Best location, good breakfasts, nice, friendly staff/owners - what more can you ask for? We had a room overlooking the enclosed courtyard - a nice, comfortable room. However, the first day we found a hair on the bedsheet and saw a bug crossing the floor. Probably for monetary reasons, the owners do not have a cleaning staff anymore, preferring to...

Great place to stay to stroll Old Montreal. Felt like we could have been in Europe. Choose your room carefully as the building is old and there isn't an elevator and ceilings can be low. Claude the owner was quite helpful in dining recommendations.

Despite the road construction all around Montreal, we enjoyed a great stay at the Auberge Bonsecours. It was centrally located in Old Montreal and allowed us to explore on foot and via Metro for 3 days. Breakfast was nice and the room, though small, had everything we needed.

Hotel is very small and the room we had was head bangingly small. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was decent. There was construction on the street the hotel was in and, all in all, we were a little disappointed.

we came into town at the last minute, and managed to find a room here and were glad that we did. Our room was not too fancy but it was comfortable and the air worked good for us. I think we had room #2 at the top of the stairs. It only had a small tv but it worked and...

Situated on the oldest street in Montreal, this little inn is steps away from all the action at the old port and the pedestrian restaurant areas. Once we had navigated the ridiculous construction that was frustrating and confusing, we entered a room under the drastically sloping roof. With that and the exposed brick and the fascinating artwork, the Auberge Bonsecours...

I was in Old Montreal for a night and decided to stay here as it had great reviews for a mid-range hotel in an excellent location. It was right in the mix of Old Montreal, and I walked down for dinner and a drink no problem, and walked back feeling safe and relaxed. I stayed in the double room with...

We had a lovely stay here. The decor is charming, and our host was attentive without being intrusive. The breakfast was very good as well, warm croissants and great coffee. Also right in the heart of Old Montreal, just right for walking. It was just minutes from Cirque du Soleil, great restaurants and sightseeing. We had a lovely time here...

Room had everything we needed and the location was excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good choice at breakfast. Our room was very hot and we had to leave the window open. Thursday night was nice but Friday there was a huge party at the hostel next door and the restaurant on the other side recycled their bottles at 3am...

The Auberge is set back from the street through an archway. Look for the red and gilt sign on rue Bonsecours opposite the domed market building . It is quiet , rooms are generous, views are a mix of historic skyline and hidden courtyard. It offers a thoroughly pleasant informal stay. The scale and atmosphere is domestic , though it...

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Right across the street from the famed Bonsecours Market, Auberge Bonsecours is the perfect base from which to set out on your exploration of the city and environs. Housed in a formerly abandoned horse stable which has been completely renovated, and featuring a charming courtyard garden bursting with flowers, this inn offers plenty of charm and comfort. There are seven rooms, each with its own distinct décor. The rooms on the topmost floor, under the roof, are particularly striking with their angled ceilings. The old stone and woodwork blend in perfectly with a vividly coloured Provence-inspired décor scheme. ... more   less
