Hotel is a little older. Tucked away a bit off the beaten path. But don't let that fool you! This isn't one of those places with the antlers on the wall and the soggy spot in the carpet, no sir! Simply put, if you're in Vancouver for more than just a stay in a hotel, the Buchan is simply the...

I have stayed at the Buchan repeatedly over the years (decades). Do not expect a four star experience. In it's class, the Buchan is an excellent choice. No frills, clean and quiet in an excellent location.

We stay at the Buchan because it's about the least expensive room you can find in English Bay. We like it because it's clean, well-run, and has a nice neighborly feel to it. That said, be aware that this is a very basic hotel. Most of what you won't find at the Buchan is well explained on their website. Three...

Clean and good value for Vancouver, I will definitely use this hotel again. All I ask for in a hotel is that is be clean, quite, affordable and no little biting things. You are a little out of the way for downtown however the busses are only a few blocks away.

I have stayed there around thirty times since 2005. It's a lovely, friendly, unpretentious place in exactly the right location. It's safe, secure, a bit like the United Nations and just cool. There is little that's glamorous and no lift but it's just plain nice.

The hotel rooms are spartan but the overall experience was terrific. Great bed, good television, great showers and free wi-fi that works. Plus the location cannot be beat. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family.

The room was very clean, and the location was excellent. The only downside was no thermostat to control the radiator (we opened the windows and kept them open). Also, there is no elevator at this property. If you are looking for a low cost room just to sleep in during your stay, this is a great choice. We had a...

the only thing lacking was a corkscrew! As suggested by the desk staff,I went to the restaurant downstairs and had my half bottle opened .AND was loaned a nice piece of stemware to take to my room and return the next day! Perfect!

Great value for money. The room is clean even if it is outdated. Very central location to restaurants, grocery, transportation, tourist spots. great staff, quaint feel, there is a bistro right beside it.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
