Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hands down the best place we stayed at for our entire trip and we stayed at many places across 10 days. Can’t recommend it enough. The place was sparkling clean and so cosy and homely. Not one criticism to make. The accommodation has been updated from the pictures shown and looks fantastic.

The host Mairi has gone out of her way to make guests as comfortable as possible. Every single aspect was fantastic and nothing missed. The mattress and pillows were so comfortable and clearly expensive ones. There was even a heated blanket for the bed, which was divine and a great touch. The room and toilet were very modern and clean, and very nicely decorated. Great shower gels and shampoos etc. we’re available. There were lots of other added touches too that really made the experience great and comfortable.

Not to mention that the host Mairi is so friendly and accommodating. She’s such a calming person and makes you feel at complete ease. Not sure how anyone could have rated this place as poor, nor described Mairi as frosty.

The breakfast was also great. I would highly recommend Newhaven to anyone at staying in Harris!

We booked our Outer Hebrides road trip through Hebridean Hopscotch and are given a choice for accommodations that go in Groups from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest. This is a Group 1 and I can honestly say it was as good if not better than the Group 5 we stayed in.
We were in room number 3 which was perfect overlooking the harbour.
Mairi is a lovely host and even made her 4 guests tea/coffee and supplied biscuits and cakes whilst we sat watching the Queens funeral in their lounge which was a really lovely thing for her to do.

An immaculate and comfortable property, the room was ensuite, spotless, comfortable bed. The breakfast selections gorgeous, local smoked salmon and eggs so tasty. Mari was so welcoming, knowledgeable and kind. We were blessed with lovely weather and enjoyed the garden and views of the wee harbour.

I spent 5 nights in the New Haven B&B and really enjoyed it. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. I really liked to wake up in the morning with the view on the landscape, the sheep and some funny ducks, that came to say hello every morning. Mairi was a lovely host and prepared a wonderful breakfast every morning, which was served in a lovely decorated small breakfast room. You could choose from a wide range of things what you would like to eat. All products were very fresh and high-quality. We also had a very nice chat every morning, which I really enjoyed. Mairi asked about the day before and the plans for the upcoming day. She also had very good suggestion what to do and always was right about the wheater, which was really helpful. We could also talk about further things and I felt very welcomed. Thank you very much, Mairi! I wish you and your husband all the best.

We stayed at Mairi’s bed and breakfast for two nights on a trip around the Outer Hebrides. The room was very comfortable and had excellent bathroom facilities. Maria’s breakfasts were outstanding particularly the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Nothing was too much for Maria including assistance with our clothes washing!! All in all a place well worth staying at on a lovely little island!!

Fantastic b & b. Our host, Mairi could not have been more friendly and welcoming and every aspect of our stay was a delight. Incredible breakfast, nothing too much trouble and a joy to spend a night there. The house overlooks the harbour and a walk in any direction is very rewarding.

A wonderful B&B in an amazing location. The bedroom was roomy and comfortable and the en-suite was modern and had a great bath and shower. Hosts were warm and welcoming and the breakfast was great. There is a guest lounge with great views across the harbour.

About one in maybe ten or so of my TA reviews is bad — this is one of them.

We arrived to a frosty welcome ("I've been waiting for you!") late in the evening after a referral from the local VisitScotland (tourism) office.

We found the modern bungalow decorations kitsch, the mattress very soft, the breakfast ordinary. We stayed in five hotels and B&Bs in the Western Isles in June. New Haven was by a long way the poorest. VisitScotland gave this B&B four stars. What for?

Stayed for one night prior to taking the ferry to North Uist and was very impressed with the overall standard. Rooms and bathrooms are recently renovated and very clean. The bathroom in particular was practically luxurious. The owner clearly pays a lot of attention to detail, and things like a universal adapter provided in the room (one of my "favorite" items to forget to pack) are incredibly thoughtful. Breakfast was a highlight as well. Bonus points for offering fresh porridge, complete with Scottish honey to sweeten it. Scalpay itself is wonderfully remote and beautiful, and well worth the small detour from Harris. Overall, just an excellent stay!

Possibly the best B&B I've ever stayed at: spotless, great breakfast, attention to detail and a warm welcome!

Mairi is a Gael in the strict sense of the Word that conveys her passion for her homeland, language and culture and goes to great lengths to make you feel at home.

Scalpay is a little gem offering a bewitching scenery that has become one of my favourite places in this world. I'm looking forward to coming back
