We came here to celebrate an anniversary. I wanted to be within walking distance to the Parliament and shopping AND I wanted modern bathrooms and found this place had undergone renovations in recent years. I have always wanted to stay here because I thought it looked like Chateau Laurier which I could not afford.

I was not disappointed. The lobby reminds me of old world hotels. Our room was a classic room and it was not big. I loved the modern bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower. It had the clean modern look I wanted. My only discontent with the bathroom was that the glass wall should have been at least a foot or two wider so that the water from the shower would not splash out so easily onto the rest of the bathroom floor.

I had written in the comment field during reservations that we were coming in for our anniversary and it was lovely to be "upgraded" to a classic room, but overlooking Confederation Park and Elgin Street. There was also a card propped up on the TV to wish us a happy anniversary. Superb personal touch, thank you!

The final thing I loved about this hotel was that they had a $5 "green voucher" for anybody choosing to forego daily housekeeping services. I used our voucher at the Starbucks downstairs on our last day.

Lastly, parking at the hotel costs A LOT. If you are willing to walk, you can have free overnight parking underground at the City Hall less than two blocks away.

I would definitely come back to the Lord Elgin. This was a wonderful first experience.

Stayed at this hotel on recent trip to Ottawa with my wife and some friends. Came as part of a Porter Escapes package, we selected it due to great location and good reviews. Older style, beautiful, hotel with lots of character.
PROS - clean room, super fast check in and check out, great location
CONS - we got the upgrade "parkview" room, you can see the park but it isn't the best view / not really worth the upgrade. Still 5 stars though.

Also, I forgot my hat in the room when we left. Called customer service and housekeeping was able to locate the hat and mailed it to me. Superb service!

Thank you so much for the review James B! We love to hear from guests what they enjoy most about their stay with us, and you have neatly summed it up in just a few sentences. I am sorry to hear that you did not feel like the parkview was worth the upgrade fee. Please let me know next time you are staying with us and I will ensure you have a room with a great view! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon! David Smythe General Manager Lord Elgin Hotel

From the time we arrived til we left a couple of days later, the staff, everyone from the gentleman who helped with our luggage, the front desk, room service and the fifth floor housekeeping staff, really made us feel welcome at their hotel. Rooms are modern, comfortable and quiet. We had a a lot of fun in the pool, too. Thanks to all the staff for helping to make our weekend as special as it was!

The hotel itself is lovely. Clean rooms, friendly staff.
They have a great program that allows you to reuse linens and towels in exchange for a $5 voucher for Starbucks or room service....
But MY GOD! Would it kill them to install a door that doesn’t slam?!

Late at night and early morning there are inconsiderate guests coming in and out of their rooms just SLAMMING the door behind them.
The walls are also quite thin, so again... constant noise.
I’ve been here for two nights and have had awful sleeps because of this. Mostly the doors.

Room was okay but very small for $200.00 a night and parking is $35 a night.
Front reception was very nice
Gym had good equipment and swimming pool was large. Swimming pool area had a lot of areas that had not been cleaned and maintained for quite a while and was quite dirty and unhealthy.
Great location
Foerm$235.00 a night I would at alternate hotels close by that are more modern and likely have a more spacious room for the price

The property is conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and parliament. However, parking is poor! We were provided with valet parking at $35 per day plus HST. When I asked if there were any other options the clerk indicated that there is city parking within a 5 min walk :-(

We have stayed at the Elgin at least ten times both pre and post Covid restrictions because three of our children attend post secondary schools in Ottawa! We love the city and the Elgin has become our go to because the location can’t be beat. We were excited to be back in person post Covid for convocation - but were sad to admit we were disappointed this time! Staff weren’t nearly as welcoming or friendly as in the past years….and they have let the simple things slide….there was no information provided in the room in regards to the hotel amenities, ie; gym hours, where ice machines are located etc….had to call the front desk each time. No glasses at all in the room - only paper coffee cups and pillows are so uncomfortably small. So disappointed that a hotel we used to love was not up to the same standards!

Hotel is listed as "ecofriendly" which I guess explains why they have a Keurig coffee make in the room and no cups, or glasses in the bathroom. We wanted to make a cup of tea and had to call the front desk, they delivered 4 paper cups. Saving water??
Had dinner in the restaurant, Grill 41. Meal and service was great, but the area where we sat had no light, no light at the table, no overhead light. I had to use my cell phone to read the menu.
Hotel location is excellent though.

We stayed at Lord Elgin in September for a wedding, which suggested a stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic, you can walk to many historical Ottawa spots, restaurants, etc. The room was a nice size, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the hotel was quiet/soundproof. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was nice too. There were a few downsides. I didn’t upgrade our room to one with a special view, but I wasn’t expecting to be 15ft from an office where we could clearly see each other. The bathroom door was a pocket door that didn’t fully close, with no fan available, so hopefully you aren’t shy with your travel pal. Valet was $35 a night plus tax, however local car parks were similar, so that seems to be unavoidable. Altogether it was a reasonably priced stay and our expectations were basically met.

We were allocated a room on the fifth floor which had a double bed and it smelt musty and dated, despite booking an executive room with two queen sized beds. To be fair we showed them the vouchers from our agent and were upgraded. The rooms are dated and dark. We had a view t the back of the hotel. The hotel however, is centrally located. The swimming pool is unsupervised and we had a number of boisterous children who were running a mock in the swimming area left by their parents. There is a sauna, but you have t heat it up by turning it on which can takeover an hour, its on a 45 minute timer so you have to be prepared. The changing rooms ere not clean. In order to get to the swimming pool you had Togo across the fitness room. Really not well thought out for this hotel. The bathroom was a good size and the showers were powerful. Be careful of the taxi drivers outside the hotel, especially if you have more suitcases than the usual two as they will charge you an extra $10 instead of 25 cents for each case.
