Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I would say what makes this hotel are the people who work here. Everyone was just so friendly and nice! We stayed on the Club Floor and had an amazing view of the harbour. I worked from the hotel room for two days and the work space was excellent. While the bed was comfortable, the room was dated and we hard a difficult time regulating the room temperature. The ventilation from the bathroom also wasn’t the best which lead to some condensation building up in the room. The club lounge was great, however the breakfast offerings got very repetitive after 6 nights. The gym surpassed my expectations and has everything required for a decent workout. I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again, however I think it is time for a minor refresh of the hotel?

Love the atmosphere of this place ! We did find our room a little dated but the hotel itself is beautiful. I have also stayed in updated rooms which were the nicest in this city! The pool is ok but not ideal for small kids as it is quit deep outside of a very small portion! The restaurant is always of high standard and the Buffett is amazing. ! This hotel is more suited for couples with the downtown area on your doorstep !

This is nice clean hotel in a perfect location downtown close to everything. There are a lot of events and parties at hotel so in the evening there is very little parking. You may get no where to park because no parking is reserved for guests. The rooms are spacious and clean but have thin walls. With people staying from the parties there is a lot of noise and hard to sleep. This is the second time I’ve stayed here and will not again due to the same issues both times. The gym is right next to the pool so is very humid even in the winter and smells of strong chlorine. Treadmills are not maintained and skip and stick. The sauna works and is a nice to have. Tv in the rooms has basic cable with no tv guides . Very limited

Dear Jason, Thank you for taking the time to share your stay experience with us. I’m sorry to read of your sleep disruption due to other guests. The hotel is an active location for social events and conferences. We recommend seeking assistance from our concierge team if experiencing difficulties with parking. We are currently in the process of upgrading our television system. I do hope you will provide us with an opportunity to better serve you on a future visit.

We arrived after being dropped off at the wrong hotel by the taxi driver. The small walk to the Sheraton at 1:30 AM had us greeted by the most friendliest staff and ensure the registration was seamless and expedited with finesse. Our room overlooked the city at first. We had to be moved to another room (which was so overly efficiently manipulated!) and it overlooked the harbour. Both views in the morning greeted you with the warmth of Newfoundland landscape, regardless of the temperature outside. We were in awe. This hotel is so conveniently located, great walking distance to Water and George St., Signal Hill is a kilometre away. The staff are amazing, nothing less can be said about them. Will definitely be booking with this hotel the next round! If a 10 out of 5 rating could be given, this hotel would certainly be granted it in our books!

Came for a wedding. Checked in through the app 72 hours prior so they knew we were coming and would be there prior to the standard 3pm. Met with attitude at the front desk about an early check in but was “graciously accommodated”. Room needed to be defeathered; housekeeping barged in without knocking. Wifi in room did not work, but we weren’t in the room long enough to really need it. Rooms need a facelift and updating (the wallpaper in the bathroom reminds me of the old Fairmont line). Beds were comfy and view was lovely.

The property was clean. The service was great. Excellent walking access to the St John’s harbour. Pretty close to the start of the Terry Fox historic run. Close (within walking distance) to shopping and restaurants. The bed was good. The shower was fine. The hotel is well appointed. The pool is special. This property is close to much of the action and sights of St John’s.

Our room was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were very kind and greeted us warmly. The hotel location was an easy walk to the waterfront shops. The hotel seemed short-staffed and was unable to clean up meeting rooms or bring towels to the pool after multiple requests. A nice place to stay, but bring your patience.

The first annoying thing - I paid for one more night than necessary due to my flight was delayed and no one at the hotel picked up and helped me changing the reservation. I had free cancellation on my hotel booking up until the day before check-in, but i just wanted to postpone my stay with one day. I called the hotel multiple times, but no one picked up and I would be in a plane, if I lay a message asking them to call back later. I had no e-mail address to contact and I didn’t dare to cancel everything and risk not having a room at all. That was quite annoying and looking back, I would be better of just canceling all nights and stay at another hotel. Second annoying thing - I had breakfast included in my stay, but before I was able to “enjoy” it, I had to go to the hotels front desk to get a coupon. Most mornings there was a queue of people checking in/out, that you had to wait in before you could get your coupon. And even though i had breakfast included all days of my stay, they couldn’t just give me coupons for all days. I afsked the hotel staff why, and they claimed it’s the only way they can handle it. But come on - that’s not normal practice for hotel breakfasts. Normally the waiter asks your room number and note it. Sheratons solution is very inconvenient for the guests. Third annoying thing - Very limited healthy choices in the breakfast buffet. Artificial flavored yoghurts that could be topped with cornflakes - no granola. And limited fruit and melons. Rest of the breakfast was quite heavy. I had breakfast two days during my stay, because most days I did’t want to go though the queue at the front desk to get lousy breakfast. Fourth annoying thing - the room was old and worn out. If you are more than 180cm tall, you have to bend your knees to get your head under water because the shower head is quite low. All in all - not recommending this to anyone.

Dear Thea, Thank you for your candid feedback following your recent stay at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. I am very disappointed to read of your difficulties. I will certainly be following up with the team so we may improve upon the issues you mentioned. Our breakfast buffet standards are set by the brand and it is a wide selection on offer. Anytime, you feel that you might prefer an alternative, we would be pleased to accommodate. I do hope this may not deter you from selecting the Sheraton again in the future, and invite you to contact me directly in advance of a future stay.

We stayed as part of an incentive trip. The hotel has amazing food and the staff is friendly. The lobby and restaurant are tasteful and modern. It is a great location to walk downtown from and you must try Craig's Cookies across the street. Beautiful views when it's not socked in. The rooms are dated and a little worn. Like the leather headboard had wear marks - funny but also ew. Carpets had stains. We had to ask for enough towels and the glasses weren't changed. The room service glass stayed in the room until checkout which was odd. The other strange piece was someone knocked then proceeded to open the door, said they were from housekeeping and they had " the spray" when asked what spray and blocking the door they sighed and left.

This hotel is located in old St John’s just blocks from the harbour and close to Signal Hill The hotel is well maintained with friendly staff. The rooms are large with comfortable beds. The sheets are not fitted and messed up every night. The pool is small but clean and the hot tub jets are not powerful. There’s lots of workout equipment. The food was good in the restaurant with great service Ask for a harbour front room
