I would have given 5 stars because

1. Our room was newly renovated and very spacious and comfortable
2. The location was excellent and walking distance from major attractions
3. The customer service was excellent. We asked for a quiet room and they made sure our floor and location was (supposed to be) quiet.

I only gave 3 stars because:

1. The room doors were slamming during the night. I don’t know if this was due to the rude guests or it’s a construction defect.
2. People talking loudly in the hallways on both nights of our stay, keeping me awake from 2-4am.
3. We could hear the family in the next room at any time.
4. There were no extra blankets, pillows or garbage bags in the room.

If the rates were not so high I would probably have just accepted this as ‘you get what you pay for’. Our friends stayed at the Andaz right across the street for only slightly more. They had a quiet room and a lovely OPEN full service coffee shop with delicious breakfasts. Marriott can certainly do better.

My top priority was the Byward Market location and on site parking. This hotel even offers underground parking. We were driving better than 10 hours and the last thing I wanted to do was drag luggage from an offsite parking location to the hotel. Parking is very reasonable ($22 CDN per day). The location is great--we walked everywhere!

Two complaints: our room was located on the first floor and it was incredibly noisy (we were there on a Saturday evening). We could hear every bit of street noise (live music, cars, etc.). I realize this is not the hotel's fault, but if you are a light sleeper, make sure you ask for a room higher up!

TV did not work and nobody could fix it. Not the worse thing of course, but we wanted to watch the Stanley Cup finals, and that was a struggle.

Very reasonably priced though, great location, and onsite parking.

Dear Karen F Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your recent stay with us. I apologize that you encountered issues with your TV. The hotel being in the heart of the ByWard Market, a vibrant neighbourhood, can at times be noisy. If you are back in town, you can ask if a courtyard facing room is available. They don't provide as much views but can be less noisy as they are away from the street. Hope to welcome you back!

After staying at Les Suites last year we decided on somewhere else this year, opting for the Courtyard Marriott (never stayed here before) over the Novotel (stayed some time in the past). Imagine our surprise when we opened the room to door to find that the Marriott is in the process of renovating its rooms, and have done an excellent job making them clean, bright, modern-ish, and comfortable (see our photos).

The Marriott's location in the heart of the Byward Market is perfect, including easy access to not only the best of the Market but also other locales such as Parliament Hill and Major's Hill Park. There's lots of parking both at street level and underground. Your room key gets you in and out of the parking lot.

Gone is the bathtub, replaced by a shower, and the swing-in bathroom door, replaced by a barn-style door. A nice looking vanity has been installed, and for your use there's an ironing board and a hair dryer. The look again is modern and clean.

In the bedroom there's an empty mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, desk and chair, as well as a sofa. The bed is on the firm side, similar to what we have at home, and provided a good night's sleep.

Staff were friendly, efficient, and effective. During Covid your room will not be made up on a daily basis, but we're used to that now.

All in all we had a great stay and the choice for next year is a simple one.

The Hotel asked me if I wouldn't mind them cleaning the room every 2 days for ecological reasons. I said yes but they didn't come even once to clean over 5 days. I had to call the concierge each day to get towels, tissues, toilet paper, coffee pods and had to walk my trash out the room myself. no kidding. Beds were never made etc... I felt they took advantage of me. On the fourth day I asked them to send a cleaning person who came and spent at most 8 minutes in the room and did not change the bed. Is this the newest thing from hotels? Clean your own room. Not impressed.

Another thing. The room had an open closet in the bathroom and no other place to hang your jacket and clothes. See other reviewers who commented on this. Who puts a closet in the bathroom? I did not want to hang my clothes 2 feet from the toilet and in the same space as the steam from the shower.

Dear francad863, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us. I sincerely apologize that you were left disappointed with your stay. I have reviewed your comments with both our Guest Services and Housekeeping team as our current housekeeping service standards were not explained to you at check in and the refresh service was not up to par. I reminded them of the importance to take the time to review the houskeeping service in order to avoid guest's disappointment. Housekeeping refresh service is currently set to be offered every second day. On the 7th day a full service including linen replacement is done. However, if your preference is to get service every day or no service at all, we accommodate your preference. Thank you again for your feedback. Best, Nancy

Situated in the Byward market area with lots of bars & restaurants on the doorstep.
Clean well appointed rooms. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Bar served an excellent breakfast and reasonable bar food.
A point to note is that rooms are not serviced every day but you can request an extra clean or more towels and tea, coffee etc from reception

My U18 soccer team stayed Aug 5-7, 2022. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, tidy and clean. The hotel's thick walls made for quiet sleeps. The staff, including M. Kennelly, went above and beyond to make my players' and parents' stay comfortable. I brought two giant lasagnas for a team dinner Saturday which they offered to place in the hotel fridges. Staff loaned several dessert utensils. The breakfast area worked beautifully for the evening team meal. The location makes for a fun time in Ottawa, with Byward Market cafés and stores and the Parliament buildings a short walk away. Many tournaments we've stayed in suburbia. Staying in a vibrant part of downtown was more fun for everyone.

Excellent experience at Courtyard by Marriott! The location was within walking distance of almost everything I wanted to visit - Parliament Hill, the neon Ottawa sign, the market (apologies, I don't remember what it's called). Great selection of restaurants available one street over. Large and comfortable rooms with everything you need. Great little restaurant attached as well, recommend getting breakfast there to start your day (recommend the crepe, or just avocado toast if you're not super hungry). Wait staff was superb. Honestly, the only thing was that the one way streets made it a bit more difficult to access the parking lot, but did not have much impact on my time here. :) Would stay again for sure.

The hotel is located in Ottawa’s Byward Market and is walking distance to many of the city’s main attractions. That’s a positive. The flip side is that there are dozens of street people in the area making if grimy and unsafe. Everywhere I walked I was constantly looking over my shoulder. The hotel front door is locked 24 hours a day and you have to use your room card to enter. The hotel itself is well used. The beds are hard and the linens are akin to a boyscout camp. The decor is early 2000’s. The room was clean but very small, dark, and just this side of dingy. The front staff was slumping, uninviting, and disinterested. Given Ottawa’s other options, this would be very low on the list.

Dear Condar, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel. Exceeding guest expectations is our main goal and I am disappointed to see that we failed to achieve this. Our prime location in the ByWard Market is surrounded by many restaurants, bars, local vendors and merchants. There is always something going on and much to see. As many downtown cities, we have some socio-economic challenges however we are still a very safe city. The hotel is in the finishing touch of our renovations. All the rooms were redone including new Marriott spec mattresses, hallways, public space and I am sorry that the decor was not pleasing to you. I am disappointed that our team did not offer you the legendary friendly service that our guests have become accustomed to. I will certainly share your comments to ensure that this doesn't occur again. Warm regards,

My family chose this hotel because it's in the Byward Market and very affordable. The hotel is not only close to the Market, but also walking distance to Rideau Centre shopping mall, and many attractions like Parliament Hill. Yes, there are homeless people wandering around, but we felt safe at our hotel. They have a key card system for the front entrance and parking garage.

We were impressed with how clean the hotel is with very friendly, helpful staff. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable facing the courtyard so we never had any issues with noise. We also spent a lot of time at the pool and got coffee every morning from the bistro downstairs. I have zero complaints and only compliments for this hotel.

Parking is a big issue. Very limited space and as located in downtown lots of traffic snarls right Ar entrance. But they can do better. Firstly, inform UPFRONT of non availability so that incoming customers can plan check in, luggage drops etc. Also inform about alternatives. And if possible Tie up with nearby paid parking. And lastly Pl Do some restructuring of your Own barricades- so inconvenient that it hinders free movement. Pass through for cars is possible But do you really want to explore?

Hello, parking is on a first come first serve basis and is $20 per night plus taxe up to 1pm on departure. It gives you in and out privilege. If the on-site parking is full, we can refer you to an off-site parking; a few minute walk and it's $14 per 24 hour period in and out privilege as well. Let us know if you have any other questions and hope to welcome you soon!

Hi lor703! If you are looking for a place with great live music there's no place better than Rainbow Bistro at 76 Murray St. (at the corner of Murray and Parent St.). As for shopping and crafts the Byward Market for which our neighborhood is named is a great choice! The building itself is located at 55 Byward Market Square, one block west of our hotel. The independently owned stalls and shops have tons of really interesting merchandise and artisan goods. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! Regards, Colin McCulloch
