Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean, bright and comfortable room. Hot fresh delicious breakfast. Welcoming, friendly and accommodating hosts and great staff. We loved our stay and would highly recommend. This truly is a gem. Close to the beach and easy parking. Not one negative thing to say. It was a pleasure.

Stayed one night , last minute booking due to work appointment & I will certainly stay again when in the area. The hosts Paul & Angela were warm and friendly throughout, Room was clean , well appointed, quiet and did the job perfectly. A very minor gripe was the bed was a tad firm for me but I get that this is very much a matter of personal taste . And so to breakfast…..and what a breakfast ! Freshly made to order, Piping hot, fine ingredients and plenty of it too ! One of the best breakfast I’ve had , and I’ve had a few In my time . I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. .

We arrived to find no food being served though we had an e mail from them stating food and drink served 5pm to 7 pm. Had to go into gosforth to find a pub. Hotel clean and very adequate though the mattress is shot in room 1. Also it’s a bog std small room . Breakfast was good and hot. Good parking . Neither of us slept well because of the mattress which isn’t intended to be taken personal but constructively .

Recently stayed three nights at the B&B, the hosts Angela and Paul really could not do enough to make myself and my daughter welcome. Upon arrival there was a children’s pack, fruit shoots and goodies which my daughter loved! The bedroom was clean, comfortable and spacious. The showers are powerful and the bed although hard at first to sit on, was one of thecomfiest and best nights sleep ever. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, with cereals, fruit and juices on offer too. The location is brilliant, 10 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute drive into the village of Gosforth with pubs, restaurants and shops. The hosts are knowledgeable of the area and suggested places of interest to us. All in all a fabulous stay and we will certainly be back.

A perfect getaway - it’s such a lovely, friendly place. The hosts Paul & Angela are so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are immaculate & the breakfast’s are amazing! Perfect location for visiting stunning lakes & scenic locations , Scafelll Pike nearby & the beach. Absolutely one of the best places I’ve stayed & will definitely be recommending it & returning for another visit.

Stayed one night before cycling the coast to coast route. The Cumbrian Lodge is located perfectly for the start of this. More importantly, Paul was a great and welcoming host. Happy to accommodate our late arrival, early start and bike storage. Thanks for stress free start to this epic day, Paul.

Visited with family and my little one. Booked for food and drinks. The tapas or small plate menu looked great so we all went for three each. The food was very well presented and everything tasted simply divine. The service was also impeccable. We would definitely return and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Started off well and prompt with a large selection of drinks and gins, however that was were the positives ended. We were confused by the menu, with having a list of small plates and stakes with some specials including fish and chips and steak pie. The fish and chips were undercooked and soggy, and the steak pie was hard with a thick lump of pastry. I had a collection of small plates which were underwhelming and my stuffed peppers appeared to be shop brought. We addressed the waitress and she tried to assure us that the pastry was meant to be that thick (you couldn't cut through it). We went for puddings and the pavlova was delicious, however the treacle tart was tiny and obviously brought in from TESCO, and the sticky toffee pudding was grainy which confused us. Overall, I am not one to write reviews, but our experience was less than pleasant and will not be going there again.

Response from Paul Evans, Owner at Cumbrian Lodge Seascale

Hi Emily, thank you for your review. Clearly we are disappointed by the points you have raised. I would be grateful if you could contact me as I am sure that we will be able to put things right. In the meantime, I would just like to clarify that all of our meals are homemade including the desserts. I can confirm that none of our dishes are pre prepared or bought from Tesco. I look forward to hearing from you. Paul

Stayed here for one night when we needed accommodation at short notice, having added on extra day on to our Lakes itinerary. Our room was fairly compact but comfortable enough. Proprietress very friendly and welcoming Restaurant offered a reasonable choice although some of the menu options were not available the evening we were there. However my wife thoroughly enjoyed her lamb dish. I opted for the pescatarian menu and as the anchovies weren’t available I tried the intriguing cockle popcorns - enjoyable but not really many of these little shellfish. Tasty breakfast to see us on our way for remainder of our Lakes trip.
