The Black Horse Inn garners accolades for its spacious and comfortably appointed rooms, which are celebrated for their unique horse-racing themes. While the staff's friendliness and professionalism are often highlighted, some guests have experienced slower service.
The hotel's top-notch amenities and its idyllic setting, complete with a traditional English Inn charm and a well-regarded pub, add to the appeal. Though opinions on value vary, cleanliness and a lively equine-themed atmosphere receive consistent praise from visitors, making it a notably welcoming stay.

We booked an over night stay here for 7th April. Upon arrival we instantly loved the atmosphere, buzzing with families eating Sunday lunch and people out having a couple of drinks. We were instantly welcomed with beaming smiles from Frankie and Mark offering us a drink. We were shown to the check in desk and again welcomed by a lovely member of staff, we didn’t catch her name unfortunately.
We checked in and were shown our room, the room had a horse theme and was called Arkles. It was tastefully decorated and very spacious. The smell of brand new carpets was the first thing we noticed. The room was fully equipped with bathrobes, towels, additional blankets, coffee machine, kettle, ironing facilities. A lovely touch of curly wurley’s too.
We went into the bar for a drink, there was plenty to choose from. Bar snacks were available such as a variety of different style chips as well as crisps and nuts. We didn’t try these as we were booked in for Sunday lunch. The Sunday lunch was beautiful, I had a trio of meats and my husband went for the beef. There was plenty of veg, a Yorkshire pudding and mountains of gravy. Our waitress Lily was outstanding, great service with a smile and checked in regularly to ensure we were ok. We then found out that she was only 14!! For a young girl she was a hard worker and very professional.
Then came night, the beds and pillows were so comfy! A great nights sleep had by us both.
Breakfast was amazing! Plenty to choose from eggs Benedict, eggs florentine, scrambled egg and salmon etc. there was fruit, cereal and toast also available. We chose to have the full Yorkshire breakfast. I’m not usually a fan of this type of breakfast but it was delightful, very tasty! Again the same person that checked us in the previous day also served us breakfast. A lovely member of staff making sure everything was perfect for our breakfast. The owner also came over and made conversation.
If you are ever in this area, this place is an absolute must to stay! It truly is a 5 star establishment.

We booked for an overnight stay at the Black Horse Inn, as a treat for my husbands birthday on Saturday night. We were 2 couples and had an overnight stay & dinner booked. We booked the room with the four poster bed, and it was absolutely beautiful. The bed was huge & very comfortable, and there were lovely homely added features throughout. The attention to detail was amazing, with both a kettle and a coffee machine in the room, along with wine glasses in case you wanted a tipple in the room, which we appreciated. There was also a stocked fridge with milk and orange juice, in the communal laundry room, which had a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. The staff were lovely, and very helpful, especially considering how busy they were. We had a table booked for dinner at 8pm, in the beautiful dining room, which was beautifully furnished, with huge comfortable seats, and a generous sized table. The 3 meat eaters had the most amazing meal, which both looked & apparently tasted delicious. I am Vegan, and unfortunately I hate to say it, but the vegan menu needs work. It was very mushroom heavy, and when the meal came, it very much felt like it was just thrown together as an afterthought, without the care and attention to detail of the non vegan meals. The sauce from the mushroom starter was missing, and the gnocchi was slimy & had half a bag of peas thrown on to it. While I very much appreciate that a vegan menu was available, as this isn’t always the case, unfortunately it was very much lacking in choice, flavour & execution, which was disappointing. I would go back again for food, but I would likely order some of the meat options, just minus the meat. I do understand that vegan options can be tricky though, but it might be an idea for the chef to consult a Vegan person when compiling the menu in future. The breakfast was amazing, and the staff accommodated me by making me an oat milk latte, which was yummy. The option of vegan butter for the toast would be a good addition, as unfortunately they didn’t have any, but that’s not a huge deal. All in all, we had an amazing time, in a beautiful hotel, with amazing staff, who went above and beyond, and we would definitely go back to stay again. Thank you so much from the Youngs & the Mills.

Wonderful stay at the Black Horse Inn. Lots of attention to detail in the rooms - kids loved their curly wurly and hot chocolate as did the adults. Staff very friendly and food was yummy. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will certainly be coming back.

The Hotel inn, is in a lovely location. Greeted on arrival by a non smiling member of reception staff not very friendly, found her a bit snotty with an attitude. She had black hair Middle aged not sure of her name as was not advised to us. We also had her as our waitress in the evening needless to say her attitude was still the same no service with a smile.
The Room we was put in was not the room as pictured on booking questioned we was told if we would have booked direct with the hotel and not expedia this would not happen. However in this case expedia are false advertising the rooms at your Inn as the room i stayed in is not on your website or Expedias
The room itself was dated not what we booked, and needs some attention on the decoration. The walls are very thin and can hear other guests showers and flushing of toilet and TV of a night.
The food in the restaurant was ok, however I ordered a special which was Satay Coconut Chicken with Rice, The rice was very dry and not enough sauce for the dish. however the Sticky Toffee pudding was very nice.
On check out we was checked out by a member of the breakfast staff and was presented with a Bill for our 2 night stay which we paid on time of booking after looking into this the room was taken back off the bill.

We required a place to stay for the night due to accommodation limitations with our work.
We first discovered the very big car park which was ideal for our hire van. We had booked online on the trip down, on arrival we were personally shown to our rooms.
The rooms were very nice. Bathtub in each room near the window. Hot chocolate, tea, coffee and a coffee machine are all provided which is a very nice touch. Shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and soap (bars and liquid hand gel) are all available in the bathroom along with multiple towels. The design and aesthetic of the room was very nice yet functional. There was a mini-fridge in the room with a bottle of water, which I would never expect for the price so was rather impressed. The only downside I experienced was a motor clicking on every so often, perhaps the fridge, but I am a very light sleeper so would probably not bother most people.
We did not eat at the restaurant but the food we seen other customers order looked and smelled very good. The bar has a decent selection of drinks, we found the Peroni to be rather pricy but the cider on tap was excellent and much better value.

We arrived late on the 10th Aug and were shown to our room Niginsky in the adjacent Coach house, the room was exactly as the pictures the attention to detail was extremely good welcome tray and cold water and fresh orange in kitchen on the landing was a nice touch. The Breakfast was without doubt the best we have had in a long time great choice on the cooked also fresh fruit and continental. I have been trying to put a review on Booking. Com since my return but have not been able due to a odd issue on there web site. It is a shame that you can not leave a private message to the owners on this site.

Great food - my shoulder of lamb really was delicious & my eggs Benedict at breakfast the same. The staff were friendly & my dog was made very welcome.
The bed linen was very good quality - beautiful to sleep in and I slept really well ( despite the best efforts of the fan in the bathroom which is on continuously).
Netflix, Prime etc wouldn’t work due to internet issues locally. Hardly essential.
It’s a lovely village to visit and very quiet overnight - my ground floor room was right on the road but I heard nothing even with the windows open.

We hope to see you and your four legged friend at the Black Horse in the not too distant future . Best Wishes from the Black Horse Team .

We had a fabulous stay in this amazing find. The location was lovely, staff friendly and helpful and food delicious. Bathroom in our room was gorgeous - large shower and slipper bath. Best hollandaise sauce I have ever had (and I have had a fair few). It's a great place if you are bringing your dog. We stayed in the spacious and lovely Shergar room, which has it's own little garden, which was welcome when puppy woke for a wee at 6am. The hotel also owns the large adjacent field. We ate in a large restaurant area for dog owners, which meant we were less likely to bother those who don't like dogs. Great value for money.

Myself, my husband and our two kids (aged 4 and 8) stayed here when we had a local event.
The room was perfect. Beautifully put together, clean and everything in working order. The dvd player and dvds were a nice surprise as was the hot chocolate and the bars of chocolate.
The bathroom had a wee tin of sanitary products in case of emergency! We’ve all been there!!
Such lovely wee touches which really made the difference.
We ate in the bar and I was so suprised at the quality of the meal we were given. It was honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time and so reasonably priced too.
The chef even wrote down the recipe for their pea salsa as I loved it so much.
We were made to feel so welcome. We played draughts and domino’s and enjoyed our time with our family without feeling rushed or feeling awkward when our kids made noise or moved around.
I’ve been raving about this place since we left and hope we get the opportunity to stay again.
Cannot recommend enough!

I stayed here as a lone traveller. The staff were so welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed. The room was beautiful with a slipper bath in the main bedroom and a separate shower room Excellent food and a breakfast hamper left outside my door as I was leaving before breakfast was served. Will definitely be back.

Our proximity at the top end of Yorkshire, 10 minutes from Scotch Corner makes us an ideal stop off for both leisure and business customers. Being a small family run hotel we do offer a home from home experience which makes us very popular with lone travelers. There is always someone looking for a natter which lends for a friendly atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are next in the area.
