Detailed Reviews
We stayed in Gardener’s Cottage which was beautifully cosy for 2 plus our collie dog. Fabulous location with great walks right as you step out of the door. Use of the lawned gardens was also appreciated. The cottage is well fitted out with high end fixtures and fittings, which contrast to the old building itself. Everything we needed was provided, and communication prior to our arrival was timely and welcoming. The cottage was immaculately clean. Great stay.

This was our second stay at No2 and our fifth stay in one of the Alstonefield holiday cottages. Needless to say we love it here! Only an hour away from home but it really is a getaway from it all whilst being a home from home for us. The design, layout and finish of every property is fantastic and everything is provided for. Towels and linens are five star hotel quality and I was super impressed that my feather allergy was catered for with non-feather bedding this time.
We managed three long walks up hill and down dale and discovered that The Druid Inn near the Nine Ladies Druid circle now serves really good food now it is under new management. We could obviously only sit outside so don’t know what it is like indoors but the food was very good.
It was great to be the first guests back to No 2 after the lockdown restrictions and we can’t wait to be back again in the not too distant future. Thank you again Rob and Jo for your wonderful hospitality.

My wife and I, oh and the dog Rosie, stayed at the No. 2 Church Street cottage in the first week of September.
On entering the cottage we immediately fell in love with it. A lovely entrance into the lounge and dining area. The lounge having a very comfy sofa and a single fireside chair. And yes, there was a lovely log burner, which, due to good weather we did not use, albeit lots of wood available.
The dining area was perfect to eat more formally than the kitchen.
The kitchen, spacious enough to accommodate a small breakfast table and roomy enough for all the pots, pans, utensils, kettle, microwave, toaster, oven, electric hob, mini-dishwasher and fridge with a freezer compartment inside.
A rear door leads to the shingled cottage garden, beautifully presented with a bistro table and two chairs. Log store here too.
Heading upstairs via a small flight of wooden stairs from the lounge into the bedroom. Beautiful. A king size bed with lovely pillows and linen. And via a pair of doors straight into the bathroom with automatic switch on running lights as you enter.
Lovely bath with a hand-held shower attachment.
The cottage is located in a fabulous village, quiet and beautifully presented.
The George pub is no more than a 100 yards away.
As for walks, countless from the front door of varying difficulty levels.
We were fortunate enough to meet Jo and what an absolutely lovely lady. She is so friendly, genuine and accommodating.
We had one of our best cottage holidays ever. The cottage, the walks, the surrounding area, along with the locals, made this such a memorable holiday and we were sad to leave ... but we hope to return in the not too distant future.

This was our fourth stay in one of the Alstonefield Cottages, the third time at one of the cottages at Parwich Lees. We had a wonderful stay in Curlew Cottage. We love the upstairs living and kitchen area offering a sweeping view of the stunning countryside which changes dramatically with the weather.
The decor is lovely, beds are super comfy, a generous supply of logs for the stove and as always, spotlessly clean. We did have problems with the internet and couldn't really access it, even though the WIFI signal was strong. Rob kindly came over to take a look to make sure the routher was working and it was, so we assume was an issue with BT in the area. Apart from that, everything was as perfect as ever. One suggestion or request I do have is to provide an option for anti-allergy bedding. Each time we have stayed we have had to bring our own duvet and pillows due to a feather allergy.
Thank you for another relaxing stay and we can't wait to be back again soon!

We spent 4 nights in the Garden Cottage at the turn of the Autumn season this year! The cottage was cosy and perfect for a couple escaping the noise of the outside world! The bed was comfortable, lounging area extremely cosy with a little wood burner fire and the kitchen well stocked to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner if needed. The owners had paid attention to detail when it came to cleanliness and following COVID guidelines. We were very grateful for the laminated maps in the cottage which gave us walks we could do straight from the cottage into the Dales. We walked to Hartington as well as the Dovedale Steps. Our evening meal at the George Inn in the village was exceptional and definitely worth booking in and we also got delivered a meal from Claire Linley in the village (Great fish pie and bakewell tart)!

The Gardners Cottage is beautifully finished with modern and tasteful decor. It had everything we needed for a weekend stay including walking guides, board games and an open fire. There is a gorgeous garden, set in a beautiful, peaceful surrounding area with plenty of walks on the doorstep or a short drive away. The George pub, a short walk away, is excellent - more of a restaurant than a pub - we preferred Sunday lunch to the Friday tasting menu but that's just personal preference. Be sure to book.
Gardners Cottage is one of the smaller accommodations available as part of Alstonefield Manor - perfect for 2 people and great value. It's snug and cosy! We'd love to come back and see some of the other accommodation available.

We had a lovely four night stay in Gardener's Cottage. The cottage is comfortable, very well equipped for a couple and perfectly situated for exploring Dovedale and the surrounding area. We particularly enjoyed walk number three! (on a sheet in the house). It was great that tea, coffee, snacks and milk had been provided for our arrival - very welcoming . More practically, cleaning, washing up equipment and soap also provided so no need to bring these for a short stay.

Met my oldest school friend at no.1 Church Street for a 3 night stay. We were looking for somewhere we could relax and catch up whilst also seeing some lovely scenery. The cottage very much delivered. It was cosy and warm with a lovely woodburning stove, comfy sofas full of cushions, a charming little dining table and a pretty roll top bath. It has been beautifully decorated and the interior colours are calming and just lovely. The kitchen, whilst small, is very well equipped and everything was so clean. Every detail has been thought of, from luxury handsoaps and moisturisers at both sinks, to full provision of scourers and cloths in the kitchen, to laminated maps of local walks to games for the evening and plenty of logs for the fire. It really was a home from home.
We did a couple of stunning walks right from the doorstep walking through Milldale and on to Dovedale. We also ate dinner on the Saturday night at The George, a stone's throw from the cottage where we had a delicious 7 course tasting menu.
All in all a really lovely break.

We stayed in the Estate Rooms for a long weekend and absolutely loved it.
Information from Robert and Jo was excellent, including answering the many questions I had!
The estate rooms themselves were gorgeous - separate entrance, beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, hot shower, lots of kitchen equipment.
Location is great, a short walk to The George where we had a fantastic meal, and we walked out from there to spend two full days exploring the local dales and simply leaving the car in the car park.
The only downside was poor WiFi so we spent the last two days without any, but it was a good opportunity to put the phones down!
Highly recommended - we would love to stay again.

We had a lovely short break at the Estate Rooms, Alstonefield Manor in June this year. This was a fantastic location for exploring the area, and we enjoyed coming back to the spacious and luxurious rooms after our walks in the Derbyshire Dales. Robert and Jo made us so welcome and it was delightful to be shown round the wonderful gardens - all so beautifully maintained. Thank you!
