Stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown for 4 nights in September 2005. The property has been around under different chain managements for more than 30 years. So I entered prepared for a little slack. Instead I got a team of young, with it, hospitality professionals that was genuinely committed to making guests happy.

The reception and restaurant had been completely redone since I was last a guest (a couple of years ago when the property was under different management - not happily). On entering I couldn't help but think that it might have been possible to eat off the floor - it was that sparkling.

My room was as booked (non-smoking executive) but had the extra of a dog in the next room who was unhappy. So, quickly, became I. I got an instant switch to another room, no arguments. Actually done with a real smile. Room housekeeping was perfect. The room had not been renovated that recently, but it was up to a high standard.

The restaurant servers and busboys/girls were right on the mark. They were there when you needed them but not in your face. Food was okay, nothing special but filling.

I will be staying there again!

I was totally surprised by how much I enjoyed my stay here. This Holiday Inn is on a quiet side street in Ottawa, but still in the heart of downtown and within short walking distance of many great spots to eat and shop.

The room was spotless, extremely spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Tons of closet space. Bathroom was a bit on the small side, but you're only in there to shower and brush your teeth, so who cares.

We had a great view of the Rideau Canal, National Arts Centre and Elgin Street.

Parking is dirt cheap - $9/day with in/out priviledges - probably the best deal you'll find in downtown Ottawa! But the lot is extremely small. Watch yourself when you're backing out. Someone almost hit me!

Friendly staff rounded out my top-notch experience here. Would definitely stay again. Great value for money.

I have stayed in most of the downtown Ottawa suite hotels for prolonged periods of time on business. I was a little apprehensive when I could not book into any of my favourites and ended up having to take a suite at the Holiday Inn on Cooper Street. It is really quite good and I will definately be back again. The rooms are large, decently furbished. The staff were quite friendly - the little restaurant was at the top of the "Holiday Inn" scale by my taste. It looks a little shabby from the outside and the lobby is definately not the Ritz Carleton, but I thought it was a great value. For business travellers, (especially ones spooked by the Holiday Inn moniker) it is a really quite nice surprise.

I had an extended stay at this hotel, i.e. November 2004-February 2005. The hotel had recently been renovated; both the lobby and my suite were attractively decorated. My suite (one of those assigned to long-term guests) had a full-size refrigerator and stove, but was poorly equipped in terms of dishes, utensils, cutlery, etc. The bathroom was small but quite functional and clean. The furniture was nicely upholstered, and there were coordinating drapes. The place looked good. However, I had trouble adjusting the heat to a comfortable level and often would have to open windows to cool the room. As for service, it was variable...I didn't receive the same level of service each day. Sometimes it was very thorough, and other times not. Personal items (luckily nothing of any great value) were taken from my room, for reasons I have yet to understand! Also, there were silverfish in the room - they did nothing to bother me but I didn't enjoy having them around! I asked to have problems rectified as they arose...sometimes they were addressed quickly, sometimes not. However, I was always treated respectfully and courteously by hotel staff. I would recommend this hotel; all in all, it offers good value for money. There are better suite hotels in the city, but they are more expensive.

The Holiday Inn is located several blocks south of the Parliament Buildings, and near the Rideau Canal. The location worked well for us, and we even walked to the War Museum about 2.5km west. The rooms were a very good size, and the rates were reasonable for a long weekend (Victoria Day). They have a restaurant there although we went to the 24 hour place on nearby Elgin St. called Dunn's for a big breakfast. Maybe the Westin and Novotel are closer to the Rideau Centre, the market etc..but walking to some of the attractions from the Holiday Inn isn't too bad at all.

My family stayed here during our last five days in ottawa, we had been in a terrible place previous the Doral Inn, we were tired due to changing hotels with two small children in tow, when we arrived we noticed that their seemed to be construction going on, at this point i was having a mini nervous breakdown, as we had just left one consruction site. I was to tired to argue. The staff had up-graded us to a suite, and we had the full canadian
breakfasts sent to our room every morning. The staff were efficient, helpful and we did'nt have to ask twice for anything. The rooms were fantastic, clean and definately better than what we had been staying in previous. We had great views, and the food was brilliant, I can not big this place up enough, if we do go back to Visit ottawa then this is the place we will be staying in.

The Holiday Inn Ottawa surprised - we got a super deal ($86) using the Entertainment card - not bad for a weekend night in Ottawa in the summer. If you check all the room descriptions when booking, select a room with a kitchenette - these rooms are huge junior suites with kitchens, two beds and a pull-out sofa. All rooms were renovated when the hotel switched from Ramada to Holiday Inn a couple of years ago. The location is on a quiet street within walking distance of the Canal and downtown and near a number of other hotels and the nightlife on Elgin. Overall, highly recommended place - quiet, comfortable and large rooms. Good if you're looking for a good hotel that's a little quieter than most.

Happened along this Holiday Inn on our road trip. Great location. Spacious room, very clean with small separate kitchenette, fridge, microwave, dishes and a plug in hot plate. Very comfortable sofa bed. Plush carpeting. Nice bathroom with heated floors, which I imagine would be very welcome in the winter. Had to pay for parking, suppose because it was in the downtown area. Would stay there again if I was in Ottawa. Great price for a suite.

This hotel was perfectly located in downtown Ottawa, within walking distance of shopping, food, nightlife, and the sights of the city. The hotel is not overly modern but it is well-kept. I had a double suite with a kitchenette, perfect for a week's stay for a business traveller. Up to Holiday Inn's usual standard without a doubt.
