We made a return visit to this hotel following a break of over 2 years due to Covid restrictions etc. and are so pleased that we did.
Due to the lovely welcome guests feel relaxed the minute you enter the hotel.
Our room was super - airy and spotless. We know now to expect this standard of cleanliness here and this visit was no exception with even more care being taken with Covid still around. Hand sanitisers all around the hotel and staff continuing to wear masks.
The chef has prepared a super menu. Something to suit all tastes. The scallops and mussels being caught locally were so fresh and delicious. Not only did the food taste great but was well presented. The waiting staff are friendly and efficient and make guests feel that they genuinely want them to have enjoyed their meal.
It was great to be back at this fabulous hotel. The welcome, the food, the view and the staff make The Creggans very special.
A super team effort.

Haven’t been here for a while but we needed a break out of Covid, and the Creggans Inn, Strachur was highly recommended by a friend who knows the area.
I cannot speak highly enough of this historic country Inn which is becoming a national treasure. The owners Archie and Jill have pulled out all the stops here with beautiful, spotless accomodation, excellent food and service which come with stunning views over Loch Fyne..... try it, you won’t be disappointed.

The Inn is in a great location, with good views. Covid management appeared good. However, the stay was disappointing. The loch-view dining room was closed to facilitate Covid one-way movement through the hotel. The bistro was uninspiring, lacking atmosphere. The food was mixed, some very good, some not! The main thing was that the room, the bathroom and the bedding were long overdue for a refurbishment and so didn't make for a comfortable stay. We felt this was poor value for money given the range of lower cost places in the area. Relatively high prices, but the room did not merit that. Wouldn't go back.

A planned stop for lunch late August, grew up in the area and thought my partner would be impressed with the location and view.
Greeted very brusquely by middle aged lady who seemed to be in charge, who chided us for entering without a mask, not a rule in restaurants where we live. Fair enough, but could have done so in a more welcoming manner. We were shown to a tiny table with a window seat, the cushion of which was absolutely filthy.
Thought we'd persevere as we didn't know of anywhere else on our route. Wish we hadn't though. My partner ordered a coronation chicken sandwich, the bread was stale. I had a bacon and brie sandwich, the bacon was pretty much raw and mostly fat anyway. We sent both back uneaten apart from one bite of the coronation. Hoity looks, but no apology or anything. Charged for our drinks in full which we paid and left.

Rooms were fine given COVID conditions, common areas a little run down in parts but it adds to the “quaint Scottish” vibe and staff were friendly. Happy to do laundry etc which was very kind. Need to get better at cleaning up after dogs, all good being friendly to dogs but there was mess all over the ground - not nice.

Food was appalling, so much so we didn’t eat a single breakfast when we were there and went out of our way to eat anywhere else ofter the first night. Nothing as described on menu, which is overpriced compared to nearby restaurants, even cooking Croissants seemed out of reach - burnt and mostly inedible. Some other great examples: poached apricots in honey and spices were dried apricots with boiled water poured over them; prawn korma was chip shop curry sauce over frozen prawns; Burgers with Brioche buns that were plain cheap bread rolls with no sauces, relish of taste.

This place needs a new chef and a new approach to food. You have the best produce on your doorstep, a lovely premise and staff with a great Scottish welcome - make use of them.

Hidden extras on the bill were a surprise, like £45 for a 2 year old to stay but we just wanted out by that point.

Overall, having spent over £700 in little over 48hrs we are left feeling cheated and deflated.

This has to be without doubt my worst hotel experience ever it’s is sold as a romantic getaway when in reality it is a filthy disgrace , we paid almost £200 for a room that was less than travel lodge standard and was not clean . The food was served cold and the staff were rude when we complained , wish we had taken time read some of the poorer reviews from people who obviously were treated similarly. Be advised this is very poor and being run by people the like of which I have never encountered.

I don't recognise the criticisms people have left. This is not a soulless hotel full of bling. The eclectic mix of furniture gives it character. The hotel has big public rooms which, if you are going off season, may seem a bit incongruous but the location is brilliant near the head of Loch Fyne. We upgraded to a superior room and my suggestion would be, if it's within budget (it's not that much more expensive) then do it. It's more a suite than a room with a separate lounge and large bedroom. It's not the most modern, but the view is one of the best you will get in Scotland. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and efficient and we had a great stay. I hope we can go back soon.

Had to stay in Strachur for two nights to attend a friend's funeral in the village. We were given a very warm welcome and staying and eating at the Creggans made a very difficult situation more bearable. The room was excellent and comfortable and the breakfasts and dinners were outstanding. The staff were so sympathetic and totally in tune with our feelings. Would love to return in happier circumstances.

Stayed here two nights and felt very welcome, relaxed and comfortable. The hotel have put in excellent Covid procedures which made our first stay in a hotel since Covid began feel safe but not overly restrictive.
The rooms are a little old fashioned, depending on individual tastes, but very clean and comfortable. We had rooms to the front with beautiful views.
We ate in the restaurant each night and the food and service could not be faulted. Breakfast was also first class.
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and very much hope to return.

We had read some of the more recent reviews on here about the Creggans Inn and were a little trepidatious about our visit. We had booked the best room a few weeks ago as our 2020 Christmas presents to each other. It was a special treat at the completion of the Loch Lomond and Cowl long distance walk. The experience couldn't have been better. The room was one of the best we have ever stayed in, with glorious views over Loch Fyne and a larger then normal bath to fully stretch out and soak away the aches .There is a great sitting out area, and a further area across the road surrounded by the sea on 3 sides where I had a pint of the local draught blond ale. We also had dinner outside, scallops cooked to perfection with to die for sauces, fish and chips with home made tartar sauce and mushy peas, 5 local cheeses to finish. Breakfast was also brilliant. The service was very friendly and efficient. We couldn't have wished for a better experience and will be back if ever there is a reason to return to the area.

Hi Heskey60, we're right on Loch Fyne which is a sea loch and fishing on it is free. The little jetty at the hotel is a good spot to set up. If you're looking for something more adventurous, there are trout lochs in the area or you can go skate fishing from Oban.
