Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My boyfriend and I were due to travel to Spain, however due to the lockdown restrictions we had to improvise and travel to locations within the UK. From our whole week, we both agreed that the Cumbrian Lodge was our nicest stay. Driving into the car park we were kindly welcomed by the owner Paul. He walked us to our room, explained the room and all of it's facilities (heating, then an extra plug-in radiator, lots of closet space) and said if we needed any help we could go to them or use the contact information provided in the guest book in our room.

The room was stunning, very clean and big enough for us to keep our many bags. The bathroom also very clean had a shower and provided towels.

I especially liked the small touches such as a shower cap and many options of hot drinks and biscuits next to the kettle.

Paul explained to us that there was a Co-op, Chinese, Pizza shop close and then many pubs for food and drink close by. Everything we needed was in reach.

On our first day in Seascale we visited Wast Water . It was absolutely beautiful and very relaxing to walk around. I would definitely return just for that view alone. Very tired after the walk we almost fell into the bed (very comfy). On the second day we had our breakfast around 8:30am. Angela the other owner served us. She was also very welcoming and kind. The food was delicious and we had no complaints. Another close place to visit was the beach on the front and then after that we went to Scafell Pike (stunning views).

All over great location and stay. We had a lovely, relaxing time.

Hosts/owners, Angela & Paul are welcoming, helpful and friendly. Exceptional husband and wife team dedicated to ensuring guest experience is enjoyable.
Chef does an excellent job putting together tasty and beautifully presented dishes in the restaurant. Cheesecake is supreme.
Breakfasts are wonderful and cooked to order.
All food is locally sourced.
The hotel and rooms, newly refurbished, are spotless, beautifully decorated and comfy with attention to detail. Plenty of storage space in rooms.
Tea/coffee facilities in room with an excellent array of tea/coffee and biscuits.
When my car broke down, Angela and Paul went out of their way to offer help and support even offering lifts if required.
All staff are attentive and friendly.
I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.
Close to a local station, many places of interest are accessible.
Lovely walks available along the sea front offering beautiful views of the Cumbrian shore line.
Location within easy reach of many of the lakes by car as well as some spectacular waterfalls and walks.
The locality has many beautiful places to eat that can be easily reached by car in the surrounding villages if not dining at the Lodge which appears to be the only in dining venue in Seascale.
Thanks for an outstanding experience, Angela and Paul. I have never stayed at any accommodation where the experience has been so personalised.

Visited with family and my little one. Booked for food and drinks.
The tapas or small plate menu looked great so we all went for three each. The food was very well presented and everything tasted simply divine. The service was also impeccable. We would definitely return and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for one night when we needed accommodation at short notice, having added on extra day on to our Lakes itinerary.
Our room was fairly compact but comfortable enough.
Proprietress very friendly and welcoming
Restaurant offered a reasonable choice although some of the menu options were not available the evening we were there. However my wife thoroughly enjoyed her lamb dish. I opted for the pescatarian menu and as the anchovies weren’t available I tried the intriguing cockle popcorns - enjoyable but not really many of these little shellfish.
Tasty breakfast to see us on our way for remainder of our Lakes trip.

We spent 2 nights here. Owners Angela and Paul were very welcoming and always in evidence to help in any way they could. On arrival Paul immediately helped with our bags to the room. The hotel is immaculate and the grounds stunning and quite a little micro climate offering protection from any wind. A very pleasant place to sip a gin and tonic or beer!
The rooms are compact but well laid out offering all that you need for a short stay. Coffee, a variety of teas and chocolate are in the room along with nice biscuits. All the rooms have showers which we prefer. The water was always hot with good quality towels. We ate at the hotel both nights of our stay and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were all very pleasant and worked hard. Overall a very positive experience and good value for money.

Sadly, in this pretty and quiet village, Seascale has little offer to those seeking a decent meal. In fact as far as I could establish, there are only a couple of restaurants in the whole place, bar takeaway that is.

Of these there is only Cumbrian Lodge to consider as it’s completion is a very lacklustre establishment.

The meals at Cumbrian Lodge are very tasty and the portions are generous to say the least. The menu is comfortably small whilst offering a good variety of cuisines.

The restaurant is modern with clean lines and attractively decorated.

Outside, there is a lovely spacious ‘beer garden’ which is beautifully landscaped.

Owner Paul and team provide a warm welcome to their customers.

If you’re looking to eat in Seascale, you won’t find a better place than this.

Started off well and prompt with a large selection of drinks and gins, however that was were the positives ended. We were confused by the menu, with having a list of small plates and stakes with some specials including fish and chips and steak pie. The fish and chips were undercooked and soggy, and the steak pie was hard with a thick lump of pastry. I had a collection of small plates which were underwhelming and my stuffed peppers appeared to be shop brought. We addressed the waitress and she tried to assure us that the pastry was meant to be that thick (you couldn't cut through it). We went for puddings and the pavlova was delicious, however the treacle tart was tiny and obviously brought in from TESCO, and the sticky toffee pudding was grainy which confused us. Overall, I am not one to write reviews, but our experience was less than pleasant and will not be going there again.

Hi Emily, thank you for your review. Clearly we are disappointed by the points you have raised. I would be grateful if you could contact me as I am sure that we will be able to put things right. In the meantime, I would just like to clarify that all of our meals are homemade including the desserts. I can confirm that none of our dishes are pre prepared or bought from Tesco. I look forward to hearing from you. Paul

The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Beautiful location and staff were very friendly. The food was the best in Seascale and the portions were a great size. WiFi and television worked without any trouble. I highly recommend for kids and adults alike.

Recently reopened under new management and a very welcome addition to the locality.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. The menu was varied and had some items not often seen these days. The service was efficient and the food was excellent. We had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely be booking again.

Tried Cumbria Lodge for my wife's Birthday Dinner tonight and the experience was first class. Greeted well and made welcolme. Food was lovely...my wife had mussels and myself chicken stips with a barbeque sauce. Both faultless. For our mains had trio of lamb chops. Again delightful. The whole meal very reasonably priced and would highly recommend. Will visit again soon. (As an addendum..the waiting staff were courteous and polite)...Thank you Paul and Angela for a lovely evening. Chris and Dianna Gibson
