The address listed does not work with my 2016 GPS and 2016 maps, so I drove around Nanaimo until I found it. The young women staffing the reception desk were pleasant but not very knowledgeable. The site assigned to me was cleverly hidden behind some pit toilets so I had to go around the entire park a second time to... More

Thank you for your concise and wonderful review justsaying1012015, and for staying with us. Fall camping is my favourite time in the park, when things quiet just a bit, between the summer families and the winter snowbirds, especially when the salmon run starts in the river late October. Campsites were spacious and varied between ocean view or nestled in trees. Being from Ontario were private campgrounds are basically a field with as many units on it as possible, Living Forest would compete with Provincial parks, but with more services. Easy to get to from the ferry and close to amenities. Snack bar with patio to enjoy the views.... More

Thank you Bob B for staying with us and sharing your experience on TripAdvisor- most appreciated on both counts. Our family grew up camping, and we did one memorable extended camping trip around Lake Superior in your province, and we loved the Provincial campsites both there and here in BC, where we started our own kids in the camping lifestyle.... Stayed for four nights in early September. The campground is a large, semi-urban one, and is organized accordingly. The staff does a good job of staying on top of things, though, and the sites are relatively spacious and well-treed! This a really nice base from which to explore the region.

I always love hearing that people had the luxury of several days to base camp, relax, and explore our region. There's so many amazing places to see and experience. We've been to LF 4 times, in 4 different campsites; we are tenters. Things we like are that it's well kept and well managed. There are on-site supervisors/security so you aren't going to get a noisy party next door. That said, we have the luxury of only going mid-week so I can't be sure about the weekends but I'd be... But reviews from tenters somehow have even more significance because there's no buffer between the park experience and you when you're tenting- you're out there. This is a decent campsite. There is WiFi in the office and at the cafe. It's in a nice location, on the water and in a woods, so there is good shelter from the rain. Toilets are clean. I'd recommend this campsite, although it's nothing special.
