Just returned this morning from a 2 night camping trip at Fen Farm. We paid for non-electric pitches but when we turned up we had electric facilities which was a result.
Camp was quiet, but not too quiet that you couldn’t play ball games with the kids. Pitches weren’t on top of one another so had good space.
Facilities are SUPER clean. Roughly 6 showers and 6 toilet cubicles, all really clean! During pandemic, they shut facilities regularly to completely clean top to bottom. Showers were nice and warm. No mud, or grass or hair. Washing up facilities, waste disposal, family shower rooms all easy to find. Playground went down well with kids. The wardens were super friendly and helpful at all hours of the day.
Beach is a 5 minute walk from camp. Stoney beach but kids still enjoyed it.
Pub 5 minute walk in other direction for dinner and drinks. Couldn’t get booked in there as fully reserved but went to The Fox Inn (7min drive) food was good and big beer garden.

Really enjoyed our stay at Fen Farm. We’ve been to other campsites and this has been our favourite so far. Highly recommended and will be back again next year.
Thanks you!

I Googled camp sites in essex, fen farm came up first nd had great reviews
Rang nd spoke to reception nd they were very helpful
Explaining what was put in place for covid nd the cleaning time table for showers nd toilets
The reviews were already really good saying about winning awards for the shower nd toilet which is a great plus got us...
I booked only 2 days before we arrived
The day of arrival we were a little early but rung ahead nd it wasn't a issie
Booked in with the warden Andy nd he showed us to our spot to pitch our tent
Andy was very helpful nd told us about the site nd places to eat
Andy is a treasure to fen farm

We stayed for 2 nights nd we had a great time.. Weather was good nd could recommend the site for a quite time away...
Lovely walks
For us it was only 1 hour 30 mins away from home...
We will definitely be visiting again as its a lovely bolt hole without loads of travel time

We spent a week here last year & loved it so much we booked again for this year! This is a fantastic site! Immaculately clean shower block and washing up/laundry areas, clean & tidy site it also has 2 parks for the children (one for under 12's), a great shop, a dog wash/muddy outside shower (which is warm!!) and pitches aren't on top of each other meaning the children have space to play & have some freedom. The atmosphere on this site is one of friendliness and it's in a great location, just a short walk to the beach, a quick drive to Mersea boating lake and the fabulous Dog & Pheasant pub/restaurant a short stroll away! They now also have food trucks visit on selected evenings of the week so you can have a night off of cooking, and a children's art & craft stool one afternoon, which our boys loved.
We've booked up again for next year - can't recommend this site highly enough!

Nice location near estuary beach. Helpful on site warden shows you to your pitch, pitches large.
Level site, well maintained toilets and showers- could do with wash basin in a cubicle for those who may wish to wash in private instead of shower. Showers push button type, only give water for very short period so needed to lean on button to rinse.
Booked for 3 nights but only stayed 2 due to level of noise: first night 2 caravans partying loudly outside until after 12.30, second day and into the night loud music with heavy base from 2 different units. Site rules state no noise after 11pm but this is obviously ignored by some, and not enforced by anyone on the site. You expect normal noise levels from people enjoying themselves on holiday, but you don't expect lack of regard for other people. Also lots of yapping dogs. Have seen other reviews mentioning noise being an issue. If everyone is considerate, this shouldn't be a problem!
Warning- be prepared for lots of mosquitoes if visiting late summer.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August to try out our new tent. We were pleasantly surprised about just how wonderful this place is. We were situated by one of the play areas on the main field. Next to the toilets and near the warden. Fen farm is a beautiful quiet place and the grounds were well looked after. The toilet and showers were absolutely spotless and we loved the added bonus of being able to listen to the radio in the facilities too.
Such a wonderful place we will be back. X

We have recently decided to have a seasonal pitch at this site.
The facilities are very clean. The staff are very friendly. The site is laid out well.
There are 2 playgrounds, a dog walking and exercise area, a large field for ball games and access to the beach.
There is a pub a few minutes walk away too and also if you walk along the coast you can access a country park to one side and a parkdean to the other where there is a restaurant, small arcade area and playground.
The pitches have a good amount of space between them with access to electricity and water. The staff were on hand to help us get the van in the right place.
Great little site and would recommend.

We visited this site for a 5 night stay in our motorhome with 2 adults and 2 dogs. The site is a large one with static caravans, seasonal pitches and a designated area for touring motorhomes, caravans and tents with or without EHU. From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome by the wardens who gave us loads of local information that made our stay a great one. The toilet block was spotless and warm and Radio 2 playing was a lovely touch. Plenty of dog walking within the site and also a country park nearby accessed along the beach that was great. There is also a pub just outside the site that serves food and I recommend the fish and chips that were delicious. If you want a tranquil and chilled site with a laid back feel then this is the site for you.

Fen Farm camping and caravan site is one of our favourite getaways. It is located on the beautiful East Mersey Island. We are always welcomed by the helpful wardens, in particular John and his wife Dawn who do a fantastic job. The toilets are very clean and the whole campsite is very well cared for and maintained. There is a small shop on site with all the basics and a few nice luxuries and there is a pub opposite the site called The Dog and Partridge, which you would have to book if you reqire a meal. Nice walking and cycling routes nearby. All in all, a lovely relaxing getaway. Denise and Ivor

If this was your first camping experience, it would spoil it for all others! It was so CLEAN and well maintained and neat and tidy, as well as 24 hour management. Just such a reassurance. Well kept play areas too and just right by the beach. The wardens are well informed on the area as well which was good for us who had travelled quite far. Will definitely be keeping Fen Farm on our list of campsites to stay at.

What is the earliest check in time?
Answer from Margaret L
Colchester, United Kingdom
So sorry, I have only just seen this. It depends on the time of year high season is always 12 noon on and off, but in mid and low season you can arrive earlier and check out later as long as we have the space. You can discuss with us when you book as we realise sometimes things aren't straight forward!
