By far, the best value in downtown Vancouver. This is a vintage hotel, so if you're expecting 'nouveau hotel groovy' then this isn't it. But if you want a hotel with great location, staff who know you by name and a really comfortable bed and an actual KEY to your room - then you'll 'get' the Sylvia. Steps from the...

I enjoyed reading your review. I agree with you that we are the best value in Vancouver, the location is fantastic and convenient. It is important to me to read that guests will return as that says a lot about the value and service they received during their stay. So hurry back.

Mum and Dad (36) kids (8+5). We booked a two night stay late July/Aug and it was HOT! Let's be clear this is not for you if you like your modern, sleek, tech driven hotels. However if you remember exquisite non-chain hoteliers this is right up your street. A beautiful building with period features and architecture the hotel is incredible....

+ Great part of town, opposite the beach, close to the park + One of the very few historic buildings + Area is good for families + Busses to go downtown right in front of the door - Internet is unacceptably slow. When will hotels understand that internet access is a key necessity for travelers today. It took me one...

I liked the pros and cons approach to your review. I am sorry that you had trouble with the internet, that is not a common occurrence but does happen from time to time and in most cases we solve the issue. We always have a computer in the lobby to print off airline tickets as their sites are slow which...

The value of this place is the stellar location on the beach at English Bay, near Stanley Park. Perfect for the summer fireworks display, cycling in the park, swimming in the pool at Second Beach. We've stayed here several times, and despite the deficits, will return. The building dates back to 1912 and definitely shows its age in the worn...

The location is often mentioned because of all the access to the beaches and restaurants and Stanley Park all so close. Every room does have a hair dryer and amenities are replaced daily unless they are still full and you can ask for more anytime if needed. Please come back soon and stay with us. Thank-you for your rating and...

We stayed in the Sylvia Hotel 10 years ago so were looking forward to going back. It's in a great location - right beside the beach and a relatively easy drive from the airport and close to the ferry terminal for Naniamo. Parking is not included and was $18 per night. First impressions were that it hadn't changed a bit...

We are a heritage site and over 104 years old and we have worked hard to stay true to our heritage. The rooms are spotless and the beds are comfy because after all we do sell sleep. I was happy to read that you see the value in staying with us. Please come back soon to visit the next time...

We stayed at the Slyvia for three days in July and from the moment we booked our room, every staff person provided helpful, friendly and professional service. Our room overlooked the beach and had a very comfortable bed. The location is perfect and they even have music in their bar most evenings. We thought it was wonderful.

'Top Notch Service" what a great header, says it all. Every hotel has beds and four walls but I think the service is what makes the difference between hotels. My staff work very hard to exceed guests expectations so thank-you much for noticing and mentioning the service the offer. I hope that you will return again so that we can...

First I have to say how wonderful the hotel staff were. My Mom and I came with my sister and her family so we had two rooms on the 8th floor. I always love it when guests mention the housekeeping department, they all work so hard to make sure the Hotel is spotless and the "beds are comfy" and the "linen crisp". Spent the first two nights of our honeymoon here. The outside of the hotel is old historic, but the inside didn't match--just old and need of upgrade(carpet stained in our room). Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
