A comfortable bed, beautiful setting and friendly staff made the stay delightful. The restaurant was convenient. It’s wise to reserve on the special menu nights. A highlight is the central fireplace. Bring a book and relax to the crackle of the burning wood.

We stayed at this hotel in September 2022 for 3 nights & enjoyed our stay. The hotel is about 30 mins drive from Jasper itself, so the location may put some people off because of the extra driving needed to reach Edith Cavell Meadows, Medicine Lake etc, but for us we didn't mind at all. It actually worked out well for us because unfortunately wild fires had left Jasper without any electricity so not very many places were open, whereas power was still on in the Overlander. The hotel itself is rustic but in a nice way with a big open fire that they sometimes light in the evenings. It felt very cosy and there were pictures of the hotel when it opened in the 1950s on the walls which added a nice touch of yester year. All staff were very friendly & the food at the restaurant was excellent (some of the best meals we had on our trip). The only slight downside is that if you are there for more than a couple of nights, the menu doesn't change, so it may get a bit repetitive, but overall the food was top notch & the waiting staff were also very attentive & friendly. The rooms are a little dated / rustic & the bathroom was small, but we didn't mind too much as hotel itself had great views and for the money in the area, it offered good value. We would certainly stay again & recommend!

On our annual good weather trips between Alberta and B.C. we have stayed at nearby cabins and enjoyed the experience. This time we thought we would break our lengthy trip with a 2-night stay at Overlander. On the late afternoon, when we arrived, it was rainy, misty, cold and just plain miserable. All we wanted was to get our cabin room, unpack, relax a bit and then go and enjoy a leisurely dinner in the restaurant. However, the first thing we learned on arrival was that the restaurant was going to be closed for dinner that evening. Fortunately, they have a "communication relationship" with the Folding Mountain Brewery a couple of kilometers up the highway. We have eaten there a number of times and enjoyed the food. However, Folding Mountain had also decided to close their pub for that evening. But, no communication between the two businesses! To put things into perspective this is not downtown Vancouver. The alternatives were a 100 km round-trip back to Jasper, a 50 km round-trip on to the next town of Hinton, or no dinner. After a long drive that day, and poor weather, neither driving option was attractive. Fortunately, we staved off starvation with an entree of Costco Salted Pumpkin Seeds, a mouth-watering dessert of Kirkland Chocolate Covered Almonds and all washed down with a vintage cup of tea from the coffee maker. Poor communication is one of the business killers. In this day and age with texting, email, Instagram, Facebook etc. there is absolutely no excuse for not communicating the restaurant closure to arriving guests. People could have made alternative arrangements passing through Hinton or Jasper. This was a major managerial failure. We try to be reasonable people and work to see a broader picture. A failure such as this helps define a business. However, what defines the character of a business even more is how the business chooses to deal with the issue. Without question, after the fact, arriving guests were owed a sincere apology for the lapse. What was the response of Overlander? Nothing! Nada! Not a word! However, the message embedded in this further failure to communicate was the managerial message, "Too bad, so sad!' Well, the response from two persons, who drove onto the property with a view to a possible longer term relationship with Overlander, is "One and done!" For people who are willing to play Overlander Roulette, and hope their ball falls in the Full Service Available slot, here is some detail on the stay: POSITIVES would be: The front desk staff; The lodge is nicely appointed; The room was clean: The beds were comfortable; The gas fireplace was adequate; The Canterbury Coffee was good ISSUES would be: Areas not seniors or handicapable friendly; No daily service for people on extended stay; A lodge resort mixed with residences and all that a second recreational place might bring; Traffic noise; it is at the worst place possible on a heavily travelled truck route i.e. near the bottom of a hill For $200+ per night, while we did not ask for an efficiency, it would have been nice to have at least one plate, one knife, one fork and one spoon; As soon as we walked into our room, we were literally heading to the bathroom. The foundation was badly cracked and the cabin was slumping toward the bathroom corner. This is a developing liability hazard for people with mobility/balance problems; I worked as a maintenance supervisor for a major hotel chain. Let me say this. If you have a mouse problem, don't advertise it. If you are going to use mouse bait stations, do not leave them in full view beside the fridge. Nothing turns an extended stay into a one-night (or less) stay than the suggestion of mice. The words "awesome" and "spectacular" are attached to the Overlander location. That might be true, if you are from Kansas. It has a pretty outlook but, if you really want awesome and spectacular, you have to go further into the Park to Jasper and beyond to Mt. Robson in B.C. OR go down the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Lake Louise and Jasper. That is where you will get the "eye popping". In summary, our experience at Overlander was rather different from the product advertised.

Really struggled to find a good hotel for the Jasper leg of our road trip. Stumbled on this place while surfing the web and can honestly say it was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed 2 nights and Mike and Darcy (I think that’s his name )were nothing short of fantastic in making us feel at home and looking after us in the bar/lounge and restaurant. Hotel itself os a little dated but is spotlessly clean and the food in the restaurant is beautiful. Thoroughly recommended.

It was a very nice place to stay with a beautiful view of the Mountain. It's so quiet and relaxing and the nature was just amazing. I did a reservation dor Supper in the Restaurant at 8:15pm but we have to wait for couple of mins, then 9 pm still waiting for our food to be done. We decided to bring the food to the unit because it's already late, but the staff are so nice and accommodating they apologized for waiting us that long, they give the kids a free dessert. All in all it's a great experience it's our first time in Jasper. We definitely come back!

We spent months planning our first adult vacation since kids. We spent a few nights in Banff and a couple in Jasper. I’m Banff we stayed in a cute boutique hotel. But this Mountain Lodge was everything we imagined our Rocky Mountains vacation would be. It was the perfect amount of rustic in our little mountain cottage room and it had the most amazing view from the restaurant on the property. We walked through Jasper and we’re only more happy we stayed away from town. Although I originally expected to be in the main lodge, our queen room was perfect and private. It was quaint and very clean. Curtis, at the front desk, was super accommodating about us getting in very late. We loved our dinner at the property restaurant.
