A group of 6 of us stayed in the cabin over the Sept long weekend. We hiked in via Maccarib through snow and rain to be greeted with hot drinks, a wood stove, and cinnamon buns. The hospitality was incredible. The beds were so comfortable. And even with the clouds and mist, the views were breathtaking. We rowed across the...

Our extended family of nine just spent 4 nights, five days with Sara, Kable and their team in their beautiful backcountry 'home' and it's a trip we won't soon forget. Very clean, cozy cabins with wonderful duvets, soft flannel sheets and a wood stove with views that take your breath away. We started each day listening for the clanging of...

It's been just over a week now since visiting Tonquin Valley Backcountry Lodge with my sister and cousin and I'm doing everything I can to convince my husband that we need to return soon! The lodge and ladies specializing in feeding, lodging, advising and listening to us are beyond imagination for comfort, and care in a backcountry environment. I have...

We loved our four night stay at the lodge. The Tonquin Valley is the most beautiful place, and I feel so lucky to have been able to spend several days in it. Our time at the lodge was by far the best part of our two week trip to the Canadian Rockies. We also loved getting to know the other...

Tonquin Valley is spectacular. A 20Km + hike over Mcarrib Pass climbs up and down and up again. You have climbed 2500ft before you begin the descent into the valley. Parts of the trail cross wetlands and the trail can be very muddy. The Lodge sits in a beautiful spot beside Amythest Lake. The cabins are small and cosy with...

My husband & I hiked in for a 3 night stay in late July - it was a definite highlight of our 2 week holiday! The hike in (over maccarib pass) is just gorgeous and not nearly as hard as we were expecting... The cabins are basic but cosy (once we sussed out the stoves) and the cook house is...

My 13 year old daughter and i went looking for a horseback-centric excursion... and we found it in their 4-day trip to Tonquin Valley! Kable and Sara (and staff) run a tight ship. They are focused on service, while in a rustic environment. I am not easily impressed when i travel, but they hit the mark! The cabins are very...

We can add little new to the glowing reviews for Tonquin Valley Backcountry Lodge other than our first impressions, some thoughts on the value you get for your money, and a few items to bring. We hiked in on 22 August 2014. The hike in is about 15 miles, which we covered in seven hours. We would consider ourselves strong...

Our group of five hikers (most ages bet 66-69) started at Astoria trailhead on a bluebird perfect day in mid September 2014 and took 8 hours to arrive at the Lodge. Our packs weighed bet 15-25 lbs. depending on amounts of water/libations we carried. Spectacular scenery at every corner of the turn, but trail predominantly wet/muddy vs. dry. Recommend good...

“Choose a room with horses in the front yard. And if you want to see the Perseid Meteor shower check on the internet for the best days. I just happened to be there from August 11 to 15 which was the best time in 2013 to see the meteors.”
