Student residence is the perfect way to describe the hotel "services" that 89 chestnut has to offer. Reviews down below were pretty accurate ei. Hallways smell like death, rooms are run down (especially the carpets), walls have holes, curtains have stains, bed sheets have stains and holes, washroom has peeling ceiling and rust, room smells a little bit better than... Location is great, just six-minute walk from Greyhound depot. Rent is very attractively priced in July. Free breakfast is another great point that travellers will not be disappointed. The room is clean and provides basic and simple arrangement. "Basic" means there are no TV, night lamps and extra chairs because this is a student residence for University of Toronto. Having... This is student accommodation and priced as such - my room on the 24th floor was spacious, clean and was furnished on the cheap. The location was by City hall and was really handy for the coach station for a trip to Niagra Falls. The breakfast was excellent, self-service student canteen style but the quality of the food was very... More

Very simple place but clean. No TV and no amenity fir coffee tea etc. Windows really need washing cause you cannot see thru them. Reception ok. Every thing is kind of average. Breakfast is ok but way to many people at the same place. Fir simple single night it ha good.

This hotel is right in downtown Toronto with great accessibility to different locations and public transportation. The room is clean with the basics like A/C, comfy beds, free WiFi and bathroom, but no TV which is OK to me. Breakfast buffet is included with room stay which is good for the value.

First the good things: yes, it's inexpensive. The location is awesome, right behind City Hall and the marvelous Nathan Phillips Square, mere steps from the Eaton Centre, and just around the corner both from cheap but decent eateries and the hospital zone, within very easy walking distance of the Art Gallery, public transit, etc. The staff are pleasant and helpful... The Good: Perfect location in downtown Toronto. Price was unbeatable (I don't think you can find anything else comparable at such a low price in downtown Toronto). Breakfast was pretty good and a big bonus is that it's served till quite late (until 10:30am, which means you can actually sleep in and not miss breakfast!). Room was quite spacious. Water... More

Stayed here for 4 nights for work to attend a conference downstairs. What a hole! Let me break it down for you. My room looked alright when I first entered. It had a bed (moderately comfy), a desk, a wardrobe, a phone, and a broken lamp which wouldn't turn on unless I held the switch. No clock (my colleague's room... More

Chestnut was a really nice stay for the low pricing. It was a quick walk to the center of downtown Toronto and they had great amenities, like free breakfast buffet for each day of your stay and free wifi. The breakfast was really good, and had lots of variety! Since it is used as a dorm during the months of... More

This property was once a hotel, but don't be fooled -- it's now a university residence, so don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. The rooms are a reasonable size, but no tv, flat-pack furniture, and ancient towels. My bathroom had mould, rust and rotten wood from the humidity. The windows don't open, and my a/c wasn't working --... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
