The Room
Rooms were a bit on the smaller side, particularly when the mosquito net was around the bed – you could barely walk around it. There was only one electrical socket for the whole room which made charging cameras and phones a little challenging. 2 bottles of water in the room that were refreshed daily. Beds were really firm and made for an uncomfortable night sleep. No face washer in the bathrooms which would have been nice due to how dusty it was. Night escorts were always available and the paths were well lit and mostly even making the walk back to the rooms easy (although long)

Food & Drink
Great buffet with loads of different options. Was one of the better buffets that we came across. The chairs weren’t set out all that well however and we found it difficult to walk up to the buffet without bumping into people sitting at their tables.
Our group decided on a packed lunch, wasn’t great but one of those things that you put up with just so you don’t have to travel back from the park at lunch time. There were some fried foods that were included that were cold but very greasy and didn’t taste great

Wifi
We couldn’t get wifi in our room, and due to the limited power timing even at the main area when the power was on it was very average. Not sure if this was due to it’s location or the large amount of people all trying to use it in a limited time

Laundry
Well priced and returned on time – no issues at all with it

General
After dinner the main sitting area had some masai dancers which was not great. We had seen quite a few during our travels but this was the worst. It then appeared to be overtaken by Indian guests singing Karaoke. Disappointing as we didn’t come to Africa for that form of entertainment. Would have preferred something more African or even the peace and quiet to enjoy all the animal sounds. There was a little market set up near the rooms of the locals selling their products. I’m not sure how much was actually locally produced, but nice option to have it there is you wanted to buy anything.

We stayed 2 nights in this lodge during our safari with friends, organized by a travel agency.
You can find all comfort in this lodge, clean and comfortable beds with musketeers, bathroom with limited hot water, free bottle of water to wash your teeth, electricity in the morning and afternoon/ night time. As the electricity is provided by generators, it is cut during the day when customers are on Safari, which does not bother at all.
Open bar for food.
It is a decent and clean place to stay during your safari.
Don’t forget tips for the staff even though the Service need to be more active.
We stayed in the same brand hotel in Naivasha before coming to Masai Mara and the service of Naivasha Sopa lodge, the food quality and taste and the attention of the staff is not the same.

We stayed in the Sopa lodge for two nights as part of our three-day safari. The design of the space reflects traditiinal african, adding a special feel The rooms were quite spacious with all basic amenities (there was no tv but who wants to see tv during a safari?). The food, especially the Indian food section, was awesome. Staff was cordial. Especial shout out to Godfrey, who playrd and sang a hindi bollywood song (Tum hi ho) for us as part of evening entertainment at the bar. An intercom would add value to the offerings.

Dear Deepak, We truly appreciate taking your time to share your experience of our lodge here on TripAdvisor . We are pleased you liked our rustic property. Tucked in the remote of the Masai Mara National Reserve, blended with the architectural design of the local community makes Masai Mara Sopa Lodge truly a magical African experience. Thank you for the staff mention. Both are very excited to read your compliments. Chef Chris is an amazing vegetarian cook and often comes up with very surprising recipes and varied choices to cater for his wide client base. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that Godfrey is one of our employees in the electrical section of engineering department. Despite a long day, in the evening, you will spot Godfrey at the bar lounge cuddling his guitar, delicately striking the strings or on the keyboard, singing his heart out. Godfrey is very passionate about what he does. He has the ability to quickly learn his audience and plays what appeals to them. I am glad he impressed you. As management, we are very proud to have such talented employees as Godfrey and Chris. It was an absolute pleasure to host you and we look forward to your future return. As we continuously work towards improving our product offering, we will put your suggestion on intercom into consideration Thank you once again for your wonderful review. Kind regards, Ludi, GM & Mara Sopa Team

I had 2 nights booked for 2 rooms back in September. At our arrival all seemed good, but immediately they said they would give us only one room the first night because the other room had a window broken. I refused as I had paid 2 rooms, so at least I would need an immediate refund of that night and at least to see how bad the glass was. After 2 hours arguing with the two receptionists, Brian and Nigel, they finally called their duty manager Ludy. She was far from being friendly, helpful or client oriented. The option she gave me was to sleep on the employee’s house but no refund of my money. After 3 hours I came to the conclusion they had an overbooking. They were refusing to show the so-called broken window, refused to provide with the paid room, refused to refund me for accepting only 1 of the 2 rooms booked. The manager run away hiding from us as she did not want to talk to us and hanged up my travel agent several times on the phone. It was only when our travel company talked to the Sopa management in Nairobi that we were provided with an acceptable solution. I could have understood the overbooking, but it was their attitude and all the lies they built to cover themselves.
Contrary to that experience, the restaurant staff, the manager and our waiter they were extremely kind and nice to us. The hotel is really nice but spending 4 hours in the reception being treated as an idiot by the own hotel manager, is not what you expect from a hotel like this.

We stayed at Masai Mara Sopa Lodge for 2 nights while we were on Safari in Kenya. The lodge is located inside the Masai Mara National Park, that’s very important because most of the roads’ surface is very bad, full of pot holes, less time spent on the road, means more game viewing time.
The Lodge facilities are quite basic though. Our room had a reasonable size, but the shower wasn’t that great, no wifi in the room, even in common area where it supposed to be available, but it wasn’t working properly. We found the most inconvenient thing was the ration of power (it’s only supplied in the morning and evening), when it’s raining outside, inside can get very dark, we have to use the torch on the mobile phone to find things. May be the power can come on earlier in rainy days.
The positive side of this lodge is its staff, they are polite & helpful. Food are served in a large restaurant in buffet style, there are several cooking stations on site as well. Again the cooking staff are very nice and trying hard to satisfy guests’ requests.
Overall, it’s a nice lodge but it needs some improvements.

Nice place to stay in Masai Mara.
Very traditional place, mostly local staff with local knowledge I.e. our waiter lived in the local masai village.
Traditional style lodges, basic but beautiful. Electricity is only on certain hours of the day/nigt, although hot water is always on.
Decent food selection, although sometimes it wasn't the hottest.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Lovely large bar area around a fire place to relax in the evenings.
Nice swimming pool but it was quite cold this time of year!

Only 15 minutes or so drive from one of the Masai Mara gates, although you're technically within the park here anyway, it's more of a check point.
Lots of wild animals can be seen around the lodges, which is why security will escort you to and from your room during darkness.

Nice place to stay if you're wanting that authentic safari feel.

You can visit a local masai tribe. Officially you can walk there, it's not too far but I'd recommend having a driver take you down as the path is not clear and there are wild animals around! You pay $20 per person to the village chief who will show you around, explain their culture etc. This money is apparently shared with local tribes towards eduction for children.
One of the tribesmen then walked us back up to the lodge.
I suggest wearing closed toed shoes to walk around the village and back to the lodge.

A pleasant experience.

The lodge is situated amidst the picturesque landscape of the Maasai Mara, nice views and well maintained rooms and surroundings.
Very relaxing and connected with nature.

The accommodation is excellent. Spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated room with a touch of Africa (indeed). The four poster bed was something new.. The en-suite bathroom was one of the biggest I have ever seen.

Point to note - The lodges/accommodation is a few minutes pleasant walk from the reception, and the path is paved. You will enjoy the walk, but your baggage might not, especially luggage on wheels - so ask them for a buggy to dop the baggage. I saw a family making a mistake of pulling their bags on wheels, just that the wheels didnt reach the lodge.

Restaurant served tasty food with a variety of international, local & Indian dishes.

Very friendly and attentive staff, right from the front desk to the restaurant and the housekeeping staff, everyone was nice and relaxing.

Overall, Mara Sopa Lodge provided a pleasant and memorable experience in the Maasai Mara.
I would happily recommend Mara Sopa Lodge to anyone planning a trip to this beautiful region.

Arrived mid afternoon on the first day of our safari after a 5 hour drive from Nairobi for a 2 night stay.
We had cottage style accommodation with an en suite shower and mosquito nets for the evening.
We were staying on a full board basis with all food help yourselves buffet style which was fine and very busy with lots of safaris stopping here. On our 2nd day the Lodge prepared pack lunches for our party of 15 as we had a picnic under a tree on safari.
We sampled the bar in the evenings with the price for a beer and white wine 900 Kenyan schillings which is around £6.30.
With early rises each morning around 6 am we didn’t spend a lot of time in the bar.
Each night whilst dining our bed was turned down the mosquito nets were drawn round our beds and the room sprayed with insect spray
A good base for our first 2 nights on safari

Pros: The property is stunning and right inside the park. It also has an awesome great room to hang out in and some nice cultural programming in the evenings. Everyone on the staff was polite and kind.

Cons: (1) The food is incredibly mediocre. Just bland, cheap cuts of meat, lacking freshness or creativity. (2) Even though the staff are polite/kind they are poorly trained/not the most professional (I place blame here on the management, not the staff). Example 1: when going to lunch, in a nearly empty dining room, I asked to be seated at a different table near the window, and the waiter told me I couldn’t “because I was not special” (just a rough thing to say to a guest). Example 2: I requested a different room because they put us in one right by the delivery area for the restaurant and am a light sleeper. They moved us to the very last room in the back of the resort which was a 10 minute walk past the other rooms, and had clearly not been fully turned over when we got there. (Just poor judgement/not the best option that we could have been offered).

All in I would not stay here again. Quite rough around the edges for such a beautiful place.
