I have stayed at the Buchan and will no doubt stay there again. The atmosphere is friendly and warm and the location can't be beaten. The room was ordinary for a budget hotel but it was clean and neat. The lounge was an added bonus. The neighborhood hotel reminded me of neighborhood hotels in Europe.

This is a bare minimum kind of hotel. Restrooms down the hall that, in one case, were so small that the door has to be modified to open it past the toilet. Plenty of restrooms available though. The rooms have a small sink and mirror for other things. The coolest part of the hotel were the historical photos lining the...

Love staying at the Buchan Hotel -- it is just like traveling in Europe and staying at Pensiones! The low cost coupled with extra comfort of the lounge, helpful staff and the great sightseeing just minutes from the door are all things we love about the Buchan.

overall enjoyed our stay; a little off the beaten path if you are attending shows/things in town but easy 10$ cab if need to or a nice walk. Very quiet setting, woke to birds chirping outside the window :) Pretty minimal in terms of amenities but will do the trick if trying to save a buck. Restaurant wasn't open during...

Cute little hotel at a very reasonable price, near beautiful Stanly Park. Quiet and clean. Nice little italian restaurant in the same building. No breakfast at hotel, but Starbucks and other caffees close by. City center is app within 10 min walking distance.

I really enjoy staying here. It's a bit far from the sky train, but a great walk, so no problem. Love that it's not on a busy street and close to all amenities. The staff was super helpful, and I even got to check in early.

Everything was excellent: location, price, staff and room. We didn't have any problem with the shared bathrooms (there are 4 by floor), it was very clean and always available. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Vancouver.

I've reviewed the Buchan before so I'm being brief here. This second visit was even better than the first. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. The room is simple but comfortable; the bed is very nicely firm. The water in the bathroom takes a minute to get hot but once it gets there, it's good. There's a real bathtub,...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
