Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely terrible experience. I had unfortunate delays from Toronto and due to the delays ended up missing my original train so had to take the bus that would not get me into Ottawa until 5:30 a.m. Due to the delays, I called the Lodge to let them know I would not be arriving until 5:45 and they said this was okay, only to then when arriving, find no desk clerk, the desk was empty, lights shut off, I stayed around, and walked around the incredibly poorly lit sketchy area for 15 minutes, and nobody was there to allow me into my room even to just get a short nap in. The desk you could see through the window also, and you there was nobody there, and nobody was even logged in. I was so lucky that the Days Inn down the street, the kind gentleman let me in and let me sit and nap in the seating area as unfortunately their rooms were all booked. When I called to ask for a refund, I had to call three times on separate days just to get a hold of the manager finally, and she completely ignored any of the fact that her member was not at the front desk, said they waited for me for 5 hours that at least I could have waited for an hour and not just 15 minutes. Apparently working for 5 hours all they were doing is waiting for me? Is this what your desk attendant does at work, wait and do nothing? Also it was freezing cold, so how am I to wait outside for an hour while your negligence cause this all to happen in the first place. There was no ownership taken by the lodge at all, they completely tried to blame everything on me, and did not give me my refund, which really is the very definition of stealing. If I did not show up, that is one thing, but it is the establishment whose employee did not show up. However, I will say, the one thing that is my fault is I wish I had booked my hotel earlier because this was the only available hotel and I see why. I see the reviews are so horrendous, but I just needed a place to sleep and even that I did not get after all the delays I sadly experienced in Toronto. Very honestly though, after seeing all these horrendous reviews, I feel I may have lucked out. Maybe I was better off getting a short nap in before my event in the front area of Days Inn than sleeping on a bed here because there are just constant reviews of bed bugs in this place. Do not one bit recommend this place, stay away at all costs because you are either going to get bed bugs, or not get a place at all.

I booked a room at this hotel for summer 2024 (july). I received a message from them that they could not process my credit card. I had also booked accommodation elsewhere at the same time. There was no problem with the credit card. I got the impression that either they want to charge for the reservation before arrival (it was supposed to be in mass at the hotel) or they are trying to steal my bank card details. As security is paramount, I cancelled the reservation.

Spent an evening here - guy at front desk tried to swipe my card in his machine 30 times and asked if I had another one to try so I went through my bag to get my other card and he then said "oh it worked". 12 days later the charge for the room was still sitting in my pending transactions then all of a sudden i have $700 in charges for an escape room 10 minutes from the econolodge and $350 in charges for the H&M 5 minutes from the econolodge. I live six hours away, dont know a single person who lives in Ottawa and this place is just sketchy.

A disastrous stay on every level maybe except the location not to far from Parliament Hill but the neighborhood is still not brilliant . A dirty and smelly room , locks do not operate very safely , the chain should break by pushing hard on the door . The hairdryer electric plug was burnt and was covered in hair , yuck! On top of that I booked two rooms for a one night stay with choice hotel reward points but the clerk at check out who did not seem to know anything about the hotel business wanted to charge me for the two room stay ! I sent emails to the hotel chain customer service and to the hotel management but no news until now ! Avoid ECONOLODGE OTTAWA at all cost when visiting Canada’s Capital !

BED BUGS. Woke up covered in bites and found one in our bed. We weren't even given a full refund for the night we stayed in a bed bug infested room. Absolutely do not recommend staying here. Also the WiFi hardly worked.

JUST TRASH! THE ROOM SMELLS LIKE CIGARETTES! FOLLOWED BY OUR COMPLAINTS THEY TELL US THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING. THEY CAME AND GAVE US FEBREEZE AND TOLD US THAT’S ALL THEY CAN DO. A MUFFIN TO EAT UP. HOTEL STRONGLY SMELLS URINE. NO ROOM CHANGES POSSIBLE AND NO DISCOUNTS APPLY. I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THEY DIDN’T WASH THE SHEETS. A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE! TO AVOID!!

The only good and best part of this hotel is its location. It's even too good for this price. The second good thing is the fridge and microwave in the room, I didn't expect that. But the rest of our experience was negaive. Minus one star for the extremely slow reception service. We were waiting almost half an hour just to check-in, while the reception guy was very sluggish with the other clients in front of us and casually chatting with someone on the phone. The breakfast was scheduled till 9:30 am, but at 9:10 am there was literally nothing left. Just completely empty trays! Wi-fi was not just "poor" but below that. Yet receptionist at least found the courage to inform us about that. Basically there was no connection 80% of the time, the signal appeared in the late evening hours only and was very weak. But the last straw came when I called to the reception desk the day after my check-out because I thought I forgot one piece of clothes in the room. And guess what? They told me, they DO NOT have any lost & found, and whatever is discovered in the room goes straight to the trash! I can't believe it, I have never seen the hotel with such a sick and inconsiderate policy!!! So even if I'm wrong and I lost this item somewhere else, good to know that the hotel doesn't care about your stuff at all. So basically, whatever the cleaners have found after you it's theirs. So thank you for this "amazing" policy. It's alone is enough reason not to select your brand ever again!

I am not a bad review person but I'm annoyed enough to write one. Location is ok. Not the best part of town. A few places to eat but your a 20 minute walk to the market or other attractions. Room is standard. Very dated but clean. We expected this. Service is not the greatest. We asked for extra towels and it took over 24 hours to get some after asking 3 times. Breakfast included? That's what it says. But your breakfast is in a bag. A yogurt with no spoon and a juice box. That's it. I've had bag breakfast before but I got a yogurt and a muffin or granola bar and breakfast sandwhich with an apple. Don't advertise what you don't plan on giving someone. Better places to stay.

Bathroom REEKED of URINE which permeated the whole room (also doors were really grimy - yuk), we spoke to other clients who had the same experience. Desk clerks seemed aware of the urine smell problem when we brought it up to them but did not offer any compensation. We stayed one night only and will not be returning.

I was promised a room. My credit card kept declining . I called hotel 3 times that day as I was driving from 5 hours away, which is made clear to the hotel clerk I had spoke with. She told me my room was on hold for me and that I could make cash deposit since it wasn’t going through with credit. They told me no record of the women I talked to . They referenced how my room credit card got declined. Made no attempt to call. Terrible terrible people.
