The Hotel Colonial, with a prime location one block from Puebla's main square, dates back to 1668 when it was built as a Jesuit monastery. The building is catalogued as an Historic Monument, because of its magnificent colonial architecture. Its restaurant is known locally for its excellent cuisine, and recomended in almost every foreign tour guide. The "Mole Poblano" served every day in its dining rooms is reputed to be the best in the world.

My family (3 adult children), my husband and I stayed at the Hotel Colonial during the Christmas holidays 2016. I had first gone there in 1972 as a student from an American college. I had been back at least 3 times but never with my adult children in tow. What a memorable

This is a former monastary and my first floor room had loads of character with tiled floor, high decorative ceiling, big windows with shutters and a view over the pedestrian street and church. I loved it. The bathroom was a mosaic of colourful tiles. There was neither

The location is ideal. One block from El Zocolo, so gives you the convenience without so much of the noise. I did have a room over the street so that gave some noise. Room was very small, but adequate for my one night stay. Bathroom is very small, but didn't matter so much.

Hi Doug, My wife and I second Patrick's room advice. We stayed there three nights. We spent the day in Cholula (bus tour also) and also concur with his recommendation. There are several bus tour options, all leaving from the Zocalo, so check to see which one meets your needs before booking at the Tourist Information Office, located at the Zocalo.

"Get an inside room if you're wishing for noise free sleeping. If you want the "real" Puebla, a room with a balcony is for you."
"Ask for one of the spanish colonial style rooms if character is imortant to you."
"First floor (one above reception) has the most atmospheric rooms"
"Room 10 on the corner!"
"Corner rooms are spacious; those rooms that face the street often have little balconies that are fun."
