Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An adult only site which is a bonus. It’s obvious how much pride the family take in their site; it’s well kept and very clean and tidy. I will 100% be visiting again! Hookup available, toilets and showers. A small doggy pen too!

Arrived at the Site to be Greeted by very friendly owners who showed us to our pitch and offered any assistance . The grounds are Kept in immaculate condition . The pitches are level with Great views of the surrounding country side . The shower and toilet block was kept spotless with up to date fittings including underfloor heating . The only sounds we heard was the sheep . All in all if your touring the lakes this is a Great site not far from the M6 with easy access to Windermere etc would highly recommend and would definitely return to this Friendjy site whos owners obviously take pride in the site and their friendly customer service 😊😊

This is a lovely small site. When we arrived the owner took us to our pitch and offered to help get unhitched and was very helpful and friendly (even got some Kendal mint cake!!). The site is small (only about 23 pitches and half are used for permanent caravan owners). The grounds are well looked after and everything neat and tidy. The pitches are not huge but enough space for caravan, car and sun canopy. Toilet facilities are spotless. The ladies toilets comprise of two toilets and two sinks in one room and then there are two separate shower rooms which were lovely and warm with under floor heating. There is a small dog walk/poop area with poo bin and lovely views of the local farmland and sheep and cows. Only ten minutes from Kendal and everything you need is there. Would highly recommend.

Brilliant weekend, if your after peace and quiet when you go away then this is the site for you. Everything is extremely clean and tidy, plenty of space between pitches which are fully serviced with 16amp electrics. If you have any problems, Fred will help you sort them out. (Every site needs a Fred!)

We spent 2 nights in the Shepherds hut and totally enjoyed it. The owner is very friendly and helpful, they provided BBQ, gas and firewood. The hut is very clean and cosy, we would come back again and highly recommended this place when you come to Lake District.

We spent a lovely 4 nights at The Ashes recently. We are new to caravanning and this was our first trip. On arrival, the owner helped us to push the caravan into place which was really appreciated. He then gave us the code for the barrier and some Kendal Mint Cake. All pitches are fully serviced and hard standing. We didn’t put our awning up but if you had one this went on the hardstanding and your car went on the grass. The pitches aren’t huge but were adequate. The toilets were spotlessly clean, with underfloor heating. There were 2 separate unisex showers which had a large walk in cubicle. Despite the awful weather, including gale force winds, we had a lovely stay. The site is about 4 miles from Kendal, which we visited. We had a nice lunch in Ye Olde Fleece Inn which was really cosy with a much needed blazing real fire. We also visited Bowness and Ambleside. We also had a meal with family at The Wheatsheaf Inn at Brigsteer, which was a bit remote but worth the trip as the food was delicious. There wasn’t many people on the site while we were there, and several vans were static tourers, probably due to the weather. So if you want a quiet and peaceful adult only site, with only the sounds of the birds and the sheep, and with helpful owners, then this is the site for you. Ps. The Wi-Fi was excellent

We felt very lucky to stay in the beautiful Herdwick Shepherds hut over the Easter weekend. The hut is perfect for a break away - Val and Rachel have thought of everything you could possibly need for your stay. It was super clean and tidy and lovely and warm thanks to the underfloor heating. The kitchen was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom in the hut was great but there were also lovely facilities on the campsite (some of the nicest bathrooms we’ve seen). There was a fabulous BBQ for us to use which Val even very kindly cleaned after use. From the balcony, you have a beautiful view over the hills and fields and can watch the sheep being rounded up and sheepdogs being trained on a nearby farm. Our stay was truly perfect and would recommend the huts and caravan site to anyone.

Fantastic and peaceful camp site in beautiful location. Great for dog owners with a field available to let your dogs off the lead for a run. Facilities are spotless and staff are lovely and very helpful. We were greeted by a very nice gent who insisted on putting the caravan on its pitch for us . We were even given Kendal mint cake as a welcome gift. The location is excellent and we visited various places in the area - highly recommend a trip to Holker Hall which was stunning. Will definitely return to this well run site - 5 stars
