Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is pretty recent, well located (5 min walk away from downtown), clean and they do have some nice breakfast options and food options during the day. You can have dormitory rooms, or private rooms as well, and they have parking as well for free. However, the parking can be full quickly if the hostel is at full capacity so you might need to work further down the street.

We booked this hostel as part of our road trip around the Canadian Rockies and were pleasantly surprised by this hostel. It is a great location (only a 5 minute walk into the main town). It is very modern, clean and the communal areas were well equipped.

Our only slight niggles - the room could be very hot meaning we had to sleep with the window open letting in all the noise of the nearby train, which ran every 30-60 mins 24 hours a day! The bathrooms/ showers are to connected to 2 rooms meaning you have 8 people sharing one toilet and shower which could be an issue if you had a couple of people needing to be ready at the same time.

I was able to walk off the street and into the lobby, over a weekend in July, and book the most affordable room in town. The price simply cannot be beat. As a solo traveller I paid less than half what I would have spent at another hotel.
I’ve stayed at many hostels in my travels, this one was exceptional. The staff was accommodating to rooming preferences, the on-site facilities (including full kitchen and huge common space) were so useful, and the attached cafe is a charming addition. And there’s so much storage space, including a room locker, a pantry cubby, and space in an industrial fridge (with all your foods in your own plastic container)—excellent for those backpacking.
The site is located a little off the main downtown road, and can be tricky to find at first, but after that it’s easy.
At the end of a long day of hiking, it was nice to come back to a comfortable bed, with clean sheets, and a soft pillow.

I stayed here in a private room for 3 nights in September 2020. My room had a queen bed, two nightstands with lamps, a chair, hooks on the wall, a full length mirror,a big window that opened, a fan, a large tv, and my own bathroom with a shower. Bedding and towels were supplied. There was lots of room for my stuff. The bed was super comfortable. I never heard any noise from any other room, but this hostel is right on the train tracks which can be very noisy at anytime of the day or night, however there were earplugs supplied. I did use the kitchen which was the nicest I’ve ever seen in a hostel. They had a sign up system for using the kitchen due to COVID and I felt safe with the protocols they had in place. This hostel is clearly very new, and in great shape and very, very clean. With my HI discount it cost a little over $500 CAD. Right now in Jasper there are other places I could stay that are in this price range, but it seems that the reviews on these places are often sketchy. I would stay again at HI Jasper and would recommend it to others.

Traveled from Edmonton area with our daughter and her 3 small children (ages 7, almost 3 and only 3 months old!) for a ski trip in Jasper.

Hubby went earlier and he purchased a Costco Jasper Marmot Basin 2 consecutive day pass. This also gave us an awesome discount on hotel rooms! We stayed at the Chateau Jasper which was normally $235 and with the Costco discount it was only $139 (even lower on week days!). There are other discounts on it, too for ski rental, restaurants, other lift passes, etc. (see pics attached)

Chateau Jasper hotel was great! We had 2 queen beds and a had a separate sink with microwave, small fridge and coffee maker. Also had pool and hot tub which was nice after a day on the hill.

Staff at Marmot Basin were really awesome and very friendly and helpful. Our youngest little skier was 2 years old and free on the Magic Carpet. By the end of the weekend he had it mastered ... he was on and off the magic carpet by himself, through the pylons and obstacles, he had a blast!

The 7 year old mastered it too and she moved onto the School House lift. This grandma just did the School House lift pass, too (it's only about $35 for any age for the whole the day) allowing me to enjoy skiing time with both kids and also could help with the baby at the table area which was right at the top of the learning hill.

We ended our wonderful weekend trip with an awesome lunch in Jasper called Wafflato (see pics attached for menu, it was really yummy 😋).

This was a very expensive and disappointing hostel experience. We opted for a private room because we thought that this would be a cleaner and more comfortable option. The floor had not been cleaned in a while and the shower had pink mildew growing in it. At check out, guests are asked to remove towels, sheets and duvet cover from the room and place in laundry. Upon removing the duvet cover, the duvet filler was stained with blood. No thank you, we will not be back.

I am sincerely sorry for the experience you had staying with us and this should never ever be the case. Our team regularly inspects our rooms for cleanliness issues such as the ones spoken about in your feedback and the fact that our team missed this is not okay. Please reach out to us at jasper@hihostels.ca so that we can make this right.

My wife and I stayed here several times over our 2 weeks of backpacking around the area. Great facilities with adorable options. Love the kitchen! Staff are helpful and accommodating. The complimentary earplugs were a nice touch since the railway can get quite loud.

We had a great stay. We got a private room and it was clean and met our needs nicely. The kitchen was really well equipped and common areas were nice though we so tired after our days we didn’t use them much. The service was excellent and we’d like to call out Rich who was super nice and gave us awesome recommendations as well as Emma and Jessie at the cafe.

The hostel closed early this year l so our stay was cut short last minute. They were kind enough to help find another accommodation for the nights they would be closed.
The hostel is close enough to walk to town and also there is hiking right from the hostel.
The common areas are fantastic, lots of windows and places to sit and relax. The outdoor spaces too.
Covid precautions strictly enforced.
The kitchen was well stocked. BBQ for grilling our steaks:)
Our room which was a private one was big enough for luggage and moving around. The bed was a little uncomfortable for my partner. The shower was a little small but lots of hot water.
Overall, this was a great hostel.

Came to Jasper for hiking, photography, and the beautiful scenery. The HI hostel was the best hostel so far in my travels compared to many others around the world. Made friends with other visitors quickly and ended up being part of a an amazing wedding. The host Jesse at the HI was over the top accommodating. She helped with wedding plans, hang out spots, and even more tips about scenic spots as we continue our adventure. Highly recommend the HI in Jasper and the rest of the hosts. It was well worth the time spent.

Wonder if you provide towels and soap everyday. Or do I need to use one towel for entire my stay.
Answer from Lewis
Jasper National Park, Canada
Sorry for the delay in responding to this question. We provide a towel in the room, but have more available any time at the Front Desk should you want a fresh one. There is handsoap provided in all washrooms. Bars of soap and shampoo are available at a small charge from the Front Desk. Please let us know if you have any other questions! - Christa, General Manager

We are located about 7km from town and up a mountain road. During our summer season, there is a shuttle run by Sundog transportation going from the town up to the hostel several times during the day from around 8:30am to 5:00pm. This shuttle costs $5 each time you take it, and runs until October. During our winter season, we provide a shuttle to town, leaving the hostel at 8:20am and 6:20pm. The same shuttle returns to the hostel from town at 8:30am and 6:30pm. Outside of those times, you would need to take a taxi which costs around $20 each way.

We usually have some space available over the holidays, though it is busier over the holidays than most of the rest of the winter season.

Hi Maxine and Steve, The best way to check this is through us directly, on the HI Canada website or to call us directly at the phone number on our website. Our private rooms are already booked for most of August, and much of September.
Answer from Lewis

Hi Lauren, The hostel does not host any celebrations for New Year’s Eve as we like to keep the hostel quiet at night. On the other hand, all the bars and clubs of Jasper will be hosting parties that you won't want to miss. HI-Jasper is definitely a great place to spend your holidays. We hope to see you soon, Sincerely, Michel, HI-Regional Manager
