Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have just got home after a brilliant week at the Calvert Trust in Exmoor, after weeks of wondering whether it would be able to go ahead because of Covid restrictions.

We’re a family of 5 with 3 children aged 14,12 & 6. The 12 year old has autism. It’s hard to find things that entertains all three, especially with such a big age difference but all of us could take part in every activity here. Social distancing was well maintained with pre-determined bubbles, the same instructor all week and masks/hand gel.

We all had a go at Climbing, Abseiling, Zip-wire, command tasks, fire building, cycling, swimming, Boccia, Archery, King Swing and indoor orienteering. Our instructor, James, was patient and encouraging, and our youngest kept saying how much he liked him, which is always a good sign!

The food was brilliant, all home-made and nothing was too much trouble for the fab chefs who were happy to adapt the menu to meet the youngest’s dietary needs due to food aversions.

Rooms were clean and well
maintained with all the necessary adaptations to meet the needs of those with physical disabilities.

Even the rain didn’t spoil the week but we could do with another week off to recover 🤣

We have two sons with Autism, one non-verbal with Epilepsy, aged 20 and 17. We've had lots of holidays, usually self-catering lodges in the UK with access to a swimming pool as our boys love to swim. We really wanted to go somewhere we were accepted and catered for, not having to explain our situation and always be the anomaly family, watching on while everyone else has more fun and everything is accessible to them.
The Calverts Trust definitely ticked all the boxes we needed; warm, friendly and supportive staff (big shout out to Tom who was our instructor for the week and really made our holiday extra special). Lots of great activities that we could all do with consideration for each individual. The whole centre is kept spotlessly clean which really does deserve a mention particularly in these times, their Domestic Team keep it immaculate. Little things like clinical waste bags being available should you need them and being collected, putting a breakfast in the warmer until our son was ready to come down for breakfast; it all makes a difference for a family like ours. The food (apart from the first night) was lovely and plentiful. Our son said its the best holiday we've had so we will return!

Our son, who has a learning disability, has just spent a week at Calvert Trust with his friends. He has been several times before & loves his annual break there. He thoroughly enjoyed all the activities which were well instructed & supervised. The accommodation is comfortable & he said the food was very good.

Rooms very clean and comfortable, could be improved with supplying tvs in all rooms. They could offer a steam room/ sauna as well as the jacuzzi, that still hasn't been fixed.

Food was fairly good, instructors very pleasant and helpful, made us all feel welcome 🤗.

We booked in for an afternoon of canoeing and when we arrived they weren't sure if it would be too windy to do it. Thankfully it wasn't and the activity went ahead as planned. All of the staff were friendly and informative. They introduced themselves and I am sorry but I only remembered Angus and Lewis's names. Both of the ladies on reception were fab too, as was the guy who went to see if it was too windy. My memory is rubbish but you were all awesome. We really loved our time on the lake. Unfortunately none of us took photos as we didn't have our phones. We didn't have a waterproof case. I will get some for next time though. We ended early as I was really sore but if I take my pressure cussion next time I can definitely have the full afternoon. Thanks guys and we definitely plan on returning. We were on the water for two hours.total in the end which is not bad for my first time.

Just arrived home from a weekend away at the Calvert trust with my mother and disabled sister. The staff ensure everything is organised and made as easy as possible for the guests and carers. The place is so well set up and caters for everyone including the severely disabled. Ceiling track hoists, manual hoists, even elephant feet to put on table legs so a wheelchair can get under. They have equipment to enable EVERYONE to rock climb, zip line, abseil, swim, archery, block stacking and a lot more. They have thought of everything!
The food is served in the dining room in a kind of school dinner style. It's simple but nice and does the job. Kitchen staff never stopped, always cooking the next meal or baking homemade cakes and the cleaners are always around mopping and tidying making sure the centre is tidy. I can not say enough about this place to do it justice. Thank you to everyone at the Calvery trust who made our weekend so special, we'll be back time after time, you've made a guest for life out of us.

I had already written a 5* review of this holiday before I got ill. However one member of staff who described herself as the manager totally spoilt this by her total lack of compassion for me when I became extremely unwell on the last evening. Her only concern seemed to be to clear the room for the next guests and to complain that I wasn't organising alternative care, transport, packing etc when I was unable to think about anything beyond my stomach. The woman in question conveniently went home for a family emergency and was replaced by a much nicer manager who did what she could to help and showed the expected level of compassion based on all of our other experiences there but our entire memory will now be dominated by the manager from Hell. The adverse effect of this on my disabled partner was particularly bad as he feels unable to trust them again and they are pretty much unique in their offering.

Thank you Dawn for sharing your feedback. We pride ourselves on the service we provide and we are pleased to hear that overall you had a positive experience with us. However, we are disappointed that we didn’t meet all your expectations on this occasion. The whole team were sorry to see you unwell during your visit and we do hope you are feeling better. Sadly one of the team did suffer a bereavement on Friday and understandably was called away at short notice. I’m glad we were able to offer you the support you needed, and hopefully this will in some way reassure you and will not deter you from returning in January as expected. If you would like to discuss this or any other matter please do not hesitate to contact Becky on 01598 763 221.

We would like to say a very special thank you to our instructor for the week Tyler who really helped encourage our son Jack to fully participate in all the activities.

Just returned from a great all inclusive break with our son. Well laid out with a beautiful courtyard garden. Lovely clean room with easily accessible wet room/bathroom. Staff were sociable, friendly and respectful to us and our son. Food was good and plentiful and beverages were available 23 hours a day. Thank you to our instructor Mark. His patience and approach to our son was much appreciated. We all tried things that I personally thought I would never do...Zip wire, Abseiling , Climbing. Please do try the Hydrotherapy pool. Bar and entertainment were laid on at night.
