Nestled in a prime ski-in/out location, Sunshine Mountain Lodge garners praise for its cozy ski lodge atmosphere and stunning views, with guests particularly appreciating the cleanliness and unique mountain setting. However, reviewers have called out that the rooms tend to be overly warm and lack modern touches, with some feeling the services are overpriced. The staff's friendliness and professionalism are frequently commended, though some guests have experienced issues with service speed. Notwithstanding its remote location and a few dining and transportation limitations, the lodge's amenities like scenic gondola rides remain a highlight for many travelers.

Great Experience at the Lodge, Room was available an hour earlier which was great. Staff were overly friendly and helpful! The rooms were much more spacious than I anticipated and the restaurant provided the best meal i've had in the 4 months I've been in Canada. The Server was the height of professional (Arnud i think his name is - French guy!). My only "suggestion" would be that our room's window didn't open and the room was quite hot, even with the heating turned to the lowest setting.

Five star location, five star prices, two star food/room service. I recognize the difficulties during COVID, however When you pay over $600 for a room and serve $45 entrées I would expect proper cutlery with my room service. I would also expect my order of exorbitantly priced toast To be toasted on both sides not just one. It should also include more than one mini piece of bread. Small things like metal cutlery, A carafe of coffee rather than 2 paper cups, and condiments in serving dishes would have made a world of difference. I have stayed at and supported other local hotels during these difficult times and feel that they have found safe ways to make their guests feel like they are on vacation while keeping everyone safe.

We've stayed at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge multiple times now at this point, both in the summer and winter. This stay was consistent with every other stay - fantastic service, great rooms and unbeatable location. While the Lodge is remote and only accessible via gondola, with some planning ahead, it's not an issue. Plus, the resort has plenty of amenities that allows guests to stay on the mountain without needing to travel into Banff. The rooms has always been a huge selling point for our family. Though small, the storage and shelving is perfect for hiking or ski gear. We've never had an issue as a family of three staying in one of the smaller rooms because there is a place for everything, including all our bathroom items. And, of course, it's the perfect location for skiing or hiking. The ski lockers are super convenient as well as roomy for skis, boots, helmets and other gear. In the summers, we love starting our hikes from Sunshine and venturing out into Banff National Park. There are countless trails accessible from the Lodge. No complaints from us!

Dorm like rooms. Very small bed and quarters made for an uncomfortable stay. No fridge to store food and very limited and overpriced food selection at the restaurant especially if you have any diet restrictions. Both meals I ate were practically inedible. Although it was a convenient location to spend the night so we could get out skiing early, and the staff were excellent it was not worth $320!

The hotel has a great location, right on the slopes and is quite nice. Hotel staff at check-in at the base and hotel front desk all were very friendly and helpful. The hot tub is nice but could use an update and some repairs. Mold in the room's bathtub definitely needs to be taken care of, otherwise the rooms are small but nice and comfy and well equipped.
The only major downside and definitely a reason to never stay there again is the F&B part of the hill. Dinner at the hotel was mediocre at best, service matched the food. Breakfast was extremely slow (1.5 hours total) and food simply inedible. The only good food we had was at Trappers Pub. It's simple but decent pub food.
After seeing the job ad from Aramark for the resort chef as well as hotel chef I'd highly recommend to match the manager's salaries to the high prices you're charging your guests. Maybe that way you could actually deliver the quality of food and service that would match the price guests are charged.
The conclusion of all this is that there is great potential for a fabulous spot to spend a few days but as it is right now I'll never return and no one in our group will either.

Very cool location and they do a great job with the check-in service. The bags come to your room, the ski locker is super convenient, and you cannot beat the location. Unfortunately, with Covid, a lot of the activities were restricted once the hill was closed, but the hot tub area looked like it would be nice, I think there is a gym and games room as well, and potentially a room to watch movies? None of this was open for us and the rooms are tiny, so not optimal to be stuck in them, but we knew what we were getting into before we booked and that is no fault of the hill. Rooms are super dry, they do provide a humidifier, but ours didn't work. Rooms are pretty basic, just coffee machine, kettle and tv (no fridge or microwave) so it's not the best for bringing your own food, but the mountain top prices are pretty steep. However, you can load up a cooler and they will bring it to the top for you, and there is an ice machine in the lobby to keep it cold.

We stayed at SML over Spring break as a family of 4 and it was wonderful. This was our first time staying at the lodge with a 7 and 11 year old. We were greeted promptly at check in and our luggage arrived in our room within the hour. We stayed in the Loft and it was amazing! There was lots of space for our family of 4. The beds were very comfortable and room clean. There were lots of towels and toiletries. Someone came by everyday to replenish cups, creamers, coffee or hot chocolate for the Keurig machine. There was a small kettle but no fridge or microwave. There were 4 bottles of water which you are to use to refill each day. We left our water, juice and milk on the balcony and it never froze as the temperature outside was not that cold during the time that we stayed.

The loft had lots of storage for clothing but the main floor had none which was fine. I only needed a few things from the luggage and just lived out of it for the 4 nights that we were there. There were robes and slippers as well which was a pleasant surprise as the floors can sometimes get cold (although it was warm once the in-floor heating kicked in). There were lots of hangers and hooks to hang our coats and snow pants and a nice table and seating near the fire place. We could see the Strawberry chair lift view from the balcony. I even took some pictures of my family as they skied past our room. Being able to go back to the room to rest, warm up and have a snack and some hot chocolate was also a real treat.

The downstairs bathroom has a jetted tub but no shower. There is, however, a hand held shower head that you can remove to shower little ones in the tub. The upstairs bathroom has a shower but the bathroom overall is quite small. It was convenient to have 2 bathrooms but I found myself washing up downstairs as it had more room.

We ate at the Chimney restaurant 3 times for dinner and the food was not bad. Pricey but not as bad as we thought given previous reviews. All the staff at the lodge were super friendly and helpful. My husband had forgotten his cell phone in the car and skied down to get it. He forgot his hotel pass to get back up the gondola and the staff at the check in at the bottom of the gondola gave him a 1 day pass to get back up.

When we checked out, the staff at the bottom of the gondola even helped bring the luggage out to our car which was totally unexpected but appreciated! Overall, my family and I had a great vacation!

We booked this location for a “surprise summer skiing” trip to Sunshine for the end of June/beginning of July. The price difference between staying on the hill versus in town and driving in was worth every penny, and more! The location can’t be beat. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, personable, and accommodating. Driving in from Edmonton we didn’t arrive until midnight when the gondolas and shuttles were finished for the night, and the staff stuck around and ensured we made it up to the lodge. They were helpful and conversational. The room itself was the nicest/highest quality of ski resort rooms we’ve stayed in by far. 10/10 would recommend!

The Eagle Suite did not disappoint - large windows and balcony with views overlooking the entire hill, including Goat's Eye. Room was large and clean. The suites in the main lodge are more dated than the newer west wing suites. If you want more of a "luxury room" go with the west wing - the bathrooms are larger and rooms well designed. However, if you want the best views, go with the Eagle or Goat's Eye suite, though there really isn't a bad view if you get a room facing the hill.
Staying on the hill is a great option if you want fresh tracks in the morning and to avoid parking hassles. The hotel guests park in an area behind the main building at the base of the gondola and the ski out has a cut off that leads right to it. It's also handy just to drop your bags and go skiing, and then come back to the room with everything brought up for you. Each room has a storage locker as well for ski gear on the main floor of the lodge, which area leads right out to the Standish chair.
Although food options are not plentiful on the hill, the Chimney Corner never disappoints and Trappers is a fun vibe.
The outdoor hot tub is lovely after a long day of riding too. We booked massages and both of us were very impressed with the services received, so treat yourself! The spa is connected to the hot tub area, and you get robes and slippers in your room. So we just showered off in the bathroom/locker area after our massage and hopped into the hot tub.
As always, the staff was pleasant and made our stay enjoyable.

I got the standish suite which was ultimately 50ft from the standish lift for 4 nights last week of April ... Each room is provided with a ski locker which is extremely convenient. The bell staff from the parking lot was fantastic getting all the luggage up to the room in a timely manner. With Covid there was not in person dining in the restaurants however all the food was prepared well and hot when delivered. (recommend the eagles nest beef tenderloin). The patio outside the chimney's corner was open for a cold beer at the end of the day which once everyone was gone was a nice way to relax as it was very quiet. I have stayed when everything is open as well and love going to Trappers for food and Hockey games on tv in the evening. The spring skiing was quite good with no lift lines during the week so was able to get a lot of runs in. Overall an excellent stay

Hi The lodge website has the timetable for the shuttle from Caribou int their website under getting there. After these slots, you should arrange for a private transportation taking into consideration that the Gondola that will take you up to the lodge operates till 5:00 pm. The lodge is a great choice. Enjoy!

When I stayed (both winter and summer), I parked and checked in at the desk at the bottom of the hill. The Lodge took my luggage and skis up separately and I just rode the gondola. The luggage was then delivered to my room, something like 1/2 hour later.
