I had a very nice stay at Hotel Arts. Not sure why it’s classed as 3 star as I believe it is better than that. The decor is very nice with some interesting pieces particularly through the lobby. The staff on the front desk were friendly & helpful. It’s an easy short walk to the Tower & the centre of town.

My room was a good size, clean and comfortable. It’s a bit of a pity there is no fridge but it’s betterenvironmentally as they burn a lot of energy. There are a heap of TV channels available, the wifi is a bit slow but you can pay $10 a day for a faster speed.

I found their restaurant offered a good breakfast and the seperate bar area had simulated golf games available.

My only negatives was the pool area was closed due to a conference being held at the time and the current noise due to repairs of the balconies. But maintenance needs to happen at some stage & hard to do it noise free. Due to be completed at the end of October 2022.

Housekeeping is carried out daily unlike some other 4 star hotels I have stayed at throughout Canada which use Covid as an excuse not to do it.

Overall a very pleasant stay.

Perfect location, great pool, clean rooms. Property indicates dinner reservations are necessary, however we had to leave the hotel to have breakfast as it was a 2 hour wait for walk-ins. Would have been good to be given same heads up about morning reservations so we could have ordered room service.

Booked Hotel Arts for our wedding night.was debating between Hotel Arts and another equally rated/expensive hotel. Booked Hotel Arts since it had "breakfast included" in the price. Had a friend check in early for us so we could simply go up to the room when we got there late. They didn't give him a key. So we went to front desk after our wedding to get a key. Almost didn't get the key because I didn't have my ID on me as it was in my bag in the room, but front desk staff was understanding and kind so we were able to figure this out.
Biggest issues we had were with breakfast- staff at the yellow door bistro were very rude on our first day and turns out 'free' breakfast was only good for up to $20 a person which almost every item on the menu is almost over this amount and non alcoholic drinks aren't included. Tiffany manager on duty for the hotel cleared up these issues but still left feeling less then impressed. On the second morning the new staff were much better and more attentive.
The room itself was nice and large. Wine glasses were dirty with lip stick marks and we had to get new ones sent up. Room was lacking some amenities you would expect in a hotel for that price (such as real coffee creamer, water ($5 a bottle??) I mean they had "no name coffee Whitener" but for the price for the room I expected more )
The pool and pool staff made the stay. Special thanks to Jean and his friendly and attentive service.
We were told by one staff there was "a hot tub in the spa" and on our second day when the weather was less then optimal (pool is outside) we asked front desk if we could use this hot tub in the spa to which they responded "there is no spa or hot tub, only a pool" I mean no biggie but why would one staff say there was a spa?
TLDR: Hotel arts was nice, but overpriced, and 'free' breakfast wasn't actually "free" but "discounted" pool was best part of the hotel for sure. Staff at pool is amazing.

Response from Werna Boek, Other at Hotel Arts
Responded 15 Sept 2021
First of all, congratulations and thank you for choosing Hotel Arts on this very special night. We understand there are a lot of accommodation options and I do want to extend my sincerest apologies for a less than optimal experience. For those fellow travelers reading this review and curious about our breakfast package options, we do have several breakfast rates as well as our Staycation and All Inclusive packages, all with varying credits or full breakfast options. The rate booked here was a "credit" which works out to essentially a "2 for 1" breakfast in terms of the rate you would have paid. There is certainly no excuse for poor cleanliness, and your feedback around additional desirable amenities will be considered. As not all of our rooms have fridges the real cream is a little harder to accommodate but we do offer fridges upon request and can certainly have real cream delivered and noted on your profile for future stays. I apologize that you were misinformed about the availability of a hot tub and spa and we will ensure that some of our newer staff are properly advised of all in-house amenities - we do not have a hot tub but we do have a spa on-site that is operated by a third-party provider and appointments can be booked in advance with a link to their menu available via our website. Since your stay we have put our "toque" back on our pool for the long Calgary winter months and I hope you may have an opportunity to come back and enjoy our endless summer here at Hotel Arts. I am so glad to hear that the staff made your stay and I do hope you will choose Hotel Arts again for future special occasions! Yours in Hospitality, Werna Boek Director of Operations

COVID precautions lacking. Only 2 restaurant staff and a handful of housekeepers were masked during our stay. No signs reminding people of the importance of masking, physical distancing, or to limit the elevator to a single family group. Few visitors were masked in public areas. I chose to wear a mask to protect myself; however, beyond my control was the noise level at this hotel. Late afternoon bachelorette party happening at the pool that I could hear in the hallway on the second floor. (Keep this in mind if you're thinking of booking a pool-facing room.) At 11:30 p.m. a couple began fighting the hallway. That prompted a guest's dog to begin barking. Thumping music made it seem like our room was over a nightclub. Messaged front desk. They said they'd send over security to check it out. Couple stopped fighting in the hallway, but music continued until after 12:30 a.m. After 1 a.m., a group of drunken, loud-talking "bros" decided to stroll down the hallway. As for the room, the balcony is tiny and won't fit a chair. The TV is too small to comfortably watch from the bed. Water is $5 for a 250 ml bottle. Coffee is Keurig, which is disappointing since nearby luxury hotels offer Nespresso. Pool is a rectangle, nothing special. No hot tub. No bar in the hotel to have a drink before dinner. Only option is poolside, where you can get a free show from drunken bachelorette partygoers. (Beware if you're planning to take young children to the pool in the afternoon.) Wifi is free, but there's a $10 charge if you stream Netflix and so on. If you're over the age of 25 and looking for a peaceful place to recharge, this is not it. Spend a few extra dollars and stay at an actual luxury hotel that pampers its guests, and puts their safety and comfort first. There are plenty nearby. But if you're in the market for a bougie frat house, this is your spot.

Positives: Convenient location downtown with many places to eat and drink within walking distance. Book a breakfast at the pool. We were lucky that some reservations didn't show up, so we were given their spot. Room was spacious.

Thank you so much for your detailed account of your most recent stay here at Hotel Arts. For the comfort of any potential future guests reading this review, I want to assure you that we have followed all required Covid protocols throught the past 18+ months, and at the time of this stay, there were no restrictions or guidelines in place and therefore the atmosphere may have appeared more relaxed, however, we continue to ensure that additional cleaning of a very high standard is maintained in all areas, and all staff are screened for symptoms daily. It is unfortunate that not all guests are equally respectful of their fellow travelers, and please accept my apologies if our security team did not address this as diligently as they shold have. A good night's sleep is certainly a very basic expectation when staying at any hotel. Our Yellow Door Bistro boasts a bar that is open Wednesdays - Sundays at this time. As our pool will be equipped with its winter "toque" immediately after the long weekend it tends to be a little quieter and more family-friendly ove rthe winter months, and I do hope that perhaps we can welcome you back for a winter staycation, as it is truly a wonderful escape, in particular should travel remain restricted. I do hope you will give Hotel Arts another opportunity to more accurately show you our brand of hospitality!

For a premium hotel and cost, having soap dispensers mounted on wall like a YMCA really distracts from the experience, even if the shower did work. And the shower didn't work. If jackhammers start at 9:30 AM, then hotel should offer compensation - free meals or something for those who are still in hotel at that time.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of your most recent stay here at Hotel Arts - it is feedback such as this that allows us to continuously improve our services and amenities. Our soap dispensers are part of our efforts to be environmentally friendly, reducing the waste caused by small bottles to our landfills, and we work with a local company to provide upscale shower amenities. There is certainly no excuse for poor maintenance and I hope that our maintenance team was able to address the shower concern. The balcony construction was an emergency repair and we realize the impact on our guests is not ideal, hence we made every effort to advise of this work through our website and confirmation emails. I do hope that you will consider choosing Hotel Arts again as I am confident we can create an exceptional experience if given the opportunity. Yours in Hospitality, Werna Boek Hotel Manager

Great hotel, super friendly staff. We went New Years Eve and the hotel was decorated beautiful and all the staff were friendly and helpful. If you want your car underground, park it yourself a block or so away otherwise you will have to pay the Valet $30! If you want room service, expect to pay 17% gratuity and an additional $4 for service fee on top of the overpriced food. We found there were so many great places to eat in walking distance to the hotel that were not going to gauge us for these additional fees.
Elevator broke down and was several hours to fix, thank goodness we were only on the 4th floor! All in all a super nice place if you are there just for the room and perhaps the pool.

Poolside suite was amazing and the weather cooperated. I would recommend to anyone staying with a group of four to get the upgrade to the poolside suite. It was well worth the extra money and if the pool is busy, you can always chill on the massive balcony in the room. Five stars

We were looking for someplace to celebrate our Anniversary, but with no indoor or even patio dining, unable to travel, and a cold wet weekend in the forecast, we did some searching for something different and discovered Hotel Arts. They had a special that included a lovely balcony king room, underground parking, a delivered to the room wonderful supper that included an appetizer, main course, desert and a bottle of wine, along with an in room movie rental, popcorn, candy and soft drinks. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful (we asked about a particular store nearby and they offered to drive us there!)
Simply a great stay, a good value, and something that we will do again, for sure.

Great Hotel, Very Clean, 2 hour time limit at the pool for staying and paying hotel guests needs to be reevaluated when the pool is not busy. The poolside servers are amazing and pleasant to deal with.
We spent over $200 at the pool on food and drinks and were asked to leave after 2 hours even though there was plenty of space.

We picked Hotel Arts because of the funky atmosphere super cool looking pool and wanting to support an independent. Its an old hotel..that is using art to freshen up. Room HVAC is too old and loud to use...room needs better cleanliness and basics to work well. Hotel Pool was closed for construction. ugh. It was just plain too much money for what it was...works well at $150 per night...not $265.

Hi there, one of the balconies has lounge chairs and a 4 top table, and the other only has a 4 top table with chairs and umbrella. We are unable to confirm the specific room number when booking but can add the preference for the room with lounge chairs.
