised of homemade muesli, cornflakes and bran flakes, natural yogurt, fruit compote and a mixture of berries. I have never refused anyone a second helping of anything if they asked for it. Anyone who has special dietary requests if they call ahead I will do my best to accommodate. I do not recall been in any way rude or unpleasant to you or your husband but if you feel I was then I apologize Credit Card Contrary to what you say I have credit card facilities through my computer. These incur fees of up to 5% as stacks will know. There is no other reason. I work very hard to main a very high standard of accommodation and treat guests with courtesy and respect to the best of my ability and will continue to do so. I was shocked and upset by your very negative review purposefully leaving out any positives. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Regards Chris

Ardmore Country House is comfortable, clean and well situated for activities on the Slieve Bloom trails. We hiked and also rented electric mountain bikes at the nearby Bloom E-Riders. Both were great fun and the trails are beautiful. Our host Chris was lovely and helpful. We hope to return someday!
