Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Captain Nemo's Landing is no more. I managed the place for its last year and when the property sold I bought the teepees. They are now in the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park area. Vista Ballena has comfy casitas, cozy, authentic teepees and camping. Visit our website: vistaballenacabopulmo.com

Los Barriles has gone to the dogs. Full of Mad Max vehicles driving around kicking up dust. Captain Nemo's has some really nice touches. Place to BBQ, nice outdoor kitchen and showers. Access to the beach is cramped by Gringoes big mansion homes on all sides so that the beach is just a patch full of boulders--sandy beach is cut-off. Carol who cares for Capt Nemo's hotel is great and has a wealth of knowledge. Really a nice hotel just in a junky spot. The word is that this place is being sold and may be turned into a private residence.

Jeff N is running quite the establishment. Initially my friends and I booked the entire house at one of Jeff’s other properties; however, we were redirected to Captain Nemo’s Landing promised the “penthouse” which is not what one would expect. The lovely manager Kelly does a great job making lemonade out of lemons.

I have looked so forward to riding the pirate ship. All of my friends laugh. I took my two three-year-old grandchildren and a four-year-old grandchild today. I had called and asked what age it was for and they said all ages I was very disappointed due to the fact it was so crowded. It was difficult to even have room for a water fight. When we played musical chairs there were six or eight chairs I can't remember and about 30 kids our three and four year old didn't stand a chance. They have a great concept and it would have been perfect if not so many children all at once. They need to have a older kid musical chairs and a younger kid musical chairs. My four-year-old granddaughter looked forward to it but it was nothing like what it should have been. We paid $169 for three adults and three kids under 5. It was 95 degrees and I wish the drinks would have had ice. I think the pirate ship is a great thing if they would just make a few adjustments for smaller children or at least tell that it's not the best for them. Maybe we need to just go at a less crowded time of the year.

This is the 2nd time that I came to Los Barriles in exactly one year and both times I stayed at Captain Nemo's. I had been there exactly 1 year ago and that was beacause of the good 1st experience thatI came back to stay at the same place. Both years. the very friendly and helpful personnel (Julie and Dave) really made us feel at home. The wind and sea are quite perfect for kitesurfing and Captain Nemo's is at a convenient walking distance to the beach. I just walk down the alley, find a nice spot of sand to rig my kite and hit the water for several hours. Captain Nemo's is also located just out of town, so it's a nice quiet place. No light pollution either, so the sky is really bright at night. It's also at a convenient walking distance to Tres Palapas Pickleball Baja where you can play pickleball in a very modern and well equipped facility. You can also have a very healthy breakfast there or all meals if you'd like to.

I enjoyed the camp hosts Dave and Julie, they are hospitable and keep the place up. So here are some things though about the place. The toilets don't flush toilet paper so you have to put it in a trash can beside the toilet. The propane to cook with is on the weak side and takes awhile to boil something. The beds are a bit hard and small inside the TeePee. What I loved about it was staying inside the tee pee and hearing the Mobius Rays jumping and slapping in the ocean at night. You aren't beach front at this property and you can't kitesurf from the property. If you are to stay at this place I would recommend a rental car as it is in the middle of nowhere but close to the ocean. The biggest negative to me was dealing with Jeff the owner. He double booked our place and some other people we met while down there. Since he organizes the bookings etc... this put the camp host in a touch spot as people were showing up that had reservations and others being forced to move or leave. Poor organizational skills on his part.

Response from Jeff N, Owner at Captain Nemo's Landing
Responded 13 Feb 2018
All of Baja requests you don't flush toilet paper, that's just part of living in Baja. The Palmas Hotel has their own sewer system so you can flush away there if you want to pay $225/nt as opposed to $35/nt. There are two burners that work adequately and we have never had this complaint and not sure why you just wouldn't use the microwave.

Very quiet place away from noisy downtown. Very clean and tidy. Hosts Jeff, Julie and David are very nice, friendly and helpfull. Each day I Walked from Nemo’s, with the kitesurfing gear under my arm, to the North Beach which is contiguous. Fantastic kitesurfing, including a downwind from Nemo’s to La Ribera, 11 nautical miles to the south (organise a pickup to return back home. Within 5 min walk there is the 3 Palapas Pickleball Resort with the best breakfast in town. If instead of a luxury 5 star hotel, you are looking for an authentic simple and friendly place to stay I recommend Nemo’s

Sleeping in a TP was just like sleeping in a TP would be. There were no bugs, we had a fan, was cool enough, the air was fresh the moon was bright. Captain Nemos facilities for breakfast in his open air kitchen and the bathroom facilities are great. Everything was clean and neat and the hosts were wonderful.

This spot is quite simple & lovely. Choices of tipi's,casitas, or RV no service spot is what you have to choose from. It's a great place for a bunch of people or even solo as it has its own very friendly & loving dog, Nemo. Clean with all the amenities you need with an outdoor covered kitchen & BBQ area. Such a gem as at night with no lights it's a sky full of stars & gorgeous morning sunrises. Nice stay that's affordable & easy to come & go from just yards from the beach.

I was passing by Los Barriles on my way to Cabo. I looked for a cheap place to stay and landed at Nemo's. I thought the Teepee would just make for a good photo op and was surprised by how much I enjoyed staying there. Who ever heard of a teepee with a comfortable bed. The shared outdoor kitchen dinning area was a good spot to hang out and meet other travelers. This place is surrounded by a beautiful desert.
